I pity you that is what you get when you want to be more western than the westerners. You were given a syllabus but because you want to be preach same sex marriage you went overboard.

Same sex marriage or union is a offence in Nigeria punishable by imprisonment. In some culture it is punishable by death.

You did not even limit your foolishness to lagos where you can get away with it cos people will think you will get over your dementia easily but you took it to Zaria.

A word of advise for you; Read between the lines and your interactions with those folks, Quit that job; take cover and change environment.

Learn from history so you can go far in life.

Stop preaching and teaching young minds same sex nonsense; you are indeed very lucky that non of the parents assaulted you .

Iam editing the post as it seems the Op updated the post from when I first read it earlier, OP did actually teach the students about same sex marriage. But the insinuation that he could have been assaulted shows how babaric the north is.

Your article was great. An awesome read.
Please paragraph to help our eyes.

I feel whenever you're in Rome, you should act like a Roman.
The north is a volatile place; introducing LGBTQ was kinda a stretch, because of their overly religious practices.

Thank God you didn't spark a riot tho. grin

The OP is out of touch with reality, this is Nigeria, obey the laws, respect the values.
We have more pressing issues in the country.

You should not shy away from the fact that Ops post highlights how religion is keeping the North backward.

LGBT is not in any Nigerian textbook
The narrator went out of his way to discuss same sex marriage, not merely discuss but support.

Openly support communism as a teacher in an American classroom, if you wouldn't find yourself in detention?

Stop trying to defend the indefensible and read the write up properly

A female student stood up to defined marriage as a "union between a man and a woman". I asked the entire class to clap for her, given her very bold attempt. But to their bewilderment, I told the class that she was wrong after they were done clapping. Some of them even protested; inquiring why I adjuged her to be wrong.

The young girl gave the textbook definition of marriage and he told her she was wrong then went on to confuse the young minds with same sex marriage which is of no concern to them. He went off syllabus, confused young children and now he's trying to make it look like the northerners are intolerant because he's trying to "enlighten" them. Who sent him? I'm in Lagos, if any of my kids teachers fill my children's head with such garbage, I'll be in their school the next day to give him/her the lashing of their lives.

The op is not serious, how can you expose jss1 pupils to a criminal act. The principal should have reported you to the police...some people are writing nonsense, expose communism in an American school, and see what will happen.

He was not assaulted was he? Some Southerners could have assaulted him if their kids come home to tell them that they're being taught about same sex marriage. Is it not in the same south that gays are striped naked, beaten up and paraded on the street? That's not barbaric? We lynch petty thieves down south while the Northerners hand thieves over to the police. Let's remove the logs from our eyes before removing the specs from the eyes of others. Op be more careful. I stay in zaria too most a times. Close to ABU in Kongo. Be very careful with those kids.

They only let them know what they want them to know not what they should know. Its not brain washing, that's how their culture HV been watered over time. After my secondary school in sabo was in zaria while waiting for my Ssce result and I took up teaching to make time fast. It was there I realised why the north is the way it is. Those kids only know what there parents and leaders want them to know period. And if you go against that well, dead men tell no tales. And am sure some of the parents will still be looking out for you in town

I have 2 ages 6 and 8. I go to see their teachers whenever I spot errors in their works or attach notes to their books. When you have kids and they come home to tell you that their teacher is teaching them about same sex marriage instead of what's in the syllabus, feel free not to take it up.

It is clear you haven't lived in the North. I currently live in Zaria. They will lynch you for urinating close to their prayer ground. For the 4 years I have lived here, I have watched 3 thieves beaten to death, two thieves hands caught off based on sharia judgment, and I have seen a child rapist walk free. You were the one indirectly implying the northerners are barbaric while southerners are peaceful weren't you? If you live amongst northerners especially the educated ones, you'd see they're pretty calm and peaceful to live with. They have their own excesses but they're not as bad as the southern media likes to portray them

If your story is true, your definition of marriage was fantastic, but you went overboard telling them about the LGBT community. Not many parents want their children being introduced to such teachings at school or learning about same-sex practices as part of their curriculum.

