Funny how we blame our leaders and don't look inward ourselves.

Nigerian people fight at BRT stops and blame Buhari

We destroy government properties and blame the government

We go out of the Country and act hostile to the host communities, and it's still our government

Several Countries are already weary of Nigerians, yet all we scream is the government.

I sincerely hope the school you are attending in Canada is government owned because it most likely is not.

There is a fundermental flaw in the mindset of a black man, especially the Nigerian black man. And the earlier we accept it and work on it the better.

Cheers and congrats on ur admission and migration.
Absolutely agree

Actually, this is not a fair comparison.

International students pay an average of 3million naira in Canada per year but Nigerian schools charge an average of say 100k. (Rough estimates)

It's called getting exactly what you pay for. Good class rooms, but it's no big deal.
And international students pay how much in Nigeria?
If you want to do comparison about things do it literally and not in a lane man's view.
Or you think we don't have int'l students in Nigeria? What is the quality of education they're getting compared to the money they're paying? If national students pays 100k/annum in 9ja and a parent have 3-4 children in tertiary schools how much does make to you? 300-400k. How much is his/her wages? 30k/month. Do the differential equation yourself and see what parents are going through training children minding the risk of no job after school. As a matter of fact that money is exclusive of feeding, accommodation, textbooks, hands out, off campus rent only to mention a few.
In the flip side, minimum wage in Canada and other countries is above 500k/month? And you can do 2-3 jobs or even more according to how your strength can take you, so, tell me, how can't you pay you children sch fee which is like a change compare to your salary(s). Besides, the amount you just mention is inclusive of both accommodation and other things where as national students pay far less. And their scholarship obeys the law of equality for everyone. A good job is guarantee after school, i.e for those who has PR or a GC. No fear of kidnapping or accident while travelling to school, health insurance is assure... So, think before you come up on sm before you open your mouth to talk.
All of these points and more are reasons our educational system is being devalued.
Pray for prosperity so you to can either travel abroad or send your kids for better education or to a good private varsity

your analysis is also wrong, Canada's economy gives the opportunity to work and earn wages that can pay that 3million naira equivalent school fees you are talking about. How many Nigerians can even pay the less than 100k naira school fees for Nigerian schools?

But you can't deny the effect that embezzlement and bad character has on our educational institutions.

A hall with enough seats and a lecturer who doesn't want to sleep with you or fail you because you do not belong to his tribe are not too much to ask even if your school fees are N20

By the way you shouldn't be comparing the fees of a international student with a home student in Nigeria, of course it will be more. You should rather quote the average Canadian home students fees. It will still be more but it's still important

And some places have free university because their taxes are utilised efficiently without too much embezzlement

Washrooms at my Uni are only cleaned once a day, not "several times a day" - usually in the evenings when classes are done for the day.

midnighter:
The toilets will still get messed up, the difference is that the toilet attendant will come and clean it several times a Day

Most toilet attendant staff here will not clean anything even if it's their job

Shoprite toilets are always clean, even though hundreds of people use them every day, that's because the toilet attendants are on hand and present inside the restroom

On second thoughts I do agree with you to an extent, we don't have good toilet culture in fact plenty of people have never seen one before or if they have, can't see the difference between that and the bush. Therefore they just mess anyhow

The Op seems to avoid those asking him how he got to Canada.. Well he is Nigerian after all
I have long known that elections and this kind of democracy can never save nigeria forget it those in power are enjoying the status quo if you make noise you will be silenced
If you truly want to migrate and work
1. Get needed skill/skills with certification (be very good in it)
2. Never use agents all the information you need is online
3. You need a lot of capital(in millions) and patience
4. Pray hard cos the pool of people you are going to be selected from matters alot.
5. MONEY MONEY MONEY

Modified: that your school doesn't do it doesn't mean other places don't do it, so I don't get your point.

Hey Guys,

So I had an appointment which made me come to school early today, after that I headed to my class, as I walked in tears dropped my eyes, the memories of how crazy my class was during my undergraduate in Naija just came to my mind.

Take a look at a class and washroom and see the difference in the garbage we have back home. A school with every amenities u could ever think of,, name it huh. But in 9ja all we do is to glorify politicians that are illiterate, incompetent, corrupt and clueless, imagine the kind of president we have in this 21st century coupled with the cabals, how do we move forward?

