what people do not understand is that when android and iOS emerged, smartphones were also just emerging. now they are fully established. harmony os success depends on its level of compatibility with android and how seamlessly one can switch between both. but even then, android will still be difficult to usurp. Google has over 10 years of experience in the is market. huawei can't beat that

There is always room for development to Americans. Ever wondered why Microsoft and google are still relevant after so many yrs despite the fact that China created alternatives, even for facebook? These alternatives are used only within China! Not every company is like nairaland which never changed anything except admin passwords since their inception!

Let's wait and see but i feel there's going to be a real competition. Forget that its a Chinese made product but these guys have been really top notch in terms of hardware so expect the unexpected from them in the software area. Besides google has shutdown many of its rival softwares e.g hangouts, google+ etc meaning even their Android can also be rivalled. Huawei could still have underground connections with silicon valley. The coming months is sure to be interesting in the software market.

Yet it dominates the TV market and powers virtually all non-smartphone Samsung smart devices.

Huawei is not stupid for releasing HarmonyOS first for TVs and later for wearables and IoTs. That's the only place where it stands a chance as there is no dominant OS player in those niches. If you create a compelling product, no one would care about the OS. Very few people care that Samsung, Sony, or LG TVs use different OSes.

Android will continue to be the de facto leader in the smartphone OS space for the same reason Windows remains the de facto leader in the laptop OS space.

Never underestimate the Chinese. Their strategy in business is price. Wait until you start seeing 1k dollar phone if it were android or ios for 200 dolls yet can still do same thing.

It's a decent start for Huawei. Hopefully in the next 15 years, they might captured 5 percent of the market. Even Huawei won't be using their own OS on Huawei phones.

The model works for them.

If China wasn't doing that, they'd be struggling like India. I understand, heck even admire, their tenacity. But they must be contained. I like my personal freedoms guaranteed by a US-led hegemony.

China would turn that on its head with their aggressive subjugation (for example the social credit score program already implemented in Mainland China) if they get the chance.
