Nice schooling sir. You did justice .
But I wholly disagree with your usage of trend instead of thread

https://www.webopedia.com/TERM/T/thread.html

A trend is more of a post with a timeline which has gone viral.

But that's by the way. Let's not derail

Understood, bro.

Someone else has actually called my attention to it. What we have here is one of those tricky words that easily be confused for another. We could have had a healthy debate on the issue but that fool was too insulting.

Anyway, thanks for pointing this out again.

Those are ebooks in the fiction genre and series all, thats their average price. They are the lowest of the pack. Just 100 units of sales a month for only one book and i am past you minimum wage salary even without paperback version coming into play.

Let me share a little story.
A big bird was flying across where Dr Olukoya was praying during a night vigil and it fell down, cos the force of the prayer was too much.
Dr Olukoya's attention was called,by the time he got there the bird had transformed to an old woman.
He then asked her why she flew across his church and she told him,she was a satanic queen in her witchcraft kingdom, that she was sent by her Lucifer to go and strengthen the cult groups in unilag, because they hadn't spilled blood for a long time.
He told told her to surrender her life to God, and she said God forbid, that she has been serving Lucifer all her life and it was too late to turn back, she was immediately allowed to go.
This is a true life story.
I'm not a member of MFM,but I heard the story from Olukoya himself.
No silly stories, please! angry

If you can help them reach Anthony Joshua, that will be great, you expect indigenes kn Otta to get easy access to an international celebrity like Anthony Joshua?

Since you are the curious one doubting the existence, let them test one " local ring" on you, so you can confirm if it exists or not.

Wrong answer because he will answer you it can be any local person not just AJ. Any punch proof person will become champion. Canadaorbust I read your questions and I have an answer for you: generally speaking, juju does not work in all areas. Juju does not work in sports. GERNERALLY SPEAKING. It also does not work in stealing from banks. It does not work in wars, like against Boko Haram. It does not work in smuggling drugs, or in getting into other countries, or in killing people like Buhari or Trump, etc. So that's your answer - always remember, juju does not work in all areas. I have seen it countless times, you know what meet an active naija police man in anti robbery and ask him how many times he has shot an armed robber and nothing happened.
Have you heard about this town Jesse close to sapele? Go there and watch with your eyes,

EXACTLY. It works in that area. Does not mean it will work in Bornu.
Though it can also be that NPF are not well trained and have antique guns that misfire. Even in the abroad, I just read where police officers killed two of their own trying to shoot an unarmed man, who was never hit.
Then again they also have juju in the abroad, maybe the robber visited baba before operation.

Do you see how many likes you have up there on that post which reeks of ignorance? It is one reason I stopped writing stuff on Nairaland. With an illiteracy level of over 180 million people (graduates included), Nigerians still don't read. We believe in cheating in exams and insulting people with genuine knowledge and a willingness to help. For one thing, look at the president you elected and the chaos of a country that his next level.

Permit me to educate you a little bit, but you do not have to read it all, mind you. Let's begin with your own English errors.

1. For one to beginning a sentence, a paragraph, in particular, the way you have done without a determiner might be acceptable to you or those who liked your post, even many Nigerians, but guess what? That is horrible!

Your sentence should begin thus: A published author and you......

2. From your writing so far, you seem to have a serious quarrel with punctuations. The comment in which you insulted me lacks a full stop at the end, but unforgivable is the shambles that are your next two comments. Particularly the last.

Those who live in glass houses shouldn't be throwing stones, sir.

3. You are clearly blind in both eyes or you would never have made the statement below...

I'm sure you'd also call "I'm" am.

You see, in that comment of mine you quoted, I actually used the "correct" and "complete" form of the phase you have indicated and I repeat "I am a published author!" grin *(Check out the screenshot of your own quote below)
I rarely write American English on NL or use its version of the phrase in question here, which many consider an abbreviation (I'm). I do not know how to use the Nigerian foul English version of the phrase either (am). Most often than not, I use the correct queen's English version (I am)

4. Now let's take on the particular word(s) that you feel discredits me entirely as an author...

And you call a thread a "trend"?

What is wrong with you, my good friend, is that you have been roaming Nairaland daily for too many years and here, very few speak good English, most of them hardly ever comment too. On this platform, over a million people like you have been calling developing comment lines a thread, but guess what? Over a million people like you are horribly wrong!!!