Let me not talk of TRIBALISM AND ETHNIC BIGOTRY sef.. Well I won't say much, I am happy I left and I am cool but winter will soon come shocked I will only think of Naija if I wanna come to see my Mum and siblings.

We need to do better in that country. Imagine a country with educated elites and see who is ruling us. And worst of it is that many Nigerian youths focus on irrelevant things probably scared of being picked up if they talk. If our government was responsible and accountable we would have had a better place.

Most times the weird and barbaric news I read here its saddening. It wasn't as bad as this when GEJ was in power but we won't accept the truth.

Say whatever u want to say but it doesn't concern me until I decide to come home briefly, I am only speaking for the good of all. angry

May God help Us.. Peace!
You people always blame the leaders for everything and that's the real problem.
Ask yourself, who voted for them, who rigged for them, who campaigned for them, who remained docile when they misbehave? Then you will realize we the masses are the real problem.
Not Until we realize that the power to change things reside with us, i mean the Nigerian people, and decide to change things, we will remain backward and things will continue to get worse.
Beyond the beautiful classroom are mirage of other pressing challenges you will face. Its only a matter of time. Other nationales remain in their countries to confront their challenges and surmount them but a typical African man especially Nigerians run away to other countries as a way to solve their problems, thinking that's the solution. How can that be? That mentality follows you everywhere. That's why you see them running from canada to US then to Australia then from one state to another within these countries.

I do not support PDP or APC. I do not even live in Nigeria. Since you decided to bring politics into your post, GEJ's era had oil selling for over $100 a barrel. There were lots of money to go round.
Same is happening in Alberta right now. There is hardship since the crash of oil.

Well I attended a federal university where we paid nearly next to nothing (some very "local" PRIMARY SCHOOLS charge as much as N20K per term which translate to N60K per year while my UNIVERSITY was charging less than N30K per year!), but our classrooms were air-conditioned (at least my faculty).

As far as I know, public education is the only free gift we're enjoying in Nigeria. The small fees we pay are just for formalities.
That's a proper utilisation of taxes, if people would just try and leave a little when they're stealing from the coffers it would help everybody more

Only went to polytechnic, so polytechnic is not school? No wonder all these youth are jobless, the day Nigeria know the importance of technical schools the day you guys get back to track.
It's a worldwide cultural problem that people see polytechnics as inferior... I think Germany is an exception, they value vocational education more

From this thread you will discover that there are demons among us that have started seeing the chains in their hands as bracelets. How can a sane person defend a thing very useless as Nigeria? to them Nigeria is very OK the way it is today, they will even come against you for trying to remove their chains by revolution forgetting that most countries with good standard of living have numerously revolted against their leaders. Nigeria is a shame but most Nigerians defending the status quo is a bigger shame.

This post is slightly misleading.

Op how much is your school fees let’s compare it with the classes in AUN .

Fee for fee
Structure for structure
Class for class.

Then the discussion will start.
Are you going to compare it fee for fee with an international student at AUN? That's the only way it will be fair because those schools always use international students to fund their courses and build their libraries...their international fees are always out of this world because the citizens there can't pay the money

what are u talking about,

Buhari withing four years borrowed three fold what pdp borrowed in sixteen years

Buhari removed fuel subsidies

introducing and increasing taxes

making mor money from custom

with single account blocking ghost workers

where's the money he's making from all this since the previous government is corrupt and this one is not even if oil is sold 6o naira with all the things i listed above we suppose to see some changes by now, mind u some of the contracts going on now are being done by Chinese government as part of borrowing so we hv to pay them later all that our government have to do is to provide lands to them and cut or remove taxes

that's why u c Chinese companies doing most of d contracts, because b4 they giv u money their companies must b the ones to execute the contracts

You just went to Canada in April, you are Telling the world about the Credulity of our "Rulers" Indeed they are credulous and evil

You will recover. Many Nigerians in Germany, USA, in London Europe and Canada have given up on Nigeria,
when i think of The torture of Sowore who returned as the Messiah and read comments on Nairaland and Facebook. I wish i could Tell Sowore to give up the thought of Helping Nigerian.
They actually love their oppressors.

I will ever respect his boldness among many conquered cowards in Nigeria
You have said it all.

Sowore is getting a raw deal

msjy stupid youths are cheering the govt
just imagine foolishness

Not defending the status quo but avoiding unfair comparisons. That things are bad does not mean we should exaggerate our problems or take on a defeatist attitude, that's what the people who colonised us want us to do
