Hello Gurus in the house. I need a scrutiny on my proposed transcript. My interview is this Friday 17th of May.

vo: what are you going to do in the US.

me: I'm going for a PhD program in Physics, with specialization in condensed matter physics.

vo: why did you choose US

me: US is a superpower. the research facilities available are world class. The highest powered magnetic laboratory in the world is in FSU where I'll be studying.

vo (cuts in) so why Florida State university.

me: As I've said earlier, there is the presence of the national high magnetic field laboratory which is the highest powered lab in the world. The research work of Dr xxxxx who will
be supervising me was a huge deciding factor for me because it matches my research interest. he is working on the fabrication of nanomaterials with improved optoelectronic, biological, and chemical properties suitable for use in solar energy harvesting and LEDs.

vo: how many other schools did you apply to?

me: 7

vo: how many gave you admission.

me: 2 though another 2 are yet to respond.

vo: who will be sponsoring you.

me: I have an assistantship and a deans scholarship that covers my tuition and stipends.

vo: what qualified you for that?

me: the strength of my application did. I graduated with a first class for my Bsc and also a distinction grade for my Msc. my robust teaching experience with students ranging from secondary school to university students is also a factor that was considered.

vo: what are your plans after graduation

me: I intend come back to my alma mata to pick up a lecturing appointment. I was appointed a Tutorial assistant there during my masters program and it will be a delight to be back there.

vo: Are you married.

me: yes with a baby.

vo: so why are you not going with them.

me: our baby is just 7 months old, and the change in environment, particularly weather condition, may likely tell so much on him, and I don't want to take that risk.

vo: I will be approving your visa. pick your passport in the address circled (hands over the white paper) in 3 working days time.

me: thanks so much.

Please I need scrutiny. I actually envisage a short interview.

My I-20 was generated the same day my school confirmed my source of finance
Time2win:

I know. What you said is not the reality though about NIU. I20 processing may take up to 21days but that's not the actual time it takes most times. I have processed i20 for my friend there and it took just 10days.

... I'm going for a PhD degree in Physics at Florida State University, Tallahassee (maybe you can then mention your area of interest)

... "US is a superpower"(sounds kinda vague sha)... maybe "Schools in the US are top class and well equipped with world class research facilities that will afford me the opportunity of carrying out excellent research or you can add that a degree is the US has an international recognition"... "The highest powered magnetic laboratory in the world is in FSU where I'll be studying." (if you'll be mentioning this at all, state how it affects your study there, I think)
... As per why Florida, the first statement doesn't really address the question; make your reason research based, or program based and if possible state how this research is unique... I chose FSU because I am interested in the research of Dr XYZ on this. The research is unique as it deals with the abc'ing of xyz using efg.... (I think you get the idea)

.... you can add, How did you know about the school? What will this degree do for you ? and What will you be doing as a Research Assistant ?

I hope this helps. smiley

There is no difference in your input from what this man posted. You are still saying the same thing with his response . If you ask me I will say his responses to those questions are very okay and intelligent. They are very short and on point. Am very sure he knows how respond to other addendum questions maybe that's why he didn't include them. So save yourself from stress.

vo: how did you know about the school

me: I got to know about the school searching the website gradschoolshopper.com which lists schools offering degrees in the physical and earth sciences. I also usnews.com and the carnegie classification of schools which rated FSU an institution with a very high research activity

vo: what will the degree do for you.

me: The degree will be an access for me into research and development (R&grin) which is the missing link in Nigeria between universities and industries. I'll be able to join in finding solutions to the power problem in Nigeria and other African countries through our works on Photovoltaics for solar power generation.

vo: what will you be doing as a teaching/research assistant

My Interview on Monday for F1 visa in Lagos - Master program

Me. Good Morning

VO: Good Morning, pass me you I-20 and passport

VO: Why do you want to study Master in IT?

ME. Because IT rules the world and in line with my Bachelor Degree in Germany

VO. Why did you choose the University?

Me. The university is the leader in SAP graduate studies and prides itself as the North American leader in SAP certification. Graduates from this University are more SAP certified than the 3 highest Universities in US combined together.

Vo. I can see you have a valid b1/b2 visiting visa to the US, issued in January 2018 and you did not travel. Why?

Me. Then I was writing my bachelor thesis in Germany and wanted to visit for a conference in Texas as part of my research for the thesis but my thesis supervisor fixed a date that clashed with the date of the conference so there was no need to travel to US again.

Vo. I can see you are married

Me. Yes with 2 kids

Vo. Are you traveling with your family?

Me. No, am traveling alone

Vo. Who is sponsoring you

Me. Am sponsoring myself, I have a registered business doing well which is into logistics and road transportation and ticketing which I have employees working for me and also I am a share holder in a company in Nigeria which is into oil and gas where I receive income (profit shared) yearly as share holder of that company.

VO. Can I see your bank statement?

Me. Yes that’s my bank statement

Vo. Took time to check pages of the bank statement and I pointed out to him to check page 35 and see I receive money too as share holder of a company.

VO: what is your plan after studies?

ME. I plan to return back home to take up a job in SAP which I will be concentrating on in my studies. SAP skilled worker are lacking seriously in Nigeria as this is a new trending and disruptive IT technology in vogue and in high demand by almost all companies and getting those certified in this specialization are highly sought after here in my country.

VO: Your visa has been approved. He passed me the white paper indicating where to pick up my visa in 3 working days.

It was God
I was not asked too many questions or questions like why US, how many Universities did you apply to, did you write any standardized test e.t.c because I actually wrote IELTS and applied to 3 schools but I wasn't asked.
