Going as student you would be given a student category Visa with just 120days for work.

But as a Family Reunion, you can work full time.

It's better to go for a family reunion, while you are in Germany, then you can apply for studies.

But just that the waiting time for the family reunion, procedure and everything. One might think of using the option.

But trust me , it's better for the FAM reunion if you are patience enough

Seconded, but for the waiting time it depends on some factors, she might be lucky to get it within 3months or at most 9months . but no matter the waiting period, going through family reunion is the best.

Hello Everyone!

My wedding is in August 2019. Is it advisable to apply for family reunion visa now seeing that the process takes a while and I don't have a wedding certificate till August?

Also, I will appreciate a step by step process on application for the visa.

Thank you.

In case you and your spuse are still together in the country, you could consider doing a court wedding to have your papers. With a court wedding certificate, you can begin your processes while you wait for your final wedding in August.

Hello all, please I am an intending masters student. I've got my AL awaiting my interview.

I am married with a child. However, my question is, as a student with student residence permit, can I apply for family reunion visa for my wife and child?
What could be required for such please.

Yes. You can apply for family reunion, but you will need to show evidence of enough finance to cater for them and enough living space

Same Block Amount money.
50 square meter of an apartment.

Knowledge of German Language A1 for your spouse.

The minimum amount it's same block account. However, a job contract can supplement it, like a year student Job contract. So having a block account with a student job is enough for both of you, but you will also need 250€ each month for your child.
Living space is 12 sqm for each adult and 10 sqm for each child between 2 to 6 years old. The problem is, it's always difficult to see a landlord that will give you 34 sqm for 3 of you because they usually thinking tearing and wearing in apartment of such size would be much, so they prefer giving such apartment to single person or at most two people. Germans usually consider baby as a full person in renting.

You will need health insurance for your family and your landlord will be required to sign that he agrees you and your family live in the rented apartment.German A1 is required also.

Getting a 30 sqm and above apartment in some German states is a very difficult problem and very expensive!!

Family reunion visa from German consulate in Nigeria takes long time and one needs financial wherewithal, that you can fulfill all these requirements so that you don't abandon it midway.

Family reunion visa is good only, if one intends to stay longer in Germany.

Hello Everyone,

Thanks so much for the great advice from all contributors to this forum.

I think someone should lend a voice to this unrealistic waiting period for a visa appointment. Please, what is the way forward to fasten this shameful challenge?

My resumption date is 1st of August and the appointment booking site is showing a waiting period of 14 - 16 months. I have never seen anything as frustrating as this. And to worsen the situation, the confirmation email clearly stated that one should refrain from inquiries in the meantime (a perfect synonym for I don't care).

Someone more experienced should kindly advice on a possible alternative instead of waiting a whole year for a visa appointment (Employer go don move on be that naa).

Na to get someone in Germany to voice an opinion, only God knows what is going on? And you are right by the time you waited a year employer would have moved on.

Okay then. By the looks of things, you applied over two months ago, have you been able to get a date? This is going to the third month I have applied. Wanted to be sure you got your date within the specified timeline. I just need to be sure they will send an appointment date within the timeline they sent in the confirmation mail.

I applied in May and still no communication, I try to send them a mail a week but I get no replies. I have a friend that applied at the end of April and still waiting to. Then it was 5 months on the waiting list embarassed. I think his will spill over to month 3 soon. Na time to just go fast for church.

I guess they are giving preference to uni students because that is their main source of income, but it irritates me to hear people apply on those pages without even having an admission letter or a surety that they get admission

I applied at the end of April. Still waiting. Then it was 5 to 7 months waiting period. By their timeline, I shoulf be getting a mail from them this month. I just needed to know if someone got a mail by three months just like they said.

The wait period is crazy though.

Do let us know when you get the appointment date. It will help us know if they actually follow through with the instructions of the confirmation email.

Hello Everyone
Reading through this thread has encouraged me a lot

I applied for German family reunion visa for my son and I in August last year. We had our interview on the 31st of October and the lawyer visited for verification early in December. Since then I have not heard anything from the Embassy in lagos. Its been 9 months now.
My husband works in Germany as a Medical Doctor and has an EU bluecard.
I called the embassy over 2 weeks ago and I was asked to send an email which I did. There was no response so I called again and the person who responded said he will forward the enquiry to the necessary department. I have not gotten any response whatsoever since then.
Please what do you advice I do and I want to know if anyone has similar experience.

Hello house, thanks so much elders for the efforts u make to clarify issues for new comers...
My questions are-
#How early after hubby gets to Germany as a student can the family reunion visa processing commence? (Hubby is almost set for the winter semester).
#Can the amount he pays into the blocked account while processing his student visa be sufficient also for family reunion visa for I and 3 kids? If not, how much extra is recommended?
#What are the working conditions like for women over there, especially with the kids around?

Thanks so much for your prompt replies...

Hello good morning to you, please I have a question that is bothering me since last week, I went to Germany embassy last week Wednesday with my mother for a visa in Germany, we went with invitation but my fear, we went with the old schengen application forum, thou the woman there was nice to me and my mother but she told us that the application form is the old one but she will rearrange it for us, now I want to ask, will that make them to deny us ? Because we applied with the old application, secondly the asked me how much I earn annually and I said 3.4m out of fear instead of 3.6m, is this a red flag ?

hi all. I want to drop a piece of information that might be useful for all. if you can fund 2 blocked accounts. you can leave with your wife immediately. all you have to do is fill in your form that your wife is coming with you with all the necessary marriage documents and both of you can get your visa together and leave. A friend here in DE did the same with his wife and they are here. the issue is always the funds. but if the funds are there. the easiest and fastest way is for both of you to apply together.

For those trying to estimate how long they have to wait before they get an appointment for work visa; I applied around 20th of march - It had a wait period of 5 to 7 months then. I got a date recently for end of sept. A solid 6 and half months of waiting. It is crazy. My advice is to ignore anyone telling they can get you an earlier appointment, it is likely a scam. Your employer cannot help you get an earlier date too.

This is really heartbreaking! What this means is that the estimated wait period is real. I just pray my employer will be willing to wait for a whole year just to have me on board. One shouldn't expect anything less.

@megafustar
If your employer agrees, they can have you start working for them for a reduced monthly pay as a freelancer. You will still earn well and they'd get work done, and everyone is happy for the meantime. Please be open with them, let them know how long you might wait for an appointment. Then ask if you can pitch in as a freelancer pending when you can join them. It helps make it easier to wait. However, some will not agree because there are a lot of German labour laws to navigate. Quite a number that have done it before will keep you as a freelancer, but that might take some weeks to finalise. Honestly, in my opinion, being useful from a distance is the only way any company can afford to wait over one year to make a hire.
