tboy47: Are there really only 5 schools in the US that offer specialized courses in Physics according to US News? You need to strengthen your response to 'Why master's in Physics?' What particular job position in Nigeria are you looking forward to obtaining with that degree? The VO is an immigration officer- he would be more interested in you having a solid reason to return to your country with the degree than with you advancing your education in Physics. You also need to make your response to 'Why this school?' more concise, while maintaining or improving it's convincing nature. 4 Likes |

tboy47: Texas A & M is renowned in the world. So I don’t think you would have any stress with the CO. However you answers are neither here or there. They are too general. Your interview is going to be short, so you need to be specific. For example. Why US. You can say US schools is known for quality and that is why chose US education. How did you find out about the School. You were looking at top US universities that specialize in geophysicist since your undergraduate was physics and you were able to zero in on Texas A & M. Since you mention geophysicist, the CO would most likely ask you what the course would do for you. You can now fire that there is a huge deficiency in the amount of geophysicist in Nigeria and most of the seismic evaluations are done by expatriate. And the course would prepare you to participate in the oil field development in your country. That way you have established home ties. You full scholarship is even enough to cover. On your i20 you should notice this. Goodluck |

segunbolawole: No. The CO in Nigeria don’t have your time. They would rather you talk. Don’t say too many story. Go straight. They have 100 more people to interview 1 Like |

Mayflowa: He is going to Tamu commerce, not the Tamu u thinking. He said that late in his transcript. He needs to be specific about the exact school. It's same way I see a lot of people abbreviate the d name of the other schools they applied to. Perhaps they feel the VO knows every one of the over 2k schools in America by heart. |

dumbiri99: I don't know if because it was mentioned that fully funded are getting a smooth interview, they became complacent or whatever. You have zero deficits doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to answer questions. Infact, a friend going to Stanford with Fellowship was drilled for 3 minutes and he had to answer all the questions. Funding or no funding , one must be very apt and spontaneous in response. The VO always has a reason for denial. 2 Likes |

Please gurus in the house kindly review these for me. Am still having issues with why my course of study to Vo the expertise in the house kindly help. Vo. Why student affairs and Educational Justice Me:i am so passionate about student affiars and Educational justice because my experience as an undergraduate brought alot of dilemma and challenges to me and these challenges are but limited to inadequate infrastructure, instructional material, student seminars and institutional framework. And by empirical literature and my experience nigeria universities are characterized with analogue student affairs management, discretionally fixing of lectures and test, uncoordinated Unionism, political interference and other forms of injustices to students And all these challenges negatively influence student comforts and academic performance in Nigeria university. Considering these fact i develop a research interest in student affairs Management and how this factors culminate to injustices as well affecting student performance in Nigeria university. Therefore study student affairs and educational justices in claremount graduate university will allow me to master the art of student management in both pratical and theory term and after earning these degree i will apply the knowledge gain in the management of staff and student affairs to nigeria university and most employed Tertiary staff in nigeria have little or no basic academic skills in student affairs management hence my intention is to build a career in students affairs and educational justices that is lacking in nigeria educational system and these will allow me to design a structure, process and research to ensure student comfort and academic performance. I know is too long pls kindly help.thanks |

Felizz:Your points are everywhere but they are not hitting any particular target. My experience as a undergrad motivated me...., it is less wordy than I am so passionate and more direct. be specific about the experience you had, no need for unnecessary information. A particular challenge you had should start out. Two, what you said about the school is very basic, how will master the act. Be specific, at Claremont, i will learn so, and so. Develop so and so skills Three, which Nigerian University, what unit there, restructuring often comes from top management so your point there doesn't really hold water. It will be better said, on return, i plan to pick up a job in the division of student affairs of my Alma mater and implement so, so and so. All the best |