Thread
You see a "thread" is that fine rope your mother used to use and your tailor currently uses to sew your clothes. However, a "thread" can also be defined as the simplest or smallest sequence of programmed instructions executable by a completer.

Trend
On the other hand, the Standard English dictionary defines a "trend" thus...
1. A general direction in which something is developing or changing.
2. A fashion.

Now, here is my problem. As a published author and intellectual with a vast knowledge base, I am well aware that there are two official versions of the English Language which can actually contradict each other in certain cases so I never trust the Standard English dictionary completely. In fact, I have four massive dictionaries on my PC alone, that's apart from the attached encyclopedias, mind you. So now let's see what my beloved Cambridge Advanced Learners dictionary and the Encarta Dictionaries have to say...

Combining their definition of "Trend" with respect to the subject...

*(of a topic) be the subject of many posts on a social media website or application within a short period of time.

Ahhhhhhh... now the sh*it has hit the fan, as my American cousin would say. Now you know why they say a photo, a comment or something, is trending on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram and not "threading" like you would say here on Nairaland. You've actually learned something new here today, haven't you?

It would seem that in ignorance, you have called me out and insulted me too for a load of rubbish. I forgive you despite that fact that you have already gotten 3 likes on your comment! They are just illiterates liking you in their own ignorance so I am not bothered at all. grin

One more thing...

Some of the best authors in the world speak bad English. Ever heard of James Hardley Chase? He speaks American street English better, hence, the tone of his books, all of which have been bestsellers for decades!
What truly makes an author is his talent, something that cannot be taught in any school or institution.

I am a legend over in the Literature section of this forum and my first book, Ruthless Betrayals, when first published here in April 2016 as a first draft, was so full of errors, but guess what? It drove women and men crazy and still does today, two editions later. Don't take my word for it, check out the "trend". The story has been moved to my website but the comments are still there.

I sold that book for #500 per copy initially, then increased the price to #750 per copy and people still bought it then came back to thank me!!! grin It's all there in the trend (remember not thread). Hit the link below.

https://www.nairaland.com/2941054/ruthless-betrayals-story-love-betrayals

My second work, a thrilling story about Boko Haram, A Billionaire's Ransom was a killer that was also full of errors when first published here on this forum. Today, after one edition, the entire series of 3 books sells for $$$ on Amazon USA, UK, Canada, etc. The Book1 is free on Okadabooks and the rest are just #500, all subsidized for Nigerians, fuel subsidy style.

The thing is when an author first writes a book it is never published right away but passed on to an "EDITOR or put through an editing software" for polishing! That first work of the author is called a first draft which is normally full of errors, after the touch of an editor, those errors vanish and that first draft becomes the original manuscript which is then published as a book. We authors and writers are the reasons why editors have jobs.

Mr. Airsaylongcon, stop insulting people even where they are ignorant or err. Correct them and be polite about it. I swear to God, you will not die if you do things that way.

I bid you a good Sunday, sir.

I NEVER SAID THERE IS NO JUJU. Jeez! Who am I to say juju or anything else does not! I am only asking specific common sense questions. Like, Germany is currently beating us 2-0 yet we are the country with countless native doctors and juju men.
I wanted to finish reading the whole thread before responding. But let me respond to this post of yours and maybe you will be more enlightened.
Why Juju can't apply in football or our army fighting boko haram or herdsmen, is because before these things can work you have to submit and believe they will actually work.
Imagine asking a group of 23 or more people (footballers and the bench and their coaching crew) to submit themselves and believe that a juju will have to work in their favor to win a match. We are talking about people of different faith and from diverse background? Won't it sound absurd?
Now, let me relate these things to OPs story. All the while he talked about juju on him and his mates, one thing stands out. They all willingly went for the juju and they believed that it will work for them. It's not necessarily the presence of the juju working for them, but the belief that this juju will actually work for them.
Again, whenever there is danger, he will run and not stupidly stand to test the juju. Those that had juju and they still kill them is because they have been surrounded by people who also know the principles of juju.
During the days of Aba Maf reign it was as if nobody could do anything to those boys. But when Bakassi boys were formed people who where in Aba then could testify about juju and counter juju. All the foundation boys that formed Bakassi boys then went and fortified themselves and they equally have a mini native doctor who goes with them on any operation. The mini native doctor was a cripple.
Abeg, make we no dey argue why these things no dey work or why e dey work. As I be Christian i submit and believe in Christ and God Almighty. But that will never make me to doubt principalities and powers.

