Good day everyone, I've been a silent follower of this tread for a while now and so far I've only seen science related students getting visa approvals. I'm going for an Mba program with concentration in international business and frankly with the lack of approved business related students I'm somewhat discouraged.. I'd be posting my proposed transcript very soon..thanks to everybody who really put their time in helping others.

Exactly. I think they are sending a message. I have seen like 3 fully funded offer rejected. Whether there is funding or not, one has to be fully prepared.

Lol... no

Usually interviews are very quick. Before you blink finish its over and on to the next person . You won't be given the opportunity to present anything not asked for, definitely not a flow chart . Your best plan is to prepare well how in 1 minute you can articulate very well WITH YOUR MOUTH why you choose the school

Its pretty much unpredictable. For instance, I saw July 25th as earliest date when i was trying to book, I didn't book. I checked again in about 20 hours and saw that the next two days (including first week of June) were available. I then booked. However, you cant say when a date will be available, so follow your good judgement.

From what I’ve read here and on quora.

They get really suspicious of you saying or presenting what is not requested. It’s considered a distraction and as such they’re trained to frown on such.

They’re also very time conscious. So the quicker the better for them.

I’ve never appeared for an interview so you might want to just read my contribution in passing.

Wasn't adequately/sufficiently prepared ... I was unable to put forward a strong case ... Semantics. Emphasis on 'it's my fault not the VO' even when we know that VO sometimes is on a short fuse. How it is said too matters (to which extent, I wouldn't know...most of what I'm saying is just general interview tips)

Personally, I think anyone that doesn't fill the DS form themselves is not serious at all. How can a prospective graduate student pay an agent to fill information about themselves? And this may be apparent to the VO but not the applicant and the others waiting in line. So what the VO sees is different; what the next person in line observes is "everybody before me got coloured paper, even people with funding".

You never really know those on interview day who did or did not fill their DS-160 form or whatever themselves, or accurately so there are rarely any near identical profiles. The interview is just one part, the form goes way before you appear for the interview and I believe many denials are predetermined and the interview is just formality, except the person convinces otherwise.

Nobody should tell anyone what to say in the real sense, a lot of what is on here should serve as guidance. The applicant should know best why they want to go to the US and present their case as best they can and prove home ties because it is a non-immigrant visa.

A case in point here was a person who because he reads many cases here of people applying to more than two universities, misrepresented himself by claiming he applied to other schools when the truth was he applied to just one, and as fate would have it, mentioned that Columbia didn't require standardized exams from him. Imagine standing in front of the VO who has the internet and a computer to verify such outlandish statements. Dude didn't even consider that the interviewer could be an alumnus of the program and university the person is lying about. Or maybe have interviewed a number of students going for that same program at the university.

If you applied to one school only, then convince the VO why you applied to only one school. There are numerous reasons why and if you really want to apply to more than one school, would it be because of the visa interview or because you actually want to study at those other schools?

A lot of people can stand liars, but the ones they despise the most are the ones who lie directly at their faces. Lying is misrepresentation and only makes things more complicated and the visa more elusive.

Ok,got ya point. It is clear that desperation could be what is causing most denials....

VO: when last did you visit the US and for how long
A: last year and for two months
VO: Why did you stay for two months
A: for Christmas and to see sister (me) who had a baby

*tried to give documentation for birth of her niece and the VO pushed it back*

Christmas holidays for students don't last that long. She should've returned earlier perhaps stated she's on a gap year and say something more convincing. And pushing documents to the VO when not asked, shows desperation - it shouldn't apply to her with her history and age but the VO could've been having a bad day - next time she should ask the VO first "I have documents showing the birth of my niece, if you may like to see them"

I think the VO wasn't convinced she is a bonafide student, he thought she was more interested in connecting with you over there than going to school.

I was trying to book in MID-MAY against first week of June. As at Mid-may what was showing as earliest date was June 25th (Sorry not july). I eventually booked 4th June, when the date became available (other early dates in june also became available). I had my interview rescheduled by the embassy to 6th June.
My point is, there is no clear-cut way of knowing which dates will become available. As I said, follow your good judgement.

Check the photo eligibility guidelines. Your photo did not meet one or more of them. Check and upload a new one.

Wait. Where did you see that error message? Us travel docs or DS160 application site??

