Bro, it is high time you pulled off that yeye tie, shirt and trouser and enter street and find better deal. Think of what you can do to earn money without being under anyone. You can first target 1k per day, trust me, it will get better

The longer you stay, the harder it would be to get out. Start searching for business ideas/skills. They abound on NL. Your time is precious, don't waste it in the education sector.

Absolutely. This is the TRUTH

My sec. sch. English teacher back then once told us in class similar story. Don't be discouraged by this little beginning. More greater things ahead. He's now a lecturer even though his salary wasn't that much as expected.

He often say something "If no one is willing to make the system better then the next generation will suffer more which is why he choose teaching as his passion". If truly teaching is your passion don't be discouraged then go for it.

I have been through worse I worked with a school where the propietress insults you in front of the student, talks to you any how because of 15k.
The last private school I worked in, I taught English studies jss1-3 and literature ss1-3 for 13k, and December last year we were paid #6500 because we vacated on the 15th.
Private schools are slave drivers, I reject it for my worse enemy
BTW is the school marvelous treasure

I looked back at the beginning of this year, precisely 14th January 2019 when I started working at a private primary school. Three weeks later, I was told that I had to be taking two primary five students extra lessons after closing (3pm), and the pay was 1k each. With my monthly salary which was 13,000 added to the "1k" each makes 15 thousand.

You would think I earned 13k for three months abi! No I didn't. The first salary I got was the half of 13k. The woman just called the staff on the 28th of January and gave me 6.5k. I had no idea what was going on and I thought she was going to balance up at the beginning of February just like she said while addressing us but it was a lie. it was at the end of the term, the third month April, that I got to know I am being ripped off. She said she was going to pay 5000 naira at the end of the term as salary because school opened for just 10 days. It was the greatest shock of my life. A graduate, a grown up man like me, taking 5000 naira home!!
I wanted to leave but I couldn't because I wouldn't be paid for the common entrance lesson and I had not gotten any other opportunities elsewhere.

Sometimes in early February, She called me that I would be handling primary 5 Common entrance lessons which is meant to hold every Saturday and at the end of the third term the money will be shared between Me, a staff that partners me and the proprietress. She said the money will be shared 60%(I and another man) to 40%(the proprietress). The formula was very unfair and strange to me. The sharing formula seemed very strange to me and I challenged it but she enforced it.

Fast forward to early this month, precisely 3rd of July, the proprietress started acting strange and insulting all the workers and all that. The following week she sent one of the oldest staff by to inquire what will be the staff reaction if they are not paid at the end if the term. The staff said they won't agree to such and some even threaten various actions. Fast forward to Thursday 25th of July, vacation day. the woman started up a plethora of complaints deliberately she said she was going to pay 4000 as July salary. The same thing she did at the end of second term. At the end she ended up not paying a dime. She didn't pay any of us. Not even the common entrance lesson which made me stay.

I cried and stayed inside throughout Friday. I had a deep thinking, with my academic background! Was it that I didn't know my worth? with all my struggles to be successful academically I am now slaving in one private school for a paltry sum of 15k, money wey I no fit cope with as an undergraduate! Money wey be say no reach my NYSC allawee!
I really feel for graduates going through phases like this. I really feel for graduates teaching at private schools. I pray better days finds you and I soon.

This part really got me laughing so hard!

I once taught briefly after NYSC about 8 years ago. The workload was a bit much but I was never owed. Nowadays, all I hear are stories of gloom about how these proprietors and proprietress owe, pay less than agreed salary and still engage them in slave labour. This is what happens when there's no regulatory body to put these bosses to check.

If the poster is in Lagos, I would have called him to be taken my sister's daughter a lesson three times a week for 15k. Unfortunately, he didn't mention his location. God will put smile on your face. You will soon sing a new song insha'Allah!

I guess I was a bit lucky.. taught in a school in Ilorin.. starting salary was more than the minimum wage then. Opened a pension account for each staff and the school pays 70% while d staff pays 30% into the pension account every month. welfare packages every December, before I left the school the cleaner was earning 12k.
And salary increases every new session. I missed the school but I have my own dream to achieve also.

You didn’t mention whether the business was making money though - ( just on a moral ground)
Nigeria don't have small claims court to handle this type of issues. Very easy!

Think outside the box too... instead of just lamenting
