A monster? Yes.
A formidable warrior and master planner in his youth? Definitely.
Tywin is a legend. . .he rebuilt the Lannister name.
The only wrong he did I can't forgive was how he treated Tyrion.

Someone finally sees what I mean. Respect, sister.

Guys, listen: Come the story, comes the man. Yes, I do not deny that Jon Snow is the best to follow with comic of the Night King. But if we are talking "rulership", not even Ned Stark holds a candle to the great Tywin.

All his strategic brilliance can't make up for being killed by his own son while sitting on a privy.

There is a difference between a wight and a white walker. The magic was against white walkers
If we're to go by your logic, then it's faltered, who created the wights in the first place, it was the Night king, and the magick of the Night king controls the wights too.

but it has been explained earlier, that the magick of the Night king extends beyond the wall.

Jon Snow? Not me. Jon Snow inspires loyalty, no doubt, but so did Robb Stark - even grandfathers seasoned in war and lordship followed the Young Wolf. And what did he do? Let his honour and emotions take over his head. Exactly same as Jon Snow.

I will rather have a mixture of Tywin Lannister and Ned Stark. At least Ned's only weakness was his honour, he never let his emotions overrule his reasoning.

Ned could have been the obvious choice but he lost his head in season 1. Most people didn’t get to know him very well or his honor.

Tywin was basically the most astute person on the show. I scratched my head when Arya made that her "smartest ever" comment cos she has met the man.
He returned pride to their family name and always protected their interests. ("The Lion does not concern itself with the opinion of the sheep"wink I remember how he blocked the Tyrell plan to rule the North. Who do you think backed the Boltons and Freys in their coup against the Dumb Wolf?
The only ish was his hatred for his dwarf son. That proved to be his undoing. In the books, it's implied Tyrion is a Targ bastard of the Mad King.
Completing the top four cleverest for me are Tyrion, Baelish and Olenna.

Charles Dance played the Tywin character to a T.

Game of Thrones season 8, episode 3:

SPOILER grin grin

Daenerys KILLED by Arya after devastating Sansa death.

GAME OF THRONES season eight, episode three will no doubt see several devastating deaths and one of them could be Sansa Stark who is hiding in the crypts of Winterfell hoping to survive the Night King’s attack. Could her death lead to Daenerys Targaryen’s demise in a very unexpected twist?
By HELEN KELLY

Game of Thrones season eight, episode one titled Winterfell saw Daenerys Targaryen (played by Emilia Clarke) arrive in the North alongside Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and she didn’t receive the warmest welcome from Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner).

It seemed as though the pair may strike up a friendship in episode two but those hopes were dashed when Sansa quizzed the Mother of Dragons about her plans for the North when she became Queen of Westeros.

Daenerys seems intent on ruling all of the Seven Kingdoms, despite Sansa pointing out the North had their land stolen before and have reclaimed it.

Sansa is wary of Daenerys and her plans for Westeros and will no doubt confide in her sister Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) about her fears for the North and also their brother Jon.

Ned with his honour was naive,
He found out about the Lannisters incest and acted impulsively to blow the whistle and expel them. A family that is the richest with many loyalists
Baelish told him that this is the Capital and we are all liars here. Instead of him to relax and plan his strategy properly, he went fully to declare war and lost his head

Robb was naive and foolish, the most foolish man in the show. The Lannisters were killing his family but he couldn't touch the Lannisters. He even beheaded Karstark for striking 2 Lannister boys. Robb also reneged on a promise to marry Frey's daughter.
He deserved to die

There is nothing admirable about Tywin, rather a hypocrite, He blasted Tyrion for whoremonging and desecrating the palace with whores, and the first chance he got was to take the same LovePeddler for himself.
He was there watching the Joffrey misrule and did nothing about it, He was watching how Joffrey treated the Starks and said nothing
He knew Tyrion did not kill Joffrey but went ahead to try and sentence him. Tyrion was the one who saved Kings Landing from Stannis but Tywin took the glory
He was able to strategize his family into power because many of the other family leaders were not interested. Ned was never interested in ruling, Robert Baratheon though king will rather be elsewhere fvcking, hunting pigs and drinking wine, Balon Greyjoy was content in his island, Lady Arryn wanted to be left alone after her husband died

Ned Stark would die ten times in eleven different instances in Kings Landing (in that one exception, he's sent to the Wall). His type wasn't made for politics. Same as Jon Snow.

Lord Tywin kept Joffery in check. Or where you expecting him to murder that mad boy? Tyrion failed to do that when Tywin made him acting Hand.