Hello, Bro

You write very well and almost everything you wrote above is correct. However, a thread isn't only a rope for sewing and/or a set of computer programs.
A thread has also come to mean a long reply to an initial post or comment. This is what it is in social media and various fora.
You can check up on it and see that this is true.

I'm forced to comment and don't know where to begin. I just had to comment because the argument over thread vs trend is worrying. I am just afraid of what has become of our educational system. It's really happening. This is a thread that was opened by someone narrating his experience. Unfortunately, there has been a trend of some people derailing it, which is what some others have commented on but it appears that from what I am observing, some people think posting on a thread makes it trend!

Anyway, you will get to a stage in life where you won't be quick to comment or conclude. For instance, one person that posted with a lot of errors had many likes. Though, it is worrying how poorly people write but something about communication is getting the message across. We have three stages of our existence:

There will be knowledge but no experience.

There will be experience but no knowledge or lack of adequate knowledge.

There will be knowledge and some experience.

The wise one knows that knowledge and experience will continue forever. You cannot know it all and the way you react to people's experiences will show how much of knowledge or/and experience you have. Every year, new words and terms are added to the dictionary because of how millennials or internet users have used them. That teaches us context and how things evolve.

I do not want to take over someone's thread till he has got to the end. From my experience on NL, it is tiring reading long threads like this if you did not follow it from the beginning. Why? Because more often than not, unnecessary posts add up to the number of long pages and the message is lost somewhere in the pile.

Comment is free but let the writer be free to start and stop so that readers can have a logical flow. It's okay to interject but once again, the fact that comment is free doesn't mean we should abuse freedom. There are some things you will just ignore and there are sometimes silence is really golden. People keep making the comparisons between NL and other fora where people intelligently discuss topics. Readers get a lot of USEFUL information there.

Respect other users and readers please.
you are truly educated

We sat down drinking Kokoma thinking our cult group is the strongest on campus and nationwide . Whenever we hear scores of aiyesss loosing HITs in other institutions, we became angry and we immediately call the axxxe head of that particular T to know what the problem and what he lacked .

US: kpowai wetin dey sup for ur T? We dey hear scores, why you no fit deliver Na ?
Axxe head ( kpowai ) : una go mercy me oooo, 4 no dey the back ground and dem run enter us unexpected ooo
US: so make we control Squad come run the HIT? Your eye don fit map out where dem base ?
Axxe head : I go appreciate if squad fit put face , a cry for one , is a cry for all.

We then send squad to that particular institution and deliver . Whenever we drop a member of another cult group, we echo out .

Ayeeeee axxxeeee mennn

So people around will know we carried out the operation . There was a particular HIT that’s left my friends beheaded by members of the SEC. A particular Sunday morning, my girl friend woke up and prepared for mass . I stayed at a place called monkey joint in abraka . She woke up very early in the morning for 6am mass. She left home for mass and kissed me on the bed . 3 mins later, she dashed in saying her phone and her bag was collected my three guys. I rushed out with my 1 ( cutlass ) and I saw other girls running towards my direction. I saw a friend also called biggy, he just got initiated into the black axxxe and was running towards me,

Biggy: egede , some kind men just obtain us for front of burrow pit, them collect my cry ( phone ). Them metche( cut ) me join self .
Me: Na them metche you for hand like this ?
Biggy: yes oooo

I immediately echoed out

Ayyyeeeee axxxxeeee men , make all men fall out......

Axxxeee men rushed out with cutlasses and guns and we set out to chase those men, we chased them and two of them escaped , we where able to chase one into a burrow Pit at monkey joint and when we got to him, he was begging . I asked of the phones they collected , he said they where with the other members of his gang that escaped . Immediately one of the axxe men present recognized him as an eiyeee member .

So you be Elebe wey one come collect for where Sm ( strong men ) dey....

We immediately removed his hands with the cutlass and left him bleeding inside the burrow pit.

Their ibaka heard of what we did and pronounced war on aiyessssssss....
