CO:good morning
Me:good morning
Who is filing for u
My fiance
Do u have kids for him
Yes I do
How many
Two,a girl and a boy
How did u meet
How many times have u meet
Have u ever been married b4
Have he ever been married b4
Does he have any children outside
Has he paid ur dowry
Do u have pictures of each time he came home
Pictures of ur fiancé,you n the kids
Pictures of him and the kids during his stay in Nigeria
Did u meet while he was on vacation or b4 he came to the us
What year did u meet him n what year did he get his visa to the US
I have some pictures here with me can u identify dem
(The CO gave me some pictures)
What prove do u have that the kids are yours
I told her the birth cert which I showed her again n she was like why wait till a year after to get the birth cert
N I told her that was wen I had time to(at this moment I was scared)
She asked for other proof like their immunization or birth notifications n I told her I didn’t knw I have to bring that along
She asked of the birth notification n at this point I was just blabbing can’t even remember wat I said
She jotted sometins down n asked me to submit my kids original immunization copy
I explained to her I can only get her a re-write copy of the immunization record cos the other one got spoilt wt water n she asked how come n I explained to her(she cancelled it n asked me to submit an I-134 form filled by the spouse of the joint sponsor n our passports to an address written on the paper given to me (I guess this was because the tax record include her name too, both the husband n the wife file their tax together)
That all I can remember for now.

@sisiorente, I am very sorry to hear about your experience. May it be just a delay!

I have general question please. Does it indicate anything if after the interview, the VO request for a document and return the passport back with a comment that she was doing so because she doesn't know when the requested document will be submitted?

Send the requested documents via dhl with the passport back. Once they request for additional documents, they give you your passport back to send with the requssted documents.

You'll be denied if you mention it during your interview. You can't be married and yet seek to get fiance visa at the same time, they will deny you and advice you go the spousal visa route.

Bro, do I need to book a date for the medicals or just straight walk in?

You can even get there by 6:00am and write your name with the security guys. They attend to people on a first come first serve basis.

Divorce paper for traditional wedding is gottem from Customary Courts. Divorce paper for others is from a competent High Court. Ask a lawyer for confirmation.

Good morning,so this is my first time here and I have a couple of questions tho my petition is yet to be approved,my fiancée filed in March
1. How long should I be looking at for the approval of the petition.
2. Are there any process to speed up approval
3.i saw a thing about some people who had traditional marriage been refused,in my own case,we just had a traditional engagement and she even put evidences of payment to the vendors for the engagement in the petition.does this mean that it may not be approved or even if it’s approved, can it jeopardize my chances of getting a visa?

Nothing to be done to speed the process. Just wait for it to be approved. Regarding the traditional engagement, you can explain, legitbachelor will explain more on that.

1. How long should I be looking at for the approval of the petition.
It takes an average of 5 to 7 months.

2. Are there any process to speed up approval
Yes there is an option to expedite the process. The request to expedite the process should be based on at least one of the following:

a) Severe financial loss to person
b) Emergency situation
c) Humanitarian reasons
d) USCIS error or
e) Compelling interest of USCIS.

Note however that they hardly grant expedition request

3.i saw a thing about some people who had traditional marriage been refused,in my own case,we just had a traditional engagement and she even put evidences of payment to the vendors for the engagement in the petition.does this mean that it may not be approved or even if it’s approved, can it jeopardize my chances of getting a visa?
If brideprice was paid then it's considered marriage. Based on the rule of reciprocity, whatever is considered marriage here in Nigeria is considered as marriage by the US. The USCIS guys might approve it because they don't know our customs but the US Embassy guys might have issues with it and might recommend spousal visa. So if the traditional engagement is not actually considered as marriage by your customs and traditions then be prepared to prove it during the interview. Best of luck.

Lol. I'm just helping the much I can. This is my little way of giving back to the forum. I have really gained a lot of info here.

I'm good man. Things are going slowly but surely. Will be so grateful if I can get my work permit asap.

My humble advice is that you guys meet at least twice within two years. The rule says at least once but its safer to do twice. This is because of the thorough scrutiny embassies in places like Nigeria and other high fraud countries give to K1 Visa applications.

Hello innken,

Yes, you must have at least met your Fiance/Fiancee once. This will definitely prove that you both have an ongoing relationship. If there is the opportunity, you can even meet more than one time.

And yes, some people have been approved for the K-1 Visa, with just one visit between each other.

Also make sure you take pictures together as well (before you file your petition & send with other docs).

Cheers!

It’s like the COs in the embassy have been changed. The questions being asked at the embassy from what I can see here look a lot more technical/harder than what I experienced on my own interview day.

Simple advice guys, ask a lot of questions before your interview date(that’s why LegitBachelor in his wisdom created this group so that those who have gone through the process can advise/assist in any way those who are yet to), prepare well (carry every evidence you have concerning the interview process. There is nothing worse than being asked for evidence and you answer by saying it isn’t in your possession. It will put you off straight), be confident and pray.

Drenimarcus I hope you are ready? Lol. Wish you success.

I was denied.
Had my interview yesterday but it was denied.
I have been married before at d Local Govt Registry but I did not get a Divorce Decree from high court. I only presented a divorce document from the local govt. I didn't know I had to go to the high court to get a divorce decree. Apart from that, all my documents were complete. If I had said I did traditional marriage, I would have scale through. Knowledge is power.
No question is too small to ask. Always ask question for clarity sake.
The CO said my only option is to get married here after getting d necessary document. And then file for a CR1.
My Fiancée is going to talk to a lawyer about it.
I'm really devastated right now.

I want to specifically thank legitbachelor for all your spontaneous responses and everyone here on this platform for all your support advice and feedbacks.

I seem to be d old one. I take a brown. Love you all

Sorry about the denial. Please advise your fiancé to visit you, get married and file for the CR1 asap.