PLEASE gurus in the house help critique my proposed f-1 visa transcript. My interview is next week. Thanks Me: good morning sir/ma’am VO: good morning, Me: how was your night? VO: fine thank you VO: pass me your passport and I-20? Me: passes it over to her VO: you were denied twice last year, why apply again? Me: yes I was denied F-1 Visa under section 214(b) ... because I could not articulate my study plans well and I was rejected. VO: so tell me your study plans Me: Upon resumption of school, I will register 3 courses with a total of 9 credits hours for both first and second semesters respectively. Thereafter I would work in my research concentration in my second year with focus on AM Technology and Industrial Automation at the Industrial Robotics and Manufacturing Lab to equip me with the technical knowledge and on demand skills which will give me an edge to become a senior industrial production engineer on a managerial level at bleep xxxx or a lecturing job at my Alma Mater the University of Nigeria’s newly established department of Industrial and Production Engineering (though currently awaits full accreditation status from the National Universities Commission, NUC) to help pioneer its eventual take off. I will also write some professional certification courses like the Quality Engineer and Six Sigma Black Belt exams to increase my employability in the job market. VO: What’re the courses you’ll be taking at Morgan State University? Me: I would be required to complete 33 credit hours of course work in 24 months inclusive of 18 credit hours of core courses, 9 credit hours of elective courses, 4 credit hours of research thesis, and 2 credit hours of seminar with core courses such as: Rapid Prototyping I & II, Stochastic Processes, Quality management and statistical process control, Reliability, Non-traditional manufacturing processes, Advanced quantitative methods in systems engineering, Risk assessment and systems reliability, Engineering optimization processes, Assembly automation & product design, Supply chain and logistics management, Engineering design process, Advanced production & operations management, Computer integrated manufacturing, Engineering statistics & modelling, Production sequencing & scheduling, Human performance engineering, Research in design & manufacturing systems, Design simulation VO: Which of the courses is more of interest to you & why? Me: Rapid Prototyping is of more interest to me because it deals with the fundamental concepts in the development of computational algorithms for the design of machine components and assemblies, and other engineering systems. It’s a vital course for AM Tech & Industrial Automation research. VO: can you tell me some of your professors? Me: Dr. Seong Lee is my academic supervisor and would take me on Stochastic Processes, Supply chain and logistics management while Prof. Richard will take me on Rapid Prototyping I & II and Advanced quantitative methods in systems engineering, VO: what has changed from your last application? Me: I got promoted in my place of work with more professional responsibilities and rewarding pay(Makes sense?) PLEASE HELP ME REPHRASE!!! VO: why did you choose the US for your master’s degree program? Me: I chose the United States because they focus much on research especially for my preferred course- 3D Printing Technology and Industrial Automation which is relatively at its infant stage in developing countries like Nigeria. Furthermore, institutions in the US offer students the opportunity to carry out research work with their professors and apply what they’re learning in the classroom in the lab or workshop which will afford me the opportunity to establish myself upon completion of degree. VO: Why are you going to the US? Me: I’m going to the US to obtain my master’s degree in Industrial Engineering at Morgan State University with concentration in Additive Manufacturing, Industrial automation and Cobots. VO: tell me about your research interest? Me: my research interest is focused on AM technology & Industrial Automation which involves the development of complex metal shape parts using 3D Printing and Rapid prototyping. All smart industries of the future have their processes interconnected by the Internet of Things (IOTs) incorporating greater flexibility, and individualization of the manufacturing process but such technology is far from us in this part of the world. VO: what’s your highest degree? Me: my highest degree is Bachelor of Engineering in mechanical engineering obtained from the University of Nigeria VO: when did you graduate? Me: I graduated in the year 2014 VO: and what have you been doing? Me: After my National Youth Service Corps, NYSC in 2016, I started working as a Research Assistant Officer at bleep xxxx in in 2017 where I handle some responsibilities like the Design of mechanical components using AutoCAD, and produce them using Lathe machine. I also assist in organizing seminars and workshops for interns to enable them gain technical skills that will enhance their academics. VO: How long have you been working with them? Me: since 2017, so over 2years now VO: tell me what you know about your course? Me: Industrial engineering is one of the specializations in the field of mechanical engineering that is concerned with the design, analysis, evaluation and optimization of large systems and processes taking into consideration their interaction with machines, materials, and man power. VO: what attempt have you made to tackle any of these problems? Me: I carried out a research with a team on The Impact of 3D Printing Technology to the Nigerian Additive Manufacturing GDP. The study aimed to help engineering teams manage risks and understand the implications of their designs which can dramatically reduce the costs associated with 3D printing technology in the manufacturing sector to grow exponentially because it will reduce time to market and undue waste of resources. VO: did you applied to other schools? Me: yes ma’am VO: name them Me: Cleveland State University (mechanical engineering), and East Tennessee State University (Industrial technology) VO: why Morgan State University? Me:I choose Morgan State University for a good number of reasons which are as follows: First and foremost, I found the research works of Prof. Richard Pitts, a faculty member in the department of Industrial engineering to align with my career goal & research interest. The research work focus on the production of Complex Metal Shape Parts using 3D Printing and Rapid Prototyping and I strongly believe carrying this research work would have significant advantage in my present work at the department of Projects Development Institute of the Fed. Mins of Science & Tech for a paradigm shift from the conventional manufacturing technologies using the application of 3D Printing technology for global competitiveness of industrial process and fast tracking of the manufacturing processes in Nigeria. I’m keen on being part of his research group so I have discussed my interest and he has agreed for me to join his research team come August NOTE: Answer for why no funding? He submitted my research proposal to NASA and he’s waiting for their feedback VO: how did you know this Prof? Me: I found his name online when I was searching for schools that do research in the field of 3D Printing & Industrial Automation and also read some of his published journals. Secondly, my area of research interest has its own well equipped state of the art laboratories dedicated for this research such as the Industrial Robotics and Automated Manufacturing(IRAM) Lab, the Manufacturing Process Lab, the Advanced Mfg. & Design Lab, and the Information and Systems Engineering Lab thus giving me the best in it's high quality industrial driven curricular. Thirdly, I wanted a university that will give me maximum exposure to the applications of advanced technology in the field of Industrial engineering been the only accredited Industrial engineering program in the state of Maryland and has been elevated to tier-2(R2) status with very high research activity based on the Carnegie Classification as well as a faculty affiliated with the world leading research centre known as the NextManufacturing Centre. Fourthly, Morgan State University provided an opportunity to prepare for various industrial professional certification courses like the Supply Chain Professional, Quality Engineer, and Six Sigma Black Belt which is not available in other schools. Finally, the tuition fee is very affordable and I will be studying in an extreme diverse community with great minds from across the world. Also encouraging testimonies from the Alumni network also contributed immensely to my decision making. VO: why Industrial engineering? Me: Industrial Engineers are in very high demand in my country Nigeria due to the rapid industrialization processes and the growing complexities of modern life. Statistics from the Nigeria Industrial Revolution Plan, NIRP indicates that the industrial sector contributes just only 3% to export revenues but accounts for over 58% of imports due to over dependence on oil as the mainstay of our economy. In my country Nigeria, the self acclaimed giant of Africa imports virtually everything including tooth picks, matches and from history, no country have ever become rich by exporting her raw materials without also having an active industrial sector and in modern terms an advanced services sector. I will return back to Nigeria immediately upon completion of studies fully empowered to become a senior industrial production engineer on a managerial level to head a department at at bleep xxxx or take up appointment as a senior lecturer at my Alma Mater the University of Nigeria’s newly established department of Industrial and Production Engineering (though currently awaits full accreditation status from the National Universities Commission, NUC) to help pioneer its eventual take off. VO: what will this course do for you? Or what are your plans after graduation?? Me: With the technical vast knowledge and the on-demand skills acquired from this course, I would be fully empowered to advance my career from the position of Assistant Research officer to Senior Industrial Production Engineer on a managerial level at bleep xxxx. I wish to establish a 3D printing Technologies Company so that Nigeria and other developing countries can benefit from the rapidly evolving 3D technologies because of its wide applications in architecture, construction, aerospace, industrial design, military etc VO: how did you hear about the university? Me: I made an extensive search online with focus on schools that do research in AM Technology and Industrial Automation field and also Professor Richard Pitt’s ongoing research on 3D Print for Rocket Engine Parts. I do attend some Technology webinars where speakers talk on how enormous potentials of Rapid Prototyping will spur growth within the sector for commercial 3D Printing to reshape manufacturing globally. VO: any proficiency test? Me: English proficiency testing is not required for applicants from Nigeria and other British common wealth countries but I sat for the standardized GRE test VO: did you write any standardized Test? Me: yes ma’am, I took the GRE VO: what’s your score? Me: I scored 279,140 verbal, 139 quantitative and 3.0 on analytical writing VO: do you have anyone in the US? Me: Yes, my uncle VO: who is your sponsor? Me: my uncle VO: what does your uncle do for a living? Me: he works at bleep... VO: Why is he sponsoring you? Me: because he's like a second dad to me VO: let me have his statement of account VO: are you married? Me: (Smiles) No, I’m not yet married VO: any kids? Me: no ma’am VO: have you travelled out of Nigeria before? Me: no ma’am, I have not had any reason to travel until now, education is what’s taking me to the United States. VO: where would you stay in the US for your study? Me: I would stay in Baldwin Hall inside the campus. I have contacted the school and made inquiries, I will pay for the accommodation once my visa is approved VO: So where are you going to stay when you arrive in the US? Me: there is an airport pickup arrangement for new students so before my travel, I would send my itinerary to the international office & they would manage to pick me up VO: I will be approving you visa... 5 Likes |

