There's one thing I can agree totally with you.
Akwa Ibom has the best road network in the country; though they find it very difficult to keep their roads clean

Insecurity alone has disqualify Rivers State.... Rivers of blood and home of thugs.

Don't deceive yourself or others. Akwa Ibom doesn't have it all and still has a very long way to go to compete with lagos in terms of infrastructure, economy, jobs.

However, negatively, Akwa Ibom is fast competing with lagos in areas of overcrowding, traffic jams, street hawkers taking over roads around plaza, Ikot Ekpene, Abak, Oron and Aka Road, poor housing and light supply etc.

The only reason akwa ibom has not taken over shitty eco is because of shallow and petty politics. Akpabio wanted to start of seaport but Jonathan lost. So That Seaport Never Saw The Light Of day. Even as apapa is managing conjestion. Greedy Yoloba bleeps dont share well.

Now dangote is building refinery in the same eco. But Lagos don't have a dime oil. Yet they are hosting such huge platform to the detriment of akwa ibom the highest oil producing state.

This is why they wanted a hard line bubu to consolidate on the post civil war aliance between yoloba and hanusa. How they do what they want now.

My problem with most Nlders is that they're not properly informed on what constitutes development and unfortunately categorically make misguided statements on the topic. A proper infrastructure which goes beyond some roads in the capital city and main areas of other towns (which some erroneously call cities), investment into human resources development and lower taxes will propel the state to move above Rivers state.

In summary, Akwa Ibom has the potentials to surpass Rivers due to it being more safer and her residents non-bellicose nature. Unfortunately, I don't see this happening in this administration which prefers to plunder scarce funds on what doesn't constitute as developmental initiatives.
Re: Is akwa ibom becoming the new capital of Niger delta region? by Abogwara: 9:26pm On Jun 07, 2019
Based on your pictures there hasn't been much development in Akwaibom aside roads. There isn't complimentary private sector investment in real estate, hospitality and manufacturing industry. Government owned ones are bound to fail in the long run.

It's a pity that Akpabio failed to implement policies that would have enticed lots of investment,. both local and foreign.

He should have set up an EPZ or an industrial estate with it's own independent 24 hour supply.

All one has to do is take a look at how an EPZ changed the fortunes of Mauritius which has a population of less than 2million.

I wont live in Rivers for a 1 million dollars.

Kidnapping HQ of FRN.

Akwa Ibom is still calmer and more serene.

What does serenity have to do with this. If you're talking about Akwa Ibom overtaking Rivers in relevance, then you better be talking economic opportunities. Insecurity is a result of multiple issues which can be addressed with serious political will. Eg It took Amaechi less than 6months to reduce drastically militancy and kidnapping during his tenure.

Rivers state has atleast 25-30yrs headstart over Aks and will always be head and shoulder over Akwa Ibom. Anyone who is realistic will admit to this.

Even akwa ibom is under achieving for its wealth. Their leadership is still average to me.

Akwa ibom, Delta, Rivers, Abia.

If I handle any of these sleeping states, you wouldn't believe your eyes.

They have enough resources for me to work with.

the question then becomes

will you ALLOWED to work?

That is the thing

Rivers start from where with federal influences? It should be on record that akwa Ibom is the only state that build itself from scratch.

After being blocked, mocked and jettisoned for so many years, the state is now able to compete with others..

It doesn't necessarily mean so. Standard of living is going down, poor residential and sanitary environment. More traffic, low living wage, poor electricity, traffic jams, Keke, road sellers, mini bus taking over the road. Besides, more than 90% of the so-called revenue generated is and will be swallowed by politicians without any real benefit to the citizens
For the same akwaibom wey I dey?. grin

Some people eh.. More traffic in which state?? Traffic in akwa ibom? Keke, road sellers, mini bus taking over which road??.. grin grin

I am working in Rivers and doing my masters program in Akwa Ibom. Theres is no need to compare the two because in the next 1m years Rivers will be ahead

But the write up seems to cause disharmony between the two states who are doing wonderfully well in terms of infrastructures

Governor Wike spent more than two months commissioning projects in 2018 ; which state of the federation did that ?

Rivers has 11 flyover Bridges while Akwa Ibom has only 4. Governor Wike has announced the construction of extra 3 flyovers

The Whole of Uyo is like ONELGA in Rivers

The one inch of the state Uyo, is not even as developed as Ikeja, Ikorodu, not to talk of Lekki and the rest. look a local government in Lagos, Rivers , Anambra or Ogun is more industrialized than the whole of Akwaibom. The capital of south south region still remains Port Harcourt.

This comparison is not necessary. Rivers is ahead of us. but my state is moving small small. please dont bring bad blood among us. we Niger Deltans are not competing with ourselves.

Development has two major components:
(1)Human Resource Development and
(2) Industrialization /infrastructure.

The above two factors determines other key economic yardsticks like GDP, and Unemployment Rate.

Akwaibom is growing but yet to develop.
It will still take reasonable years for Akwaibom to edge out the Garden City.

more population of people flooding into the state equal to more revenue for the government.

In the next 20 years of things keep going good for the state, I believe it will surpass Lagos state
