I hate to be the guy, but Lagos is not a megacity. Yes, the potential is there. But as it stands, the state is retrogressing. Not quite befitting for the megacity description.

Attached is how a megacity looks and feels like.
You are ill informed, a mega city simply means a city state with a population in excess of 10 Million inhabitants, it does not even have anything to do with the level of infrastructures there, Lagos is a struggling mega city as it has many challenges to deal with, so you see, your pictures of New York Manhattan District is faux de parte

A megacity is defined SOLELY by size...
The ordinary (UN) definition is a city of 10 million or more.

Accordingly, Lagos is a megacity.

According to UN... Thanks for chipping that in.

Now I'm of the school of thought that a city with high population and matching infrastructure is what qualifies to be a megacity. So I'm not in the wrong.

No it's not. According to the a particular organisation UN, yes Lagos is a megacity.

But in other terms, Lagos only has the population but not matching infrastructure and therefore doesn't qualify as a megacity according to several other schools of thought.

The infrastructure part is irrelevant to ‘megacity’ classification...
Despite the colloquial manner some Lagos politicians (mis)use the term, population size is the SOLE criterion.

Every school of thought have their own criterion to determine a mega city. Population cannot be a sole criterion.

Criteria does not change plain English language meanings...
The English term ‘mega’ refers solely to QUANTITY and not to quality.