I served in Taraba State. A very beautiful state that I will love to visit again someday. Infact, my pleasant experience in Taraba was a principal factor in my decision to pursue my Master's degree in a Northern University. I finally settled for the Prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

OP, you were absolutely wrong for teaching same sex marriage because it is never and will never be a valid marriage! Don't use ignorance to corrupt those kids just because you feel the world is accepting it, as acceptance doesn't means validity. Be wise.

On all grounds and from every perception...you were wrong!
1)You went overboard in teaching outside the syllabus (although slightly) on a topic that is both socio-culturally and constitutionally illegal in Nigeria.

2) You raped the minds of those kid by exposing them to dark knowledge that they should never have been exposed to at this stage of their lifes. kids always want to try and experiment on new things, they are easily swayed by new concepts and ideologies (its like teaching them about abortion and its benefits or teaching a primary 6 pupil the uses of a condom and how to get one) they are too young and will most likely abuse such information.

3) it's not about religion or region, any responsible parent will be concerned that their young kids are being exposed to such sensitive topics as same sex marriage at a tender and fragile age, it's only important(if necessary) for them to know these things at the senior secondary levels or within the concrete walls of a higher institution.

Lastly, Am Igbo and a Christian, born and breed in Zaria...i will not tolerate such from any teacher myself because this is what has plunged the western world into identity crisis! You find a man telling you he thinks he ought to have been a woman or how his sex organs do not define his sexuality. It all starts from an early intimacy with these dark and absurd ideologies...and in no distant time their minds become impregnated with strange foreign vices! It's awkward and against all our religious and cultural norms and values.

Well, Am running a masters degree in ABU too, zaria is not as extremist as you are painting it. Hit me up, maybe I will show you around, and wash away your zunubi' with a few holy bottles grin grin

The moment you see a comment from a well travelled and exposed person you can easily point him/her out.

Most of the comments saying all sorts of nonsense i.e "kafir" et al are the ones that never travel out of their localities and inexperienced in this scenario

Op, hook up with this guy/girl and you will learn a thing or two about the topic at hand

Infact the parents should have sued you for teaching what is against extant laws. Nonsense. I am sure any morally upright parent will definitely be concerned about what you did.
Is it same definition of marriage that you were taught when you were in primary school? It is your ilk that swallow everything the west teaches you while throwing off your cultural and religious values. Perhaps, one day you will teach your students that there is nothing like marriage.

I am even appalled that you are still basking in false sense of pride that you did the right thing.

Why would a sane man urinate close to someone prayer ground Do you even think before you type.
No religious person would take it lightly with you. it's animals that can do such.

The thieves that are killed rarely in the North are those that steal bikes. And it's because they always kill the bike riders to carry their bike

I grew up in Zaria. In my whole life I have never heard someone hand was cut off. Not even in Zaria but in the entire North.

One of the greatest past time in Nigeria is blame game. We always want to blame something for our problems, especially things we don't understand, things we despise and whatever our clique for the moment swings towards for the blame game.

If the North is that bad as you are trying to paint it, why haven't you gone back to your homelandgrin

All forms of homosexuality and same-sex sexual relationships/encounters are illegal in Nigeria.

The law criminalizes it, and the society itself disqualifies it. It's a Western concept we do not want. It's does not matter whether you are in the North, South or East.

Because I am from Nigeria and everywhere is my homeland. Secondly, because I have not seen someone disappear doesn't mean people don't disappear. This should clear your doubt
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-14858441

Thirdly, are you in support of taking a human beings life because they urinated close to a prayer ground? Then you are not different from a wild beast. Finally, on the issue of beating to death, this happened two years ago on a Friday around Danraka, Samaru. Also, the cutting of their fingers happened in Zaria City, I was there live and direct. Not hearsay. Infact one of the guys still come for ARV drugs where I work. Before, you say I am sentimental, this things still happen in the South apart from the lynching due to prayer ground urination.

Note: I don't give an f about religion whether christian, muslim, and tradition. I care about humanity and love towards one another. I was only trying to clarify the lady that these things happen
