But note that even if you are not next of kin, that is maybe he didn't provide that info, then you have to prove your relationship as brother, or your mother (preferably) and some court affidavit papers backing it up etc, they will pay you. It's a process though. Talk to the bank and let them tell you what you will need and how to go about it. 1 Like |

My Friend that got money from his dead relative account went to the bank. The bank refused telling him anything. They were just dribbling him. So he approached a court. The court wrote the bank requesting for the dead man's bank balance. The bank replied with speed of light. After which the court instructed them to pay the said amount into a particular relations account. That was how they surmounted the issue. From my personal experience if you just approach the bank, they will dribble you as if them be Messi and Ronado put together 7 Likes |

 Dear Nairalander,Please HelpWhat you are Reading Now didn't Occur to me but to my co NYSC Roomie... His NYSC account was Hack and Debited by an unknown fraudster, he went to Bank to complain and another ATM card was issued to him plus his account was Block so that there won't be any further Withdrawal.. After a month or two,he went back there for he needs money,so they change his Alert number to a new one,he collected 2k out of 45k and within an hour all his Balance gone again remaining kobo... He went to bank immediately after the Alert...To cut the long Issue short, Bank said they are unable to Trace the person because the fraudster opened an Express account without identity.... He has gone to the Police and Court base on this and all Efforts has been Fruitless.. Please help a Suffering Copa....He is Anambra 2018 Batch B stream 2 and will be passing out soon 1 Like |

1, Death certificate 2, two next of kin 3, the account details 4,go to the bank , from there they will tell you , go court(high court) 5,the next of kin must have passport photographe 6,in the court, they will direct you where to get the necessary forms to fill. 7,after that procedure, the court will give you some document to the bank. 8,the bank will pay the money to the court. 9,the court will take 10 percent out of the total money. xynerise: It has nothing to do with access or pin. She should produce their marriage certificate, children's birth certificate and you two should head to the bank. The bank will tell you guys what to do. When we say men should be open to their significant others, they will not listen. Bank will not listen to you as long as he has wife and children, if no wife and children then parents. It's only when these ones aren't there u can have full authority to access his account. If u know a banker or who knows a banker working with the said bank, use the person to help speed up things and later roger the person. 2 Likes |

Did the wife obtain a death certificate from a certified coroner? Did you ever advertised his death? Are there evidence of bank transactions of banks or a bank? |

xynerise: you need to get probate letter aka letter of administration, you need a lawyer for that. No bank can (or should) legally give you access to a dead person's bank unless you are the administrator of his estate. there is no way you can get to the money othewise. If your brother has a family then his wife will likely be the beneficiary, if not and he has no other siblings or parents who may contest it should be straightforward but like I said speak to a lawyer. You cant do anything to do with a dead person's estate legally without a getting a letter of administration first. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Yes you can get it.The procedure depends on the amount.If the amount is less than #500,000 It will be regarded as small estate which sum could be obtained by court order.If it is more than that it will require obtaining a letter of administration from probate registry of the court.In summary you need a lawyer,if you are in Ibadan I can be of assistance. approach an high court within your jurisdiction for balance enquiry in his account. if the amount in his account is less or equal to 150k, just an affidavit and a guarantor will be enough. if more than 150k, then your need to appoint an administrator which will be certify by an high court then his payment will be made in form of managers cheque or you open an estate account with the bank. Note, his death certificate will be needed , note if its via administrator, you will pay some due from the amount in his account to state government. Good luck 2 Likes 1 Share |

U don't need any lawyer because it will be too expensive. Be ready to forfeit certain percentage to the state government. Go to the office of Administrator General under Ministry of Justice. They will put u thru. They will write the bank and the money will be released. But 15% will be forfeited if this case happens in my state. Good luck 4 Likes 1 Share |
