Please for those who recently traveled to USA on the F-1 Visa, are we allowed to travel with a one way ticket? Or would this cause a problem at the point of entry?

** before someone comes and swallow me here, I'll post my transcript after I receive my Visa. My application is still under AP at the moment.

They clarify the school funding too.
So no worries your status will change to issued soon .

The devil is not responsible for the lax attitude of Nigerians to accountability. Most don’t realize that both the I-20 and DS-160 forms are legally binding documents... how do you justify telling the school that you have one sponsor then walk to the visa interview claiming someone else is now sponsoring you and expect to be taken seriously?
I understand you mentioning me for my figurative use of the "devil", I understand you probably don't understand my writing pattern or the Nigerian slang "don't allow the devil to use you". I am totally fine with that, I respect it. You don't live here so you probably don't get it.
However, the other sentences shouldn't be directed at me, I believe we are on thesame side, with respect to the question asked. Please avoid me sir.

A big shout out to Lagosismyhome, Fairheart and the rest of the guys that are dedicated to this thread.

Visa approved. Abuja

Me: Good morning!
VO: Good morning, your passport and I-20
(passed it)
VO: Have you ever traveled out of the country?
Me: Yes
VO: Which countries?
Me: A few countries in Europe and Africa (didn't say this. I just named them)
VO: Are you married?
Me: No
VO: What do you want to do with the degree?
Me: I intend to use the specialised skills that I'd acquire in organic synthesis to explore local plants with pharmaceutical (nodding) and cosmetic potential here in Nigeria where it is in abundance. (not as fluent as written but she got the point) I also wo.. (interrupts and passes white paper and explained when I'd get my passport back)

** I must admit, reading through this thread made me take my whole life's documents along. Birth certificate, bank statements, sponsor's letter of consent, waec, neco, nysc, association membership card, nepa bill, police clearance, estate levy etc cheesy cheesy except my GTB receipt. Well, better over-prepared than not at all.

Travel history and funding might have played a role for me but one thing I understood well and is the essence of the interview is that it is a non-immigrant visa application and everyone is presumed an immigrant until one proves otherwise at the interview. The DS-160 form is the other part, very important.

I prepared by anticipating a lot of questions that may arise from my submitted DS form, information on I-20, and my program...under the theme of "PROVE NON-IMMIGRANT INTENT" as the VOs on suspiscion of immigrant intent are by law, bound to reject such application.

Good luck to other hopefuls and those on AP.

It would be good practice to use an inverted pyramid approach in answering questions, sort of the style they use in writing newspapers where the all you need to know in an article is in the first paragraph. The interview is short, barely over 5 minutes and everyone gets interrupted at some point. so better to eliminate all the wordiness and go straight to the point. To the pith and core of the matter.

Good luck again. See you in Stockholm at this year's Nobel's.

Congratulations Cap

Good morning everyone. A friend just told me about this page. My visa was denied yesterday at the consulate in lagos. This was my transcript

Me: good morning
VO: pass me your passport and document. Why did you choose your school.
Me: I chose it because it is accredited by the project management institute global accreditation centre for project management and also offers it under the department of tech and construction management and because I studied Building tech as an undergraduate, it was essential I continued in the same path.
VO: when did you graduate
Me: I graduated in 2016
VO: from which school
Me: the university of lagos
VO: did you take the GRE
Me: yes I did (she looked at me like I should day my score) I had 309 in my GRE and 105 in my TOEFL. (I didn’t mention my school didn’t require toefl, just the GRE)
VO: so what have you been doing since you graduated
Me: I worked with the state ministry of works and housing for a while where I discovered there is increasing need for qualified project managers because a lot projects functionally fail at their delivery dates, I proceeded to work for my former lecturer who is a consultant for various construction companies, going to sites with him and applying PM tools and techniques. Currently I work at a bank headquarters in the project management services department, evacuating the performance risks of various companies who come for loans or extensions on their loans to execute their projects.
VO: who is your sponsor
Me: my elder sister
VO: what does she do
Me: she’s supplies oil and gas to companies as a marketer for nnpc. (Forgot to mention she also manages our mums properties where we collect rent including one hospital)
Vo: pass me her bank statement . (Then she typed for a long time). Has she ever travelled before?
Me: no she hasn’t. (She has a Schengen visa she never used though I didn’t mention that, and she was denied a Canadian visa earlier this year but I don’t know how the VO will connect me to that)
Vo:are you married or single
Me:I’m not married.
Vo: I’m sorry I won’t be approving your visa, though I feel you’ll be qualified at a later time.
Me: thank you. (Then I left).

