I'm afraid that you would need root. From what I know, I don't think there is a way to circumvent the process.
Reason: Dolby Atmos requires integration with your Android System to make desired effects. It's like substituting your default sound equaliser/enhancer with another one. Some people have claimed to install just the Dolby Atmos app (apk) and recorded success even though they had issues with the app not starting after every reboot.

My side, I tried just the app without root and guess what? It didn't work on my former note 4 pro. I had to flash it via TWRP.

There are guides though on the net with all sorts of captions but the most effective installation method is through root.
Installing the app is way different from flashing the file.. Tried both on my previous device...damn i miss dolby atmos....

Anyhoo..i'll manage default souns...don't want to root my device...

You might explore this:
Not sure if it would work on the S4.

Background: Dolby Atmos does not require root to function normally as it's already integrated to be part of system root. And of course, this is achieved by flashing the corresponding .zip package.

Proposition: Flash Dolby using TWRP

Challenge: TWRP can't be retained (usually the TWRP is automatically replaced by stock recovery at boot whenever there is no SU binary) without unlocked bootloader and root. However, there is a way to temporarily boot into TWRP using ADB command on window of (Tried this on a Leagoo Kiica power to temporarily use TWRP and format system partition)

Methods/Guides to executing Proposition
Step 1: Download the Dolby Atmos flashable zip and copy to a folder of your choice on the phone .

Step 2: Get Miracle Box and do a ROM dump suitable for flashing incase something goes wrong, you'll be able to flash the phone with your dumped stock ROM

Step 3: Set up ADB on laptop and install necessary drivers (check Google for help on this)

Step 4: Go online and download the exact TWRP for your phone (note the build number as this is important)

Step5: Now enable USB debugging and also make sure that your bootloader is already unlocked. ( If you have not unlocked your bootloader, you should otherwise ADB can't push TWRP to your recovery partition. Also do backup of your apps and files as your phone might be formatted in the process of unlocking. Happened on Leagoo m8 pro).

Step 6: Now copy the downloaded TWRP (in step 4) to your ADB and fastboot folder on your laptop.

Step 7: Connect your phone to your laptop while still on then use ADB command to boot it into fastboot mode.

Step 8: While in fastboot mode, flash the recovery.img (TWRP) and use same fastboot environment to boot the device into recovery. If all goes well, you will be treated to a nice looking intetface- TWRP .

Step 9: Go to install and select your Dolby flashable zip file and flash. You can now reboot. Remember that after boot, your phone automatically and silently installs the stock recovery. So if you'd want to boot into recovery again, you should be ready to see your stock recovery.

Suppose you flashed (SuperSU.zip) in step 8 then your TWRP will be retained after reboot.

Step 10: Setup Dolby and enjoy! grin

Disclaimer: Disclaimers often sound scary no matter how grammatically structured its written. But don't worry as long as you know what you're doing, you should be fine as the responsibilities and potential consequences are entirely yours , not mine. grin

I didn't detail most of those steps because I believe you know what to do there but you can ask me questions on any of those steps.

You can port it anyway. Porting TWRP for most phones is now easier than ever

A friend of mine paid me a visit yesterday, turns out he was using Infinix S4. Mhen, it was like I was seeing the pphone for the first time.

Infinix has done a really nice job on this machine in terms of look and performance but sincerely i feel that notch is unnecessary. The phone is almost 'bezeless' grin

The device is sleek and beautiful IMO and i like the water drop notch compared to the regular ones...only problem is its limited
My selfie camera is great
Problem is am still looking for way to restrict certain apps from using network even if i open them..e.g boom player....once i open it...it starts using my network in downloading and searching for stuffs i don't need...other apps too......You know how to go about this

Yeah you're kind of right though about the notch. The water-droplet style is way better than the bar like ones. Most of those bar notches are just taking useful screen space

lol.. Truth is you know that you made the wrong choice... My problem however is that he keeps reminding you of your bad choice in your thread! Lastly, don't buy any phone with the consciousness of you fixing it. I bought the tecno cx then, my cousin bought the rn5. I told her about the whole carlcare stuff.. Her boyfriend however insisted since he was the one buying it.. Long story short her rn5 is still there running on pie with no issues whatsoever while I sold my cx because of too much issues and it's stuck on nougat

Thank you for this ......That guy's ludicrous tantrums is just amusing....we actually get his point....and aren't fully inept tho...believe me i wanted to go for lenovo K5 pro...(bad ass specs...4 gig ram, 64 gig rom, 4050 mah sd 636.etc for about 55k at the time) but that phone is not even in Nigeria....wanted to go for Xiaomi, but no official store here until recently....The non availability of spare parts is one glaring inevitable truth and problem this brands face whether one likes it or not...i can't travel all the way from Delta to Lagos to have my phone repaired in advent of any fault., nor can i start using aliexpress to order spare parts...so i chose a brand that is tweakable anytime anyday...hence i went for infinix S4

That phooey with his ludicrous tantrums, rants and delusions still thinks it's out of ignorance i did it angry
He's still going out of his way to infer that other brands are perfect...100% angry

That's true, i have used 3 different sony Xperia, and never had cause to look for repairer. My problem started tecno and ended with Infinix. To me its a business, transsion makes poor quality tecno, Infinix and itel phones so that carlcare and the individuals (like the ones on this thread) will make some money repairing them. Brands that don't have repair shops/centers are usually stronger and are of better quality than the ones with spare part dealers

Very true.... Since I stopped using tecno and Infinix phones 3 years ago, I have never had issues with any other brand... They last very long and are way more durable... Tecno and Infinix are using carlcare scam to fool people tbvh... To prove this, check out Xiaomi thread and see for urself... it's by far the biggest phone thread on Nairaland, and it's all thanks to it's superiority over this shitty tecno and Infinix brands

Yes you have said it all, xiaomi thread does not have a single complain, even noobody, semtu and many others selling xiaomi all have their threads growing fast with people happy with their choices, but see tecno Infinix threads na so so complain, even Infinix xclub self is full of complain and instead of coming up with a fix the phones are just abandoned