He saw Joffery's death as a pretext to get rid of Tyrion. Even Cersei knew the truth, but the opportunity was to good to pass up.

About the glory hunting part, no. The Lannisters would still have lost if Tywin and the Tyrells didn't come to the rescue. Remember when Cersei tried to kill Tommen and herself when she thought they lost?
True, Tyrion helped but so did Tywin and the Tyrells.

True, Tyrion helped but so did Tywin and the Tyrells.

How much in check did he keep Joffrey? Did that stop Joffrey from humiliating Sansa and Tyrion in his presence? When Joffrey was running wild on his name day, was Tywin not just looking on?

He was there while Joffrey turned Tyrion a Lannister into his plaything at his nameday celebration, brought out a crew of dwarfs to mock his uncle, ordered Tyrion to wear costumes and join them, told Tyrion to become his wine carrier, even when Tyrion wanted to leave, he told him to stay. What was the head of the Lannister family doing? Sitting there watching as his own son was getting humiliated, Olenna and every adult there expected Tywin to act but he didn't, Majorie the queen tried to distract by cutting cake.
Then to sentence his own son to death for a crime he did not commit and he knew as well

When the mountain was sacking villages and raiding them before they came to report to Ned, what was Tywin doing? Turning the blind eye.
Let us not forget Tywin ordering the Mountain to kill and slice into half Elia Martell

That battle Tyrion was the most important man, If Tyrion did not act, Stannis wll sack the city before Tywin came to take the glory

So what was actually admirable about Tywin? Who watched tyranny of Joffrey and did nothing, Sentenced his own son to death for an offence he knew nothing about, hijacked his sons LovePeddler, the same thing he condemned him for, ordered the assassination of Elia Martel

You're basically butressing what I've said before. Tywin didn't care about Tyrion so Joffery taunting him does not count as much. If that was Jaime or Lord Kevan's son it would have been different.

Can you name one excess from Joffery that happened after Tywin came to KL that does not involve Tyrion?
In case you didn't notice, nobody likes Tyrion. Not the the elites, not the masses. Some feel pity but nobody likes him. So I don't know who you expected to interfere. Proof? Remember that "Demon Monkey" speech in the streets or that Braavosi play Arya witnessed. It's we fans that like him(I should be like number one on that list).

About the death of Elia Martell and her kids, Tywin did the necessary evil. He underestimated the brutality of the Mountain (I think he admitted that)

About pillaging the Riverlands, that was solely on Catelyn's head. How do you hold Tyrion prisoner without proof? But yeah, Tywin took things too far.

How was Tywin a hypocrite?

He once told his son that “when soldiers lack discipline, the fault lies with their lord commander” . But when his men went wayward and raping women about, he blamed the death and rape of Rhaegar’s wife and children on everyone but himself

Ordered the specific execution of Rhaegar’s children;
Orders the murder of two babies at the hands of two brutes but has the nerve to act shocked by the manner in which it was done. He tries to act like their mother, Elia never even crossed his mind- crown princess, a princess of Dorne- like she wouldn't obviously BE WITH her infant children in the place they were held hostage. Balks at the notion of ordering her rape... to the son whose lover he had raped by half his guardsmen, before making him rape her himself (this part wasnt in the show but it was referenced).

He orchestrated the red wedding and at the end tried to blame Frey and excuse himself from it.

This was the conversation between him and Tyrion.

“Was it a soft silk pillow that slew Robb Stark?”
“It was to be an arrow, at Edmure Tully’s wedding feast. The boy was too wary in the field. He kept his men in good order, and surrounded himself with outriders and bodyguards.”
“So Lord Walder slew him under his own roof, at his own table?” Tyrion made a fist. “What of Lady Catelyn?”
“Slain as well, I’d say. A pair of wolfskins. Frey had intended to keep her captive, but perhaps something went awry.”
“So much for guest right.”
“The blood is on Walder Frey’s hands, not mine.

The guy blamed everyone else but himself. That's hypocrisy.

I like Tywinn he definitely knows how to carry himself, very calculative as well (has his own flaws as we all do),....but he was always loyal to his family legacy. One of My favorite Tywinn scene was when he came to the throne room with a white horse to pass a message to Jeoffery (He and Tyrion were the only one not scared of Jeoffery).

Rallying a Dornish Rebellion not reason enough?
If she survived, it would have been she and Oberyn rousing the Dornish against the wishes of the Dornish Prince. Rather than Oberyn alone.

They would in turn rally behind the Beggar King, Viserys III. Any discontented House joins too. What does that spell for King Bobby B and his Lannister Alliance?
