Hi everyone,

This thread promises to be very interesting. So sit back and enjoy.

I was walking down the road close to my house when I saw a young boy walking his adult female Boerboel. The beauty of the dog caught my interest and so I walked up to him. He told me the dog currently has a litter of puppies which he took me to see. That was how I got my female Boerboel which I named Jessy.

I got Jessy at 8 weeks but she looked malnourished. This I blame on the owners of her parents who left them to their mother's milk which was not sufficient for them as they were due for other food.

Pictures of when I got Jessy at 8 weeks

The first night Jessy spent in my apartment, she ate noodles and JoJo can food all through the night and messed the apartment up with horribly smelly poo.

I took her to the vet who gave her first shots before I bought. She had a second DHLPP shots and got dewormed. Next meal of noodles and JoJo can food was met with rejection. That is one episode I hate with dogs. The GSD I had in past was very picky to his own detriment.

I immediately swung into action by rushing to an abattoir very close to my eyes to get foetus. I got the one in the bowl for 1k.

After getting the foetus, I fed her a piece in its raw state and she munched it. But I don't intend to feed her raw meat now because she's not yet mature enough to handle parasites they might contain.

I took some of the meat and boiled it very well then deboned it before mincing it and mixing with crushed noodles. I also added some raw vegetables and egg.

Did Jessy finish the meal?

If it was possible for her to swallow her plate, she would have done so.

Below are pictures of her after just a week with me feeding on noodles

My vet advised I give her canned foods or bagged dry foods, but I don't trust them. Asides from being overly expensive, they are one of the reasons why dogs fall sick.

Pictures of mother and father. The pictures didn't do justice to their actual look at all. The father also couldn't balance for a decent shot.

dry food doesn't make your dog sick, it even helps in keeping them healthy.
tbh there is no amount of cow foetus and indomie you want to feed your pup that can compare to dry food and canned food.

it's your choice what you want to feed your pup sha but the fact is that the dry food is better than what you're cooking at home

Dogs were never eating dry food in the wild. They ate food worse than foetus e.g dead and rotten animals.

Dry food is good but bad in the sense that they can be cancerous due to preservatives. They also make dogs fat which is unhealthy. Lets I forget, they make them have tartar in their teeth and bad breathe.

Raw and cooked food makes dogs grow at a natural rate and with a lean and healthy look.

I appreciate your contribution though.

well you were almost right....
first of all, dogs are not the same animals they were in the wild so comparing what they ate then and now is just ludacris.
dogs ate rotting meat in that era but right now some dogs fall sick if they eat bad eggs or they don't get dewormed regularly.

secondly, saying that dry food is bad in the sense of the possibility of cancer is also far fetched. yes processed food(even with humans) have the probability of causing cancer but the possibility is small to insignificant.
also, isn't indomie also processed food?, which do you think is healthier for a growing puppy, processed food for dogs or processed food for humans?
how many dogs have you seen or heard of that suffers from a form of cancer?
dry food isn't even meant to be a probable way for your dog to develop cancerous cells, it's just very improbable.
saying that dry food makes dogs fat is also wrong because any food with enough fat inside it will make your dog put on weight.
if you over feed your dog your dog will get fat, if you feed a dog the right amount of food it will not get over weight.
the indomie and foetus you feed your dogs is also rich in fat you know? and the fat in dry food is healthier than the fat in indomie for dogs.
yes raw food gives better dental hygiene with dogs but then again you can still clean your dog's teeth to prevent tartar build up.
I brush my dog's teeth twice a week with canine toothpaste and his teeth are still very white and it also gives him fresh minty breath.

thirdly, dry food contains all the requirements a dog needs to grow, it contains vegetables (which you don't feed your dog), probiotics to keep the dog healthy (which you don't feed your dog), the right calcium to phosphorus ratio( which you also don't give your dog), natural occurring bacteria to boost immunity and resistance to sickness (which you also don't feed your dog).
it contains the right amount if protein and fat for a dog to grow healthy and the amount of carbohydrate in it was also properly calculated.
it's also rich in vitamins and minerals that also help growing puppies.
the food you make at home is basically guess work tbh, I'm sure you don't even know the nutritional make up of the noodles you feed your dog, a dog's diet isn't just carbohydrate and protein with one multivitamin tablet a day.
you can say you don't want to feed your dog dry food for your own reasons but you can't say it's better to feed a dog noodles made for human consumption (which isn't also healthy for a humans daily diet) and an unborn cow than food made by actual nutritionists that have degrees in animal nutrition.

even if you want to feed your dog homemade food, indomie and foetus isn't in anyway a balanced meal for puppies lol, there are several better home made recipes tbh .

you can choose to feed your dog homemade food but you can't deny the fact that dry food and canned puppy food is superior.
my dog has been on puppy food since he was 4 weeks old and now he's turning one year old in a few weeks and he hasn't fallen sick once, not even once.
his dental hygiene is okay, his weight is okay and he's also lean and healthy.
most of those stories you hear about dry food are false or misinformed.
dry food isn't bad for dogs if you buy a trustworthy brand and give the right quantity.

