Engineering undergraduates study old theories from Way past generation, that is of little relevance to modern engineering. The university system teach so many calculation, and almost nothing on how to apply these mathematics to solve real life problems.

Many of theories learned aren't useless jargon, since we arent taught how to praticalise most of those knowledge, 99.99% of all engineering graduate would have forgotten what they learned by the time they graduate.
We only remember what is useful to us, what help us get through, or things we do constantly. Everything else, our brain trashes it.

Its quiet disturbing Most of the engineering student only read to pass. Which makes one question, are we in school only to pass some paper? If so, modern technology would not have existed at all.
Our primary purpose of studying engineering is to apply scientific discoveries to solve practical problems in the society. But unfortunately the system only made us to study only for grade.
Without practicing what we learn our brain will eventually discard everything as useless

An average engineering graduate does not remember 90% of what he learned in five years, I tried to go through some of my jottings from 300l, i was suprised because it all seem strange to me.. i couldn't remember a thing from the calculations l did with my own hand. A friend of my who have have a very much good grade have the same experience.

Apart from the abstractions of studying engineering in nigeria, most of the curriculum is old, we spent so much time studying theories that should be thought as a mere history. No wonder there havent been any groundbreaking engineering achievement from Nigerian universities

Majority of the engineering jobs that involve applying engineering maneuver will be given to foreigners. Innoson motor employs foreigners to do All of its engineering design, our Nigerian graduate work as if they are

Engineering graduate will never apply most of the theories they learn at school. lot of our graduate who are lucky to find job in engineering companies work as a maintenance engineer. Whenever they need new designs or innovation, they hire foreigners to do the job, this is quite sad in my opinion. They have made mockery of 5 years of lifes. Quite sad

It a very big scam the country it self is not even ready for enginee, our university have no facilities to teach engineering .....I have a diploma in engineering and up till now I can not even figure what I gain in school because they was no practical to what we where be thought in school ...the people I pity most are mechanical engineering student because Nigerian are not ready for one single engineering course talkless of mechanical eng. For me am going to computer science I can't come and waist my time again the only way I can study engineering is when I have the chance to school outside of this country

Thats why you have internships or IT. The University would only teach you theories, yes theories because theories are the foundations of problem solving. If you want practicals apply for internships or volunteer to learn some technical skills. If you want to know the significance of these theories watch youtube videos or learn matlab where you can visualize models. If you want to know the way theories are transfered to practical use then am sorry because most technologies are designed either in china or usa or germany.

The worst scam is banking and finance.

The fact that I am getting enough likes says a lot, I wonder why in some jobs only engineers are allowed to apply, only people with law degrees are allowed to be lawyers, only people who read medicine are allowed to be medical doctors and lawyers.

But come to the bank engineer is working as banker, even medical doctors, even psychology. Then what's the use of the banking degree. I find this totally unacceptable.

you would need those thories someday. No knowledge is a waste. Talking of design, we see Nigerians who design cars but no encouragement to develop it further. Even here on nairaland we see people even mocking them, would Asians mock their brothers who are trying to engineer creative products? My argument is to defend the universities who you seem to blame for not doing enough but you forget that this is a problem of failure in leadership. The Asians who are designing the cars by innoson were living in the dark after the second world war. They understudied the americans, were able to learn technology and replicate same. Look at Innoson, can he send Nigerians to China to understudy and learn how to design cars? Of course he won't. He only cares about money and fame. So don't blame the universities but blame the political class.

The knowledge we get from electrical engineering is very practical, the problem is that you can't see materials to work with in making designs that will make you innovative as those in the western world (I made a foot detector foot match immediately I graduated, it was not pleasing to the yes,no material to work with no machinery for finishing),
In engineering you are supposed to be taught the basic principles and you as an engineer will think on what to invent with it,
Engineering is not meant to copy, as an average Nigerian engineer want it to be,
They prefer you teach then how the I iPhone X max was design and let them make it, rather than learn how telephone, integrated circutry, displays, cells,and design, allong with order basic needed knowledge,
That was why one richdad ask me to go and make robot rather than learning about circle, when the robot become faulty I will be lost in the ocean.
I don't see Nigeria improving in technology soon.

(1) the supposed theorem we don't even understand it in in-depth

Sorry, you didn't read the OP. How is he lazy? He didn’t say he depends on the system. He said that the engineering curriculum is outdated and devoid of the expertise need to strive in the modern world, it's all theory with no practical and lecturers are not updating themselves. These ought not be in any university but if op is serious about engineering and have money, he can go elsewhere to study.

Three, four or five years of university engineering study at undergraduate level is built on the studies of heat transfer and thermodynamics. Every other subject is a derivative of those.

Where the problem lies in Nigeria's specific case are the embedded silly art subjects like Use of English and Philosophy of God's existence (jokes on COREN).

What could have been used in keeping the lads more in Thermo and Engineering Analysis classes, they spend with children of Karl Marx.

And by the way, you will never make sense of engineering until you graduate and start practicing... And that applies to everyone, irrespective of where you studied.

So my take is for the curriculum to be re-jigged to allow
more study of core engineering pricincples. They are theories. Yes, they are supposed to be so. Get grounded in the theories of Lagrange and Echelons, you will find them handy if you ever find yourself in a career involving engineering simulations.

Me n you dey the same boat, I started coding immediately I graduated, I regretted ever studying electrical electronics engineering, such a waste of time, planning on how to further in computer science related course.

Studying in Nigeria and completely relying on your lecturers, laboratories, etc, is deluding yourself.
Going outside the box in every course is the way to go.
I know graduates of Engineering in Nigeria who are currently working at NASA, Washington D.C. Two brothers from a University in Northern Nigeria.
Anywhere in the world, if you ONLY rely on what you are being taught, you'll probably end up being mediocre. The world is fiercely competitive. If you go outside the box, you wouldn't. The average Nigerian student is extremely lazy. He/she goes on the internet to chat and engage in other frivolities. It is the same internet that gives the hard-working ambitious student, Edx and Coursera free courses, which this hard-working student takes and improves his knowledge of data science and analysis to complement the theories he learns in school.

The ambitious student does not have two heads. The lazy student easily latches onto an excuse, such as describing his/her course of study in Nigeria as a "scam". No sir/ma. It isn't. You are the lazy, scamming student.
