And the police believed him. Shows the Nigerian police is populated with stark illiterates.

Thats what happens when you leave Computer science graduates you are to recruit to tackle cyber crimes and you recruit people on man-know-man basis. Very soon they'll say they finally caught the Nigerian fraudster that designed facebook. grin

The guy actually mimicked a working online business model, selling books on amazon is a legit business, same with buying and reselling from alibaba. Payoneer is also a real thing, so guess he got greedy and didn't have the patience to let his Ecommerce business grow.

Don't worry, one day you will be paraded for nothing you know about and people seating in their houses would say "If he was innocent, he wouldn't be caught".

In the past three months alone, I have seen five cases of very innocent persons on Nairaland front page. They were paraded for various offences and later released after several court processes. If I didn't follow up on these cases, I would have been like you, thinking everyone that comes up in the news actually committed a crime.

You have a lot to learn about your country and the NPF.

Lol, I can't be paraded for something I didn't do cos I don't take criminal risks

I don't go close to such, if that's your lot....... Good luck!

Good job by the IRT team. If they didn't catch him, he probably would have been one of those running for Governor in 2023, claiming to be a successful businessman.
The desperation of Nigerians to get rich quick is nauseating.

You don't know me. My buisness have been directly affected by the negative perception of Nigerians as a result of the activities of these fraudsters. Even here on nairaland I have fought dirty with advocates of fraud. But I like being thorough. This whole claims of setting up payoneer and Amazon is a big insult on my intellect. If you know anything about ecomerce, and Amazon Kindle publishing, you will be riled up just like I am.

Having a registered business with physical goods is not a legal requirement for wealth. We can't continue to encourage this kind of archaic and obnoxious mentality. Which physical goods or office does Tunde Ednut or the anonymous multi millionaire owner of instablog9ja have? Which physical goods does Linda Ikeji sell, and before her recent venture into media production business, which registered company did she have? Come on.
Funny enough the guy is a nairalander

I hate cyber fraudsters but I have a feeling this guy is doing a legit buisness. He's an Amazon Kindle publisher and Amazon is a very protected site. No way he can set up a phishing site with a backlink to Amazon. He may have been tortured into admitting he set up "payoneer".
The guy will be walking home free if he gets a good lawyer. The illiteracy in our law enforcement rank and file is staggering. Most of them got into police with forged certificates.
There are irregularities in the news but that guy to me isnt innocent. With the story i understand what he did and how he did it unfortunately sharing the details here will give other thieves like him an idea. But for a tech person you should understand.

No matter how much you think you have hit it big through fraud, there's just that one day that a transaction becomes the trigger to investigations and subsequent arrest.

Not worth it on the long run.Now he's going to have the houses confiscated and go to prison.

Mheen! Now, Alibaba, amazon, payoneer will toughen their security system which will affect alot of innocent buyers. This is not a good news for us at all. If this story is true, this is not nice at all.
I doubt if amazon sells to Nigeria anyway. He doesnt receive payment on amazon. He directs potential victims to a cloned payoneer website to steal card information. It's Alibaba that would now get strict on dealings with Nigeria.

I totally agree with you...but take a minute to read the part where he said admitted that he was a fraudster. If the business is so legit, why send your goods to Ghana to be sold whereas your country has a ready made market? I think we should be lauding the police for good work done not knocks.