You sound like you are marketing dry food. Don't be too dependent on experts; same experts who often tell us what happened on Earth billions of years ago but were only born 50 something years ago.

You are right about nutrients for dogs, but these things can be sourced locally without having to buy them bagged up.

Your dog might not fall sick, and I don't pray it does, but these doesn't mean dry food doesn't have lots of side effects. The exception proves the rule.

Basically, what you are saying is that dogs won't survive if they get weaned off humans. That's wrong. Dogs don't measure nutrients they feed on in the wild; they simply eat.

As for noodles, dogs do well on it but not 100 percent. They are just fillers. And don't tell me bagged foods don't contain fillers and junks food too.

Most dog owners and breeders are gradually shifting to raw or cooked food and they get good results. Nutritional mix and degrees aren't always followed by dogs in the wild, yet they grow.

Look, this thread is not created to argue nutrition. It is here to document the growth of a puppy. So you can kindly keep to your ideas, which I appreciate, lest the thread gets derailed.

"Dogs in the wild". "WILD dogs"

Is your dog wild or domesticated?

Nigerians over do it for dogs. If you ask the people who created the boerboels what they feed them, you will realize that all this is unnecessary. I never wasted time deboning and crushing noodles etc for mine and it still got big as it should. The breed looks substandard in Nigeria because they're just petted and fed to get "big".

You're overfeeding them and just making them fat. Never seen a fit dog in Nigeria. They're always just overfed as if that's what ensures a big and healthy dog.

Anyway, more pics. Let's do this reality online show thingie.

Pictures from today.

Last week when Jessy took her second shots of vaccines, I noticed she couldn't walk properly. One of the legs she took a shot in was a bit swollen and hurting her. I quickly rushed to the vet to lay complain. He gave a pain reliever and said she would be fine afterwards. It took another day before she got back on her feet.

The deboning I do is simply because the dog is still a puppy. Also, cooked bones are not good for dogs. They sometimes splinter and injure them when swallowed.

Op your dog really looks good and i can see the transformation already within 2weeks+ of purchase. Keep it up.

Pertaining the feeding, I think you're doing a pretty good job in her already but some of the things Iamanderson said is also correct. Not everyone likes feeding their dog kibbles, I've only used dry feed once and didn't buy it again based on "choice". I believe raw feeding is the best to raise a boerboel pup to look good but I know of NGKD Bob, a boerboel raised on purely dried food whom scored about 84% during the appraisal making him break a record in Nigeria. So in a nutshell I'd advice anyone to go for what they think will be best for their dogs, after all we all buy them with our own money

yes this is exactly what I was trying to say, dry food is actually a very good feed for dogs and it's more nutritious than home cooked meals.
still a dog can survive on home cooked meals and still grow well.
it all depends on your choice but the fact is dry food is still superior.

why are you comparing domestic dogs to wild dogs? grin
these breeds have actually never survived without humans because they were all created by humans. they have always been around humans who feed them.
have you seen a stray boerbel? maybe when you see one you'll know that there is a difference between a well fed mastiff and a "wild one" .
and most dog owners are shifting because it is cheaper grin do you think people enjoy going to the market and cooking for their dogs?.
I'm sure if dry food was very cheap everyone will prefer to just go to the shop once a month and pour it in a plate everyday lol.
I'm also switching to home cooked meals when my dog is done with his bag, the amount he eats daily now is very expensive so I have to cut corners grin. I'm pretty sure I won't enjoy cooking everyday for him to eat before I leave the house.
if you think you can treat your dog's diet like how a wild one does and it'll do well then don't deworm your puppy and feed her rotten meat for 3 months and see the difference.
domestic dogs aren't wild dogs, nutrition helps keep them healthy and makes sure they grow properly.
and the "fillers" in dog food is mostly brown rice which is still a better meal for a dog that processed noodles.
gram for gram, dry food is more nutritious than noodles and foetus it's not even an argument.

it's about choice at the end, don't say dry food is bad for dogs because it's actually one of the best coupled with raw feeding.

I don't have anything against home cooked meals, I'm also going to switch few weeks from now, but let's call a spade a spade.

I'm not going to comment on this again so the thread won't be derailed, I'm following the thread grin, nice pup wink

I don't think I agree with that, dry food isn't superior to wet/raw food

I know many people on Instagram and Facebook groups who do raw and wet feeds, their dogs have the healthiest and shiniest coat. All that is needed is just for the raw food or meat to be well treated