Please gurus in the house i greet y’all
Here is my proposed transcript.. any help i can get will b welcomed

*** Good morning

CONSULAR: Pass Your Passport and i-20 Please

CONSULAR: Why Are You Going to the US?
ME: I am going to the us to study masters in physics in Texas A and M university

CONSULAR: Why the US?
ME: There is a very high level of teaching and research at US Universities, and I would have immense opportunities to learn from highly qualified professors in the field of physics.
CONSULAR: How Did You Get This School? / How Did You Hear About This School?
ME: I first read about Texas A & M during my search for universities that offers specialised courses in physics on usnews and report. I then came up with 5 schools and later streamlined the list and applied to 3schools which all offered me admission.

CONSULAR: How Many Schools Did You Apply To?
ME: I applied to 3 universities! University of Idaho, Connecticut state university, Texas A and M University,

CONSULAR: What Do All These Schools Have In Common?
ME: They all offer Masters in Physics and I applied to them because I meet the program admission requirement.

CONSULAR: Why Did You Choose this School?
ME: I Choose Texas A & M University because I was awarded a graduate assistantship that covers my entire tuition and fees. More importantly, there is an ongoing research that align with my career interest and essential for professional advancement in the physics sector I hope to work upon my return to Nigeria. The program curriculum structure stands out compare to other schools I applied to. For example, I will be learning about experimental research in solid state physics, x-ray spectroscopy, x-ray photoelectron, auger electron, appearance potential spectroscopy of surfaces, signal analysis of speech signals, microcomputer hardware and software development, and digital electronics. Other schools I applied to do not offer all these courses combined. So getting a degree from this school will not only equip me with the expertise to be highly employable, but will also deepens my technical know-how to work better as a physicist.

CONSULAR: Why Masters in physics)?
ME: Master's in physics are highly paid in this country because it's a rare field that is growing up so fast in this country. I already have a bachelor of science in physics and due to my love and desire to work and advance this field, a master degree in physics will allow me to understand advanced areas of physics that my undergraduate studies did not teach me.

CONSULAR: Tell Me About Your Academic Background?
ME: I studied physics in Delta State University Abraka and graduated in 2015
CONSULAR: what have u been doing since u graduated?
In 2016, i worked as IT at HBB integrated service limited, after which I went for a compulsory NYSC program in 2017.
After my service, i got employed at LEE construction company which is where am working curently

CONSULAR: What are those courses you’ll be taking/ Tell me about your program?
ME: The masters in physics is a 30 credit hour program and I am expected to maintain a 3.0 GPA in order to graduate in 2 years. I will be taking courses such as electricity and magnetism, mathematical physics, quantum mechanics, mathematical physics, quantum mechanics, and I will be carrying out a research at the end of every semester.

CONSULAR: Tell me about your Research?
ME: I will be researching on Organic semiconductor physics, and there is another research called Surface science research. The surface physics in physics laboratory at Texas A & M University -Commerce offers a wide variety of experimental research opportunities including X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and soft x-ray and so on.

CONSULAR: Did You Write Any Standardized Test?
ME: Yes, I wrote the GRE test

CONSULAR: Are you married?
ME: NO

CONSULAR: Have You Travelled Before?
ME: No, had no reason to
CONSULAR: Do u have anybody in the US?
Me: Yes, my elder brother
CONSULAR: whats its status?
Me: pending permanent residence
Consular:Is he married?
Me : yes he is married

CONSULAR: Who Is Paying For This? / Who Is Sponsoring You?
ME: I have a full scholarship and My elder brother here in Nigeria will support
Consular: what does he do?
Me : he works in chevron Nigeria limited as a senior staff
Consular : how many children does he have?
Just 2

CONSULAR: What are your career plans / What is your plan after graduation?
ME: There are many lucrative job opportunities in my field here in Nigeria, I will Return back to Nigeria and use the expertise this degree will equip me with to achieve my utmost career goal which is to become a geophysicist in various oil firms. because I will be highly employable since this is a new field that is not fully explored in this country yet...
CONSULAR: What will this course do for you??
Me: Masters degree in physics will allow me to understand advanced area of physics that my undergraduate studies dis not teach me. And also, it will enable me to possess the knowledge and expertise required to work in various oil firms and industries in nigeria
