Mikel retiring and leaving the scene was key for me because I knew it was going to bring about a different approach in the new era. Mikel is the last true playmaker/midfield generalissimo we have and his retirement means the Super Eagles will have to evolve even further before another midfield general emerges as true heir.

I foresaw Mikel's leave more than a year before the tourney but some here were still contemplating him being around till 2021 if he still has it. I said 2019 is his final curtain and it wss important because him leaving at the right time means we can take shape for 2022 properly enough. That is part of the details not all of you here noted far back.


On Ujah, enough of the "What Ifs"... Let the guy reach that benchmark first showing genuine quality before he is even mentioned. But I know the guy won't because he cannot suddenly produce what he lacks. Dude is so ordinary. I have watched enough of him to know. So good luck to expecting a goals rush from him. Players go up and they go down in performance that's football.

First of all l talked about Fred Onyedinma in comparison to the quality of players we were inviting.

Nonetheless, many moons ago l said he made a BIG MISTAKE completely misplaced loyalty to Millwall. This is kid thar won MOTM at the age of 17 in the Championship. Wanted by Arsenal, Tottenham and others.

Fast forward last 2017/18 Watford and QPR made confirmed bids for him. That foolish mistake to stay with a Quintessential kick and rush, blood and guts police game manager at Millwall gas literally ruined the ascendancy of his career.

I wrote him off two seasons ago.

However, I did not write off Dominic Iorfa he was not treated FAIRLY but denied opportunity to compete. After the shameful politics of Mendes at Wolves. He then goes to Sheffield Wednesday in the January window and as a defensive player scores three goals and is outstanding with severs assists. He may end up very shortly in the EPL.

Aneke is pure Quality and has been for quite sometime. How many players have been continous consistent top quality and the OUTSTANDING at club and league over the past two seasons. He has just leapfrog from League 2 to the Championship all this after a near two year Injury nightmare.

So apart from Onyedinma who has just sign with Wycombe Wanderers. Are you saying the other two are not making headway in thier careers ❓

The problem was that he hit a wall last season because that was his first year as a pro. U can't blame him much before then he was carrying QPR. Reminds u of Richarlison at Watford when he scored all those goals in the first half of the season then went blank in the rest.

Mees Palace Football Academy in Jos recruits players under 10 years old and tries to keep them for around 7 years. They educate the boys about different roles in football (referee, administrative staff, etc) and ensure they get a decent education. Contracts are signed with parental approval.
Their U13s are currently participating in the Tsemba Wummen U13 League. This is a model many of our NPFL and NNL sides should consider adopting.

Why can't we have an NPFL under 13, under 17 and under 20 league?? I am sure, there will be commmercial appeal for such leagues.

It will help reduce the scale of age cheating which is rampant in the league. In the long run, our under 20 and under 23 teams will benefit.

Cost is probably one of the major obstacles. As long as clubs are owned by the government cost will always be a factor. Even the most serious state governors have other priorities...healthcare, education, etc are (rightly) more important to them. I don't think the LMC even has the funds to add another youth league. What our league needs more than anything is privately owned clubs. More people will be willing to invest, security, TV rights can come into play, proper scouting, fan turn out etc.

Another problem is the willingness to properly invest in these govt owned clubs. GBS (the one that has the deal with an Eastern European club) and Mees Palace are both in Plateau state but I doubt if Plateau United can even verify the ages of Plateau Utd youth players. Meanwhile, these academies can potentially give them a steady supply of players (at least we know that not all academy players will make the cut abroad) for their own academy (buying, loaning, etc). This is something they can take advantage of but they are obviously not doing that.

I think clubs try to work around this by having feeder teams in the lower leagues. These teams are supposed to have younger players but age cheating is still a problem for us so most of them are deceiving themselves. I've heard that the most consistent team in this regard is Nasarawa United. I read that have a working model that allows them sell off/loan their youth players to a number of clubs. I can't verify though.

Privatization is actually our only reasonable solution. Until we do that we're just trying to fix a broken leg with a bandaid.
