Venerable612: Some will applaud the bold. Truth be told, a country will not solve her national problems by way of short cuts. Be it the curriculum are not 21st Century like, it still doesn't solve anything meaningful. Let's see if those with HND in engineering will go and tell NSE/Coren to register them as Engineers. |

[quote author=MrMash post=78398840]But in all sincerity both are not same. [/quote My brother I beg to disagree with you. I was privy to an aptitude test conducted by a reputable company. From the first position to the 8th were hnd holders, the 9th and 10th positions were "your" BSc holders. |

Olulinks: I never said one was inferior . But you know in your heart which is better . Ogbeni I work with this ur HND graduates everyday. They are hardworking no doubt, but if it takes them 30 minutes to solve a problem , na 3 minutes I go take solve am. There was a time Polythecnic graduates were given opportunity to write same Dragnet exam as University graduates for a job opening . Guess what!! Nobody scored up to 18 Make we dey sabi our mate. MrMash:In that case the HND should be abolish altogether and an appropriate degree programme created to take care of practical skill oriented courses to sort out the inferiority/superiority problem cause by the HND/Bsc dichotomy instead of continuing with a system that results to others to be seen as inferior all the time,as a matter of fact the polytechnics has been phased out in many countries n we should do same here. |

kittykollinxx:Bla bla bla... As a HND and a BSc graduate, I can tell that your thoughts are wrong. So you think Polytechnics don't understand theories and its applications. Using Yaba College of Technology as a case study, the students of Art & Design, and Engineering has done what your lecturers in the so-called universities have no idea of |

Deepthoughts: One of the characteristics of skilled craftsmen is that they dont read to digest. Dont take everything hook , line and sinker . Go through the news again . It is limited to paramilitary!!! even a Secondary school drop out can fit into the role. I think the solution you all want is for all polythecnics to be converted to Universities. Make government kuku abolish polythecnics . Throughout your stay in your "amazing" Polythecnic . How many of your courses were taken by a Dr? How many of your Courses were taken by a Prof ? Foreign Prof ? ; 1 Like |

MrMash:A company I worked with has a partnership with YABATECH to employ some of their best students. This is due to the fact that their graduates are amongst the best workforce in the country and out there. So, coming out to talk about some dull graduates who wouldn't have been better in a University system is uncalled for. I have met several University graduates who can't make use of Microsoft word talk more of passing Dragnet exams which isn't difficult by the way. 2 Likes |

kittykollinxx: True, but the Nigerian wages system put one far above the other, hence the industrial crisis it has generated. BTW, you're the only one so far, who has put forward a sound argument devoid of sentiments on this topic... I respond to only intellects. |

nurex01: they re not the same, hnd holders suffer from poor diction, poor spelling and grammar. cant see things conceptually, but they re good in technical matters, no country can progress without technicians if all institutions become varsities who will repair our machines, build houses , is it the philipinos, Indians or chinkos? |

This is tailored to favor the Northerners. They have the highest polytechnic graduates. And this dichotomy has kind of stalled their career progression in these paramilitary organizations. Don't also forget that the Northerners have the highest numbers in these paramilitary institutions. Talking about equality, the universities and polytechnics are not on the same pedestal. This is because almost all the best students from the best secondary schools across Nigeria are more likely to end up in the universities. Again, between the two, which system gets better attention from the government in terms of funding? We know that in Nigeria, a system most patronized by the elite is given priority attention. That is why when Nigerian universities are on strike, the "whole" nation is aware. |

Re: FG Approves Abolition Of HND/BSC Dichotomy by laprince(m): 8:56am On May 15, 2019 |
kittykollinxx: The dichotomy is harmful to the Nigerian system setup. Universities are not just for theories, they also should do practicals too. Back in Nigeria, I had HND, it hindered all my dreams and even made it virtually impossible to further academics within and outside Nigeria. When it comes to writing, its a very different thing; its based on individuals. I have written for publication before, even when I had just HND. Simply put, the dichotomy ruins people's psyche. |

kittykollinxx: As much as I understand and respect ur view, A technologist should not be under advantage. Before u can produce any machine, be rest assure that the design and operational theory of such machine or device is understood by same. If u don't know how it works you can, produce but not assemble. So technologlist understand, the design, production and the operational principle. I will liken technologist to pharmacist who makes the drug, know the component of a drug, the dosage, effect while Engineers as a Doctor who only prescribe and takes the glory 1 Like |

kittykollinxx: And the university graduate needs all the practicals that an explain all the theories. In the same way "Action speaks louder than words" university degree is the word Polytechnic diploma is the action. I would only argue that both are good in their won way and none is better than the other |
