Your logic is not balanced.

It is like sacked NEPA Staff coming to protest and your hate on them for poor electricity supply instead of blaming the organisational structure & entity called NEPA.

If you cannot endure the logical rigors of separating the indiviuals from the company; in this case, the unfortunate and illtreated ecobank staff from the corporate entity called Ecobank, then please dont come online to poor sand sand in their garri.

What the bank did is totally inhuman. After 12years of work and they leave with peanuts in a bank where the last CEO retired with HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS is the height of injustice. After all, the people who did the real work are these small fry. They should treat them with dignity and pay them well. Otherwise, let them take on the bank; they have nothing to lose.

If I hear hard work for Una mouth ehn.

I lost reasonable money to Ecobank staff negligence sometimes ago.

I made a transaction which the beneficiary claimed didn't receive and had been debited from my Ecobank account. I insisted the beneficiary should hold on till I confirm what happened from Ecobank before making another transaction.

I went to Ecobank branch and I was asked to fill in a disbursement error form which I did.

I asked repeatedly as I never trusted the beneficiary if I could go ahead and make a new payment to the beneficiary, the customer care lady said a capital yes assuring me the initial fund will be reversed to my account immediately as I'd filled the disbursement error form.

I left and made a fresh payment to the beneficiary, and I forgot about the whole thing..

2days, 5days one week gone no reversal.
I went to the branch again to complain, it was then they started looking for the disbursement error form I filled a week ago.
When they eventually found the form, it was discovered that the form wasn't processed, during the period, the cash cleared into the beneficiary's account unaltered because the form was not processed..

We started sending mails to Lagos office to rectify the issue, the guy in Lagos equally didn't respond tilll about 26days of the whole mess.. We kept calling from the branch phone, the branch manager's mobile number and my personal mobile number, the idiot was not on desk for days, and wasn't responding to mobile phone calls..

When he finally responded after 26days.. He only commented "the transaction cleared into the beneficiary's account" that was how I lost the money..

I quietly stoped using the account for any transaction since 2016. I just counted Ecobank out of my business life.

It may be funny that most employee don't deserve what they actually earn and can be so shameless to come to protest ground without conscience..

after putting in long hours to work, they just throw you out and pay you peanuts.

That’s why I urge every growing youth out there to learn handwork. Incase, they sack you from work, you can use that to maintain you and your family.

Well said... Entrepreneurship is the way forward. No matter how small, it pays to learn a trade or craft by the side. Salaried occupations are becoming more of a liability in this dying economy.

So sad, but alas they will never listen. . .#120000 In 10 years, when there are things you can do and make more than that in a day!
You need to have a plan B! Think of your future! Think of the future of your children! Think RESIDUAL/PASSIVE Income! I rest my case.

That wasn't my point. Too many people glorify this hand work thing like it's a super alternative to paid employment. Nigeria is the poverty capital of the world; after your hand work training, is it not the same pauper employees you belittle that will patronize you?.
Exactly, entrepreneurship is not a substitute for the failure of government to create an enabling environment to create jobs.

I sympathize with the workers on their termination of employment, however, we need to understand how the private sector works, most employees go into the private sector with public sector mentality. The word job security doesn't exist in the private sector, in the private sector you have to always value innovate to remain relevant.

I'm sure if we check some of the affected people, they have not made any significant upgrade to themselves in the last decade, no professional certification, no additional education qualification, no additional skill training, nothing. The private sector has to always value innovate to stay in business to do so they have to get fresh ideas, but for them to do so they have to get rid of no ideas and that's what has happened in the retrenchment.

Doing business in Nigeria is hard, and only harder organizations survive. Unfortunately, the protest will yield nothing because what is happening has happened before, the best we can do is learn from it and move on, it's sad that it is happening when our economy is on life support but we all got to survive.

In civilised nations, you simply just can't downsize just like that unless d company is filing for bankruptcy

Nope

Companies can rightsize anytime they damn well please as there's no law that stops them, except on discriminatory grounds.

That's why it's better to always collect loan as a bank worker, I'm sure they won't attempt sack during the repayment period. I may be wrong sha. I have a friend there, I don't even know the best advice I can give him.
Even if you have existing loan, it doesn't stop the bank from disengaging a staff.

The best for employee is to have a plan B.

Nigeria is a failed nation, failed in all aspect.

bank workers need to find a way to unionize

that is the only way this will not happen

make we hear word jare. alot of these organizations pay their executive ridiculous benefits for no actual value

Please

Executives bear the greatest burden

You can't compare a cubicle drone working on a single widget with one responsible for hundreds of millions or even billions in sales, financials, projects etc.

A marketing executive responsible for meeting sales targets of billions should rightly earn several hundreds more than a white collar dispensable drone working in a tiny corner of a large enterprise

I agree. I heard about this from a reliable source yesterday. Apparently, most people sacked were bank tellers with over 10 years in service. Some of them in their mid 30s who have been getting salary increments as the norm. As a business man, would you keep increasing salaries for a skill set like bank tellers or would you employ young people in their early 20s willing to earn a fraction to kick start their career? Being a bank teller for 10 years doesn't sound like someone you would want to keep indefinitely. My opinion but put urself in the position of the owner.

Many of those sacked I believe , got comfortable as bank tellers. I even call them support staffs or contract workers.
Robots! They don't add more value and many never took the opportunity to grow themselves.

Many would have used their little personal time to grow themselves, make contacts and pull out.

It's not a permanent job and shouldn't be done for more than 5 yrs.

The aim of every teller should be to learn how to manage other people's money, learn how the bank uses other people's money to make money, make contacts, take cheap and stress free loan from the bank and move into bigger things or better still grow yourself career wise and move on.

Never get two comfortable in life. I personally find it difficult to keep a job for more than 3 years.

Just slowed down cos it was becoming more like a habit.

Learn to b come so good you can always fire your employer and break their hearts without giving a Shi.t.
