Chocosmoothie:I'm not asking you to "change" the narrative, I am begging you to tell the true narrative. A VO can see right through you! A little tint of dishonesty can be a huge turn off. What exactly would this degree do for you? Why do you want to go through the rigours and "academicofinancial" demands of obtaining a Masters degree in the US? You find that honest answer, flesh it out, put it in 2-3 powerful sentences without dancing around. End of story. I'm glad you have confidence by the way. I wish you well my friend. |

It is not the dream itself, brother. I was only shown what was to happen. What makes the dream come true is not the dream per se, but the ONE who has designed plans for those who are being approved. I am just a layman daily dreamer who sees some things before they happen. All glory belong to God. Dreambound And yes, the dream is valid as long as God wills. There's a wind of change ahead. dreambound: |

VO: Did apply to other schools Me: Yes I did VO: which school: Me: I applied to Louisiana State University, West Virginia University, Morgantown and University of Texas El paso VO: Why did u choose this one? Me: Apart from the fact that New Mexico State University hosts one of the 54 Water research institute in United States and as such the institute provide grants for all water related researches in the school which hopefully I am a potential beneficiary (Cuts in) VO: I can see your uncle is sponsoring you Me: Yes, my uncle VO: Why is he sponsoring u? Me: He has always been supportive of my education especially during my masters program when I related the limitations in.my research results due to nonavailability of required facilities. In fact, he encouraged me most of the time and and advised me to travel abroad for my doctoral research which he also promised to fund. I EXPECTED HER TO ASK FOR HIS STATEMENT BUT SHE DIDN'T. INSTEAD SHE STARTED ANODA ROUND OF QUESTIONING THUS: VO: Why do you want a doctorate degree? Me: the doctorate degree is expected to raise my educational capabilities in research and teaching. Before now I've taught mathematics. Further mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at A level and pre-varsity centres. Such a profound program with will enable me(cut in) VO: You are not eligible for visa now. I WONDER WHY SHE ENGAGED ME IN A SUCH A LONG CONVERSATION AND STILL ENDED UP WITH REJECTION I THINK I NEED FUNDING B4 GOING BACK O! ALTHOUGH MY FACULTY SAID I'M IN THE LIST OF POTENTIAL STUDENTS TO BE GIVEN FUNDING BUT THEY'VE NOT MATCHED THAT WITH ACTION. PLS HOUSE, WHICH SCHOOL GUARANTEES PHD FUNDING WITH GRE SCORE OF 295 IN WATER RESOURCES OR/AND ENVIRONMEMTAL SCIENCE ENGINEERING? |

dumbiri99:I dont think it matters too much. The most important is look tidy and be confident in the delivery. .... the only degree I would say a big yes for Suit is if the degree is MBA then yes i would definitely dress that part . Most of their events are all suited up . However some times it just luck and not so much about what you wear |

gbeje:What's your total cost? If it's really large then uncle would be an issue. Hence, funding needed. I noticed the VO cut in too much. Just asking, how was your composure during the interview? Did you speak in a nervous/crammed/stuttering manner? You were cut off even when (from your transcript) you were making sense. The VO may not have seen the reason why you needed a PhD. You should have gone almost straight to the point to the part where you'll talk about what you want to do with it in Nigeria...like pick up a lecturing job.. I know the cut off was an issue. |
| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by LagosismyHome(f): 12:55pm On Jun 24, 2019 |
gbeje:yes best to get funding , and also write the GRE again if you can . Funding is competitive so you have to have good profile inorder for a school to fund you . While some have gotten funding with that score doesnt mean its a great score. Even if the VO had given you visa , for uncle to sponsor "not funded" PHD is no joke. The Vo knows that , Uncle means so you are a higher risk of been out of status. Even with Parents its not an easy waka . Remember the Vos have the stat of Nigerian students who became out of status . |

Anyone still on AP since 7th of June or thereabouts? Do you have your Passport with you or them? Do they have your I-20 and SEVIS receipt? Pls if you fall into any categories, share with a friend ooh. Thank you. |

@gbeje, Since I've been here, I have not seen anyone going for PH.D in the US without funding got visa. I might be wrong tho but its always slim. PhD is really expensive hence the need for funding. Your answers are not bad. Not having funding for PhD is the problem gbeje: |

I think you are very correct. I've contacted my school immediately. I hope they do something about it fast otherwise I'll have to do anoda GRE. At least there is an approved transcript of a guy here who has full funding for PhD-water resources and environmental engineering. I believe I can also achieve that. Thank you. Americanpizza: |