It will be two weeks this weekend that I saw a dream related to this. I was at the US consulate in Lagos. A black woman I believe must be American, standing behind a counter without glass as you'd see for consular who interview. We were talking and then she said, "they are everywhere; they are seeing everything...(let me cut out the rest of what she said)". Standing right there, I was a little shock by what she said. In the same dream, I then told myself I guess I have to be mindful of what I post on nairaland. Actually, she was specifically talking about the new team at the embassy that are doing intensified background checking. And in my mind I believe they read this thread as it is one of the major active social platforms Nigerians use. When I woke up, I assess the dream to see its credibility as I normally do. There was no forethought about this in my mind the night before, lest I say this is a thought-induced dream. So, based on what that woman said in the dream, there's a team of combined Nigerians and Americans "watching" What they are watching is what I don't know. Considering the fact that Pres. Trump banned certain nationals of some muslim nations from entering the US, it is normal to have new team of eagle-eyed intelligence everywhere. In my mind, Pres. Trump is aware the US would be attacked by outsiders considering his posture and views of these nations. So, it is justifiable to have a team of eavesdroppers where necessary. In Nigerian case, it may be necessary. But I also believe nobody is in danger; we are not terrorist and not ochestrating anything against the God-blessed Nation! I know the intention of all students here is to go to the US and enjoy the thriving education system for advancement of their career and for a fulfilled life. So, taking my dream as a reality, whoever is watching, hey, we are your friends and our intention for being on this thread is pure. Give my brothers and sisters the F1 visa they need to go America to study. E fun wa ni Visa o. Ejoor! I am not a seer, but I see things before they happen ! LagosismyHome: 8 Likes |
