If you can't drive don't use that money to buy a car to start Uber, your first car driving experience is like going to war with a brand new boots only to get there and discover the desert doesn't respect new shoes.

You can still learn how to drive by going to driving school, then master your driving before attempting to buy a car, this will also allow you to evaluate if doing Uber job is really what you want, You need a strong mind to drive in Lagos, in my early 20s i drag road with Lagos drivers, It is better to start early and get used to it.

With N1m you can make your cash work for you, there are small businesses you can start like food business near campuses, you will be surprises with N1m investment in food business you could make N15k per day at N300 per plate for 50 customers. N15k X 28 days = N420,000 then minus expenses of about N210k then you have N200k+ profit. If you can't do more business inquiries or stick to TBills.

My problem is mainly low risk appetite. The issue is I can't drive myself. I don't know how to drive. I'm a visitor in Lagos. Those complicated Lagos road networks scare d hell outta me

It seems that STANBIC IBTC has the best rates among Nigerian Banks. Don't know how friendly they are to customers' instructions though.
Yesterday at least, Fidelity beat Stanbic for tenors closest to 364 days with rates including 13% for 360 days, 12.6% for 290 days and 12.5% for 332 days: https://comparedbest.com/ng/best-nigerian-treasury-bill-rates.html

Any Uber worthy car that you will get for 1.1 million will give you problems

Uber business is no longer profitable as it used to be. Buying and renting out a car will only aggravate your situation.

But if you insist on going on with the business, I will advise you to read the recommended thread. With Google maps, you can get anywhere in Lagos without having prior knowledge of the route.

Federal Govt Saving Bond
Minimum amount is 5k
Tenor
2 and 3 yrs
The interest is paid every quarter (i.e. every 3 months) into your bank account. At the end of the duration of the bond (i.e. the tenor), you are paid the initial amount you put in.

For example, if you subscribe with 1,000,000 Naira for 3 years and the interest rate is 12%, you will be paid 30,000 every three months (=12% of 1,000,000 = 120,000 Naira every year).

Note there are no charges - no VAT, no capital gains tax, no withholding tax - on the interest you are paid shocked. There are also no charges to pay to your stockbroker or the Federal Government in order to subscribe to the FGN Savings Bond.

Interest is paid every 3 months in a year

It is not advisable to be stating amounts on a public forum. It has been repeated several times on here. Please be cautious. You can make your point without that.

To your question, bonds tend to have higher yield because of their longer tenor. However, because it is difficult to predict what inflation will be over the course of the 10 or 20 or 30 years tenor, it just be might be better to invest in tbills (a year tenor) and keep rolling over. That way, you can always re-evaluate every year what makes sense.
Thanks for your comments. I mentioned the figure because I believe the advice you will give will be dependent on the figure available for investment. Thanks

[quote author=eniorisha post=82290952]Good evening, distinguished ladies & gentlemen! Pls I need your inputs & suggestions to make an informed decision about my investment life.

I av been investing in TBs for d past 3 years with my hard-saved money. The capital is approx N1.1m. Since my 3rd year till now I returned from my youth service, I av been living on d yield as my pocket money.

Now, 3 months after nysc, no job, no viable business opportunity with very minimal risk & I'm fed up with d meagre yield on my TB investment even in d face of decline in d rate & my full assumption of personal & a little of family responsibilities.

My tb will mature next month. I av d mind of diverting my investment to uber. I'll buy a uber worthy car & gv it to a driver to drive on my behalf as I'm a complete novice in driving & on roads drives. I know next to nothing about uber too.

So, I need your inputs, pls. How good or bad is my intention? Those who have idea about uber especially on average weekly return to d car owners shld help me with such information too.

Your suggestions & inputs will be well appreciated. [/quoted

Pls,do not do any mistake of giving ur car to Ubar rather, drive it urself and if u can't, pls go and learn driving.

The essence of some people remaining in the thread is to encourage others. Mentioning amount of money involved encourages some people especially me(when the amount is greater than what I have). Now can someone tell me the hazards involved in mentioning amounts in a faceless chat group like nairaland. What can they possibly do? Would love to know. Man know thyself. Meanwhile Forbes discloses people's worth yearly and it's safe, why the general fear. I want to learn as I disclose amount at the slightest enquiry.

Well, it's important to keep in mind that privacy is not as assured as you might think, despite Nairabeing "faceless" on the face of it cheesy

Most people have dropped markers as to their identity/location in one post or another in the past that they might not even remember. In addition, it is possible for a determined person to get in touch via the email feature and trace you by social engineering (more commonly referred to as catfishing) whether for the purpose of physical robbery or malware attacks or the like.

It might seem outlandish and very unlikely to happen, but when you're talking of certain amounts and even giving dates when you're getting those transfers into your account, the risk increases.

Things like that have happened before. And even if they haven't, is it ideal to set oneself up to be the victim?

Barry am with you on this one, like when @ahiboilandgas was reeling out his achievements, I was motivated. though I understand why its a little bit risky for the innocent minds here but not for street people like me. I will scam the scammer.

in other matters, pls how do they get to estimate this drop in inflation, abeg its a lie jor.....bureau of statistics just want to be relevant in the scheme of things. no drop in the price of any commodity in Nigeria. pls correct me if am wrong.

for long term, FG bond Is a terrible ideal, I'd advise you check into euro bond. In the past 20 years , naira has been devalued by 6049%

In 1999, one dollar was 5.5 naira, now it's 360. The percentage change is
360-5.5/5.5×100=6049%

For 20year there is a high chance that naira would have be devalued from 4000% to 8000%

For short term you can do treasury bill and watch for inflation.

Wow wow wow get in mate!

I love posts like this. You can't even debate this even if you wanted to because it's fact based. On current trajectory, the analysis is right unless some crazy turnaround happens in the country within that period. I'm trying not to use the word 'revolution'.

PS. Some folks complained about the erroneous 1999 rate, but your point is still well taken.

How can you be planning to start a business with 100% of your capital?

Please use your degree to go and get a teaching job now.
You clearly have very low risk appetite and a little laziness in you (like me.. Lol).

No need for heart attack from driver wahala.

The job will give you pocket money, while you can keep your investment growing with the interests.

NOW, if you are still interested in business, after getting the job,
Then use the next Tbills interest ONLY to learn about the business and start it PART-TIME.

FOR EXAMPLE:
you get 120k interest.
Use 25k to study/pay for training on Okirika business
Use 50k to buy a bail
Use 12k to pay advance for floor space (or sell ON-THE-GO)
use 8k to pay your salesperson first month salary... Lol...

Here is the catch... If s/he can't make enough profit in the first month, you will be able to pay s/he for the next 3 months without fear.

After THAT TIME you should know if you are going to continue to support the business from your job....
LOL...

Business no easy OH... Never use more that 50% of your capital to start a new business (especially in NIGERIA).

GOOD luck.

Location is important. It will be enough if you have genuine and certified builders handling the project.
Start with primary section. Never be in a rush. Besides you can even invest the money in any of the investment portfolio(Tbills, Bond e.t.c) while you still handling the primary section. also attend association of school owner meetings in your area you will learn so much.
