The way we treat health workers is so undeserving of them after trying their best to help save lives.

Imagine going through med school for 8 years only to be paid peanut (#70,000) in a place like Abuja and somebody said he is rude.
please, what kind of system are we running in this country that we pay those undeserving of what they get and pay less to those who deserve to get more.

Until most if rise up to condemn this we will not go anywhere.

To me, 100,000 is not bad for a start, but 70,000 can't really push even a stingy person through out a month in a place like Abuja.

He should have accepted it for a start. Work diligently for three months and look for something better. Approach the CMD for a raise and if he doesn't agree, he can resign. Some relationships are not meant to be destroyed.

I accepted a salary of 615 k once even if it was low and unacceptable by my standard. I did it as a sacrifice for three months and also out of loyalty to the person. I switched to something that pays 808 k now after taxes.

When you are just starting, chase experience. Later when you have it, money would chase you.

70k is too small for a medical doctor.... No no no no!!!
Do you know how much fund and time he put in before becoming what he is now...... But this is a two way round stuff. If the hospital in question is still a virgin hospital that just started and is at the verge of stabilization the guy needs to consider that and help move the hospital to a higher height and then in subsequently his salary will be increased, but this should be solely based on mutual agreement.

This is why bills are high in hospitals when doctors demand for high salaries, if you talk they'll say they paid school fees in med school. Did government not subsidize your school fees, how much do you think it costs to graduate from the same med school abroad?

I don't think you fully understand what it takes to read medicine in school and to start up with something as low as 70,000 .
This is about saving lives not a bank job.

The comparison you are bringing are way different.

I guess this job of yours should be in a oil and gas company (because they are the ones who pay this high) not medicine.

If it were a village I would accept the pay to some degree, but in Abuja were items are at cut-throat price?
Please, check am out na bros.

Most of them are simply hired killers, they don't even know what they're doing. Many enter med school because their aim is to become rich, but people who have real empathy for human being are few among them, it's better to seek herbal medicine than to fall into the mercy of these people, that's why people turn to God for help instead. They are very arrogant, their mistakes have cost many innocent lives, may God help us. I wish we can develope our own medicine like Chinese people.

This is not about the way health worker treat patient it is about what a person deserve to be paid, but we all exhibit bad attitude in every sector.
However, I am not making excuses for health workers though.

Still not getting what you are saying.
The man in question asked for an increase in salary which is commensurate with his profession and you are going back and forth about "treating patients " and "working capacity. "

Or you forgot this was in a private hospital not government owned hospital.

Anywhere doctors find themselves they deserved to paid well until they prove to be incapable in their duty.
I don't judge a group of people based on what some bad elements do, because if we were to do that we will condemn all professions.

That's a give, but not in a place like Abuja where things are costly.

The reality is that most doctors in private hospitals earn between 70 ~ 110k in the first 5 years of practice pre specialization in Nigeria.

Really? Where did u get that rubbish stats? U r still leaving in the mud

From a logical standpoint, I never understand why people compare salaries in Nigeria to those abroad. Firstly Nigeria is a 3rd world developing country. Secondly, one should be looking at the Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) of the wage, what can you buy with 70k in Nigeria compared to e.g. 500,000k in Canada. Anyway, regardless 70k is far too low.

You are the first person to make a comment with sense in it on this post.
60 -70% of people posting are unemployed.
80-90% of the remaining are not earning up to N70k per month.
People like to talk big but their realities are very different.

It is very lucrative to be unemployed than receive 70k salary in a big city like abuja where inflation rate is very high.. U will end up working and living in debt. As a newly graduated doctor not yet inducted im receiving 30k/wk i.e 120k/month in a rural hospital where food are cheap and d mds are persuading me to continue working for sometime.. God know that after my nysc the least salary i can manage is 210k..