It was the last at window 7 who nods a lot. I don’t know what the next step should be, though I’m thinking to sending an email to my school to keep them updated of this hitch. The total cost was about 8 million and I had a bank statement of 17 million. I need advice please. Thank you.
you were good to go what failed you was are you married question.

My friend... Lols grin! I know wetin you mean but it might not be as you think sha.

I think we should avoid unnecessary distractions and help ourselves achieve our dreams in every little way we can using this forum. My desire and goal for being here is to bring light, enlightenment, assistance, encouragement, and invigoration of hope in everyone my words are able to reach. Life is very, very short to be hard on another human being.

May I share that there are students here with highly complicated admission and visa cases than we have openly seen. They wants someone who will listen and empathize and guide them. I'm starting to imagine who these guys and ladies will will talk with if everyone here is Hitler.

Sorry, I just felt like sharing this under your comment.

Sincerely, if you’ve truly been a silent reader of this thread, you’d know the right answer to your question.

Anyway, if you have your i20 already, there is no better time than now. You should be fast about it;Dates are filling up quickly like I’ve been told.

Thank you for replying my message sir.
Here is my proposed transcript, your contributions and advice would highly be appreciated sir.

Proposed transcript

Me: Good morning

Vo: Good morning, pass me your passport and I20

Vo: why are you going to the US?

Me: I'm going to the US to obtain my masters degree in Computer Information System and Business Analytics at West Texas A&M University.

Vo: why US? Why not do it in Nigeria

Me: currently, only about 4 universities in Nigeria offer a masters degree in Computer Information Systems and Business Analytics, and of all the schools offering the course, none has a well structured curriculum that aligns with my research interest. Also, a masters degree from the US is well respected and highly ranked in Nigeria as it’s a known fact that the US has some of the best research based institutions in the world.

Vo: why this course?

Me: Nigeria is currently being faced with the challenges of ghost workers in its civil service. This is as a result of lack of proper model that can efficiently manage, analyze and save the data of the workforce. This course will equip me with the needed skills to develop models that can help solve this problem. I also aim to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of my organization with the acquired knowledge especially in the aspect of data analytics, computer and data mining, business integration and cyber security.

VO: where do you work?

Me: I work at my dad's company at bleep. We carry out consultancy services to both the private and public sectors. We help in recruitment services, advisory services, training and development, business analysis, marketing, market trends analysis, turn around business, registration of company etc. I currently occupy the position of Assistant Head of Business Analysis & Development Dept.

VO: Why WTAMU?

ME: I am excited at the prospect of joining the research team of Dr Jeffry Babb on an ongoing research that correlates with my research interest and particular to my country. The research is on the challenges of data insecurity and its effect on the economy of selected west African countries (Nigeria inclusive). I have spoken with Dr. Babb a couple of times about the research and also made suggestions on the research which prompted his willingness to have me as a member of his research team. I look forward to that experience.
The school has also awarded me a Scholarship which qualifies me for an instate tuition rather than the international tuition, this has made my tuition much more affordable for my sponsor. Lastly, the curriculum of the school aligns perfectly with my research goal and interest.

VO: how did you hear about the school?

ME: I first heard about the school on Linkedin through an article by Dr Jeffrey Babb on Information System Security management. His discussions and findings caught my interest so i discussed it with a colleague of mine at work (Mr Adewale) who happened to be an alumnus of the school and also a former student of Dr Babb. Mr Adewale told me about the quality faculty the school posses and how research oriented they are. I was impressed with all he said so i made further findings of my own about the school. Using USNEWS.com and Google.com, i found out about the small classes of the school as well as its vision and mission which is focused on making the school a diverse and student centric community of learners.

VO: tell me about your research interest

ME: my research interest is focused on Business integration and Data security. This deals with the reflection of how I.T is being absorbed as a function of business. It has to do with the synchronisation of Information Technology and Business Cultures as well as the alignment of technology with business strategy and goals and the security of such.

VO: who is paying for this and what does he do?

ME: my dad. He is a successful businessman, he owns 3companies, 2 in lagos and 1 in Oyo state. He’s also into real estate, he buys develop and sells landed properties.

VO: Did you write any standardized text?

ME: Yes, i wrote the GRE. Scored 290

VO: what is your plan after graduation?

ME: I plan to immediately return home and to my dad's company to utilize the knowledge and skills acquired to further develop the company. I aim to continue to work closely with my dad to build the company to a global standard and also contribute our quota to a more developed and cyber secured Nigeria.

Gurus in the house, please help vet my transcript
