I think the problem is that it was too simplistic & unexpected, for a character we've all been anticipating since Season 1. I mean, the first scene , as in the very first scene of GOT was about the Night King/white walkers. So it's only normal for people to feel disappointed if a long-term emotional investment doesn't pay off at the end.

The disappoinment is normal. Disappoinment also means you admit something is good. Afterall I can never be disappointed by Nollywood.

If even GRRM himself can be disappointed with these people he works with, how much more the viewers? It is said that GRRM is yet to recover from the disappoinment of the producers refusing to reincarnate Catelyn Stark as Lady Stone-heart ---- a cold-hearted woman who never spoke cos her throat was slit in her past life, determined to track down and kill everyone associated with the Red wedding. I haven't read the books yet though but heard she reincarnated there.

As for we viewers, we were expecting an epic finale kind of.

Maybe a catastrophic mixture of Jon, Brienne, Tormund, Berric, Grey-worm, Clegane & Arya all fighting the Night King at once. That would have been glorious!!!

Then just when the Night King thinks he's defeated them all, Arya from nowhere descends on him like a falcon and kills him just how she did it.

Yea something like that.

the night king's death was anything but simple, most terrible of villains tend to die by simple things they didn't give thought to OR viewed as significant, Voldemort died from the cascade effect from the powerful magic in self sacrifice engendered by love, sauron's downfall came from the machinations of a middle earth third age council whose weapon was a mere hobbit the assumedly most insignificant of creatures, the night king's death came from a sleight of hand by a foe whose surprise attack he had already stopped. That was the only possible way for him to have been bested IMO, only the simplest of deaths could have done for him, remember, the best magic most times is simply a well executed trick. (can't remember which wizard rule that is anymore )

Prophesies are tricky things. They don't always happen the way we expect it to. Yeah Jon had a big role to play in the Night King's death, but I think he already played that role.

He lead the widlings the other side of the wall. He united the north after Rob. He convinced Dany to fight the dead. If he hadn't done all those things, I don't think the living would have had a chance. He played his part.

He doesn't have to plunge his sword into someone's heart to play his part.

according to the sword of truth series, prophecies aren't meant to be taken literally or misinterpretations will be engendered and the balance and counter to prophecy is free will! If you hear prophecy and act to fulfill it you would most likely fail it, only in free will can prophecy be fulfilled in its true meaning not in the misinterpreted understanding of it of different people in different contexts, anyway this is a different series but I would like to believe same framework exists in this series too

Throwing a bow with a supernatural strength doesn't still prove that one is good on a one on one battle.. In such battles, skills always defeat strength.. The NK major strong hold that the movies have shown us times without numbers is his ability to control zombies and raise up dead to do the fighting for him

They just don't want to kill this character (or just yet). It would be more reasonable seeing him running scared in the hall and digging up courage to kill some of them. But in it thick of the battle defending the castle is a sudden, unexplained remake of the character.


Forget the height, the dwarf surviving the onslaught of the withings would have been more believable. . Atleast he fought a battle before.

.... I don't blame the writers though, they can't tie the laces of GRRM, who has been unable to finish the book. Since it became those two, the writings has been sub standard but that's not what makes me mad, it's rather the people who defend such terrible writing even with insults. Completely ridiculous.

As per your first question You think it's easy to sneak past wights? the build up to killing the NK was what was shown in the library when Arya was silently moving between the shelves dead silent. and regarding the noise she made when she leaped, it was the feeling of courage and getting pumped up to kill the NK.

Your second question, go and re-watch that scene, how else do you expect the NK to hold onto Arya? one hand on the neck and the other held the hand with the knife, reason why she dropped the knife to the other hand and stabbed his chest.

And saying it's lazy writing stabbing the NK in the chest, remember bran knows how he was created, and there's a reason and purpose he gave Arya the dagger, and to actually kill someone quickly, aim for the heart, and an assassins intuition led her to stabbing the heart. or probably bran told her.


Don't find loopholes where there's none, there's a reason it's called a fantasy series.

She didn't have to transform into any Wight.. The NK isn't that strong on one on one battle.. She got thru with the help of Jon Snow.. Someone mentioned it on Twitter and it's beginning to make sense.. The NK positioned the dead dragon at the entrance of the garden where Theon was keep Bram to stop any human from coming close.. That was why the dragon kept spitting fire uncontrollably to stop anyone from coming close to the entrance.. JON Snow had to sacrifice himself to distract the dragon.. The moment he did that Arya ran passed and as soon as she passed the general swiftly like the assassin she was, the sense a wind blew pass but none of them spotted her until she made a move for the NK

The unsullied are a traditional phalanx legion, same type Alexander of Macedonia conquered the world with in a few years, in a chess board your phalanx would be your queen, deadly attack, compact defense, in the annals of the show, a smaller unsullied army mauled into submission a massive dotharaki army at qohor! If the unsullied were not the untypical (fearless) phalanx they were protecting the retreat into the castle, if they were any other typical westerosi or essosian army, nobody would have been able to retreat behind the wall as they would have been swarmed and swamped at first charge
