Born2Breed:Real rabbits do exist in Nigeria, though their population is small, and they don't spot fluffy hairs like their foreign counterparts. I remember I and my friends captured one when we were still kids. We later ate it though. |

Efewestern: There is nothing like bini, the real people are Igodomigodo. Bini is the word ile ibinu, given after the Yoruba conquest of Ogiso territory and established the bini territory. Samething with Ado. The word Edo is derived from Ado, which is the name of the First Yoruba prince of Igodo land. This is where many people get confused and start thinking Urhobo or Igbodomigodo people are yoruba becos Oba is yoruba. wrong! |
Re: Made Cooks Food With The Rat He Caught (photos) by Efewestern: 6:30am On Aug 04, 2019 |
legitnow: There is no such word like "Ile Ibinu" in ancient Bini history, it was recently coined when the Edo and Yoruba supremacy battle started. "Ubinu" was the right word and it was used to describe the royal administrative centre of Edo kingdom. Ubinu was later corrupted to Bini by Portuguese speakers. Apart from the Okpe clan of Urhobo who traces their origin to Ile-ife, the Urhobos have always maintained, from ancient time that they are from Bini, no one can even link Urhobo to Yoruba, you can do that with itsekiri, which is a direct offshoot of various Yoruba clans, not Urhobo. Igbodomigodo is the first name given to the Bini empire, it was named by the first Ogiso, so Igbodomigodo = Bini, since we are referring to a people living in a given territory. Bini and Yoruba shared a lot in common in the past, so its normal for both to steal some words from each other, reason for the Oba tittle I guest. 3 Likes 2 Shares |

Efewestern: Yeah! That is just it, the administrative centre u call Ubinu is not indigenous to the Igodomigodo people. The way u use the word Bini should be measured becos Igodomigodo people and Bini are totally unrelated until 12th Century wen Oranmiyan invaded and destroyed the Ogiso dynasty by war. Bini was imposed on them and foreign. Before the coming of Yoruba Oba in the 12the century and then elivated by the portugese in the 15 century via slave trade, the Igodomigodo people now refered to as Bini had an indigenous King called Ogiso. The kingdom was refered to as Idu. U say Edo but that is a corrupted word of a Yoruba Prince called Ado from the 12th century. Itsekiri are mixed with Igodomigodo people and Ijaw. They originally were full blooded Yoruba but not anymore. They came with the Oba in 12 century as fighters. In fact Ondo state is a mix of Igodomigodo, yoruba and Ijaw. This is a list of the independent Ogisos (Kings) of Igodomigodo, which was to become the Benin Empire, from 355 BC to 1092 AD. Name Capital Igodo Igodomigodo Ere Ile Orire Ile Odia Ile Ighido Ile Evbobo Ile Ogbeide Ile Emehen Ile Akhuankhuan Ile Ekpigho Efeseke Irudia Etebowe Odion Imarhan Orria Emose (female) Orrorro (female) Irrebo Ogbomo Agbonzeke Ediae Oriagba Odoligie Uwa Eheneden Ohuede Oduwa Obioye Arigho Owodo Evian (administrator) Irebor Ogiemwen (administrator) |

Efewestern: see below Tradition asserts that the Edo people became dissatisfied with the rule of a dynasty of semimythical kings, the ogisos, and in the 13th century they invited Prince Oranmiyan of Ife to rule them. His son Eweka is regarded as the first oba, or king, of Benin, though authority would remain for many years with a hereditary order of local chiefs. Late in the 13th century, royal power began to assert itself under the oba Ewedo and was firmly established under the most famous oba, Ewuare the Great (reigned c. 1440–80), who was described as a great warrior and magician. He established a hereditary succession to the throne and vastly expanded the territory of the Benin kingdom, which by the mid-16th century extended from the Niger River delta in the east to what is now Lagos in the west. (Lagos was in fact founded by a Benin army and continued to pay tribute to the oba of Benin until the end of the 19th century.) Ewuare also rebuilt the capital (present-day Benin City), endowing it with great walls and moats. The oba became the supreme political, judicial, economic, and spiritual leader of his people, and he and his ancestors eventually became the object of state cults that utilized human sacrifice in their religious observances. |

legitnow: You said the Igbodomigodo people are not related to Bini until 12th century? first time I'm hearing this, Oranmiyan only brought his unique style of leadership to Igbodomigodo, he met with the Enogie's daughter and they birthed Eweka 1, Igbodomigodo Was later renamed to Ubinu by Eweka 1. You view about the Itsekiri's is wrong, the itsekiri had no contact with the Ijaw people until they settled in present day delta. There are some autonomous communities in itsekiri to this day who traces their own origin to Ijebu. Like I said earlier, Itsekiri is a direct offshoot of various Yoruba clans, those from escravos migrated from the present day Ilaje, The itsekiri only adopted a Bini prince to rule them, thus the Olu of Itsekiri dynasty was created. So they are mixture of Yoruba and Edo. |
