let me hear word. There is no discrimination here but just obvious fact. If you were to select a team of basketball players to represent North America in an inter continental competition, where do you think most of the players will be seleted from? USA of course that's because they have a rich history in the game. Same can't be said of football. We all know exactly the region that produces most of the footballers in Nigeria. south east and south south. It's only a surprise to see the list full with yoruba and hausa names and considering the allegations of corruption levied against them before the competition commenced, It's just normal to raise an eyebrow. All of a sudden the south east and south south no long dominate soccer in Nigeria. We all have our strength as a Nation, we should exploit them instead of trying to fix round pegs in square holes. I repeat, if the selection process was transparent there is no way that list will be completely dominated by Yoruba and Hausa names in a game that we have seen the Igbos produce most of the talents. You can call me whatever you wish, that doesn't change a thing. Enjoy!!!

Have you heard of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Hakeem Olajuwon?

Where are they from? How come dey dominated the game eventhough they are not natives of USA?

This alone has rubbished your ethnocentric believe that a particular group is more talented than others. The only difference is OPPORTUNITY. That's all.

What annoyed me most in the match yesterday was the long passes. Those passes were either over hit or misplaced yet they kept doing that for a very large part of the game especially the first half. You only do long passes if the opponent is better with the ball possession. They should pass the ball and work their way to the opponent goal post. Those long passes were wasted and no single goal came out of it. The same thing was experienced in the first match.

They should avoid show boating... Many times they held onto the ball for too long trying to force their way in when it was better to pass..... That what's makes it teamwork. They should learn to play more together than depending on solo efforts.

They also need to make use of the wings so much. With their pace and energy they should resort to wing play especially when the middle is tough to penetrate.

Let the coach curb those excesses and they will be good to go.

How do you know those chosen are the exceptional, considering the selections were marred with corruption? How do you know there weren't exceptional players dropped for the good because they didn't know the right people or paid the right amount?

Then that is a different issue. My own is that God gives talent and it could come from anywhere

Arsenal to offer £50m plus Xhaka for Ndidi

Following Wilfred Ndidi’s outstanding performance for Leicester City in the Foxes 9-0 annihilation of Southampton on Friday night, Arsenal fans have expressed their admiration for the super eagles’ defensive midfielder, hence, urging their club to sign him.

Youri Tielemans, Ben Chilwell, Jamie Vardy, Ayoze Perez, and James Maddison were all excellent for the Midlands side, but one player that caught the attention of Arsenal fans was the Nigerian international.

However, Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to call for the Gunners’ board to sign the 22-year-old in the near future.

A Twitter user with the name Walt Banger urged the Arsenal board to sign Ndidi.

“Give them Ozil and Xhaka and see what happens. We can take Madison and Ndidi”, he wrote.

“Would love to have Ndidi and Maddison at Arsenal,” another Arsenal fan Afcbreezy stated.

Paul Arsenal simply wrote, “Arsenal I hope we are watching Ndidi.

Guccini tweeted, “Xhaka + £50mill for Ndidi @Arsenal.”

“Arsenal needs to get Ndidi in next season,” Meroe added.

Ndidi, who had 8.46 whoscored.com rating against the Saints on Friday night, has been a mainstay in Brendan Rogers’ team this season totaling 10 appearances for Leicester City scoring 2 goals in the process.

Lastly, the Super Eagles technical adviser Gernot Rohr will be banking on him to replicate his impressive form on the international stage as the Nigerian team prepares for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Republic of Benin and Lesotho in November.

Fat lie. Who told you SE doesn't produce academicians? Who told you SW doesn't produce best athletics and politicians? Who told you the North is not in the equation? I am sorry to say that this is the height of ignorance. You can do better than this.

There is no fact that even justify your claim that SE produces best athletics going by the fact on ground but just prejudice.

What is your definition of holding forth for one ethnic group?

I hope you have not confused fighting for justice and equality as ethnocentrism?

jshebi if you read that paragraph completely, you would have seen where i wrote that "nobody is saying there are no exceptions"

You will just rush to quote and post without proper reading, even less comprehension.
safarigirl:

There is nothing wrong with being ethnocentric.

Virtually every Nigerian is ethnocentric, accusing someone of being ethnocentric is not scandalous, it is fine, it is advised and it should be promoted. If the entire black race had all the confidence in their race, black people would not be bottom of the barrel.

An ethnocentrist is not a tribalist. Believing one's ethnicity is superior in certain climes, is not a crime.

It is common knowledge in Nigeria that the SE and SS produces the best athletes, the West produces academicians and the North, politicians. There is nothing wrong in saying these as facts, nobody is saying there aren't exceptions, but everybody knows their lane in this country, and we should not come here and suddenly act ignorant of the status to seem self-righteous

Forgiveness, you are the last person to be shouting about ethnocentrism because you and Omanbala hold the forte quite well for your ethnic groups on this thread.

Oga, let's stop all these tribal accusations.

I don't think you guys know the weight of responsibility on these coaches. Why would they want to chose their tribes men as players at the expense of their jobs? Think about that.

Even though some of us expect a kind of balance in the ethnic composition of our national teams, sometimes they are balanced and at other times they are not.

Yes, a coach might chose a couple of players based on certain sentiments which could be ethnic, religious, political, economic etc. But be rest assured that the majority of players especially the key men in the team will be selected based on merit.

For those accusing Manu of ethnic or religious biase look at his 2013 team. Is it not the team that produced likes of Iheanacho, Nwakali, Mathew, Ndidi, Ezeh, Nwobodo, Obasi, Uzoho, Okon, Just from off my head.

How can we come in 2019 and accuse same man of ethnic or regional biase?

And even for those accusing Amuneke of same in 2015, things like this happen where most of the best players that emerge will just spring up from a certain region which was the case in 2015 and now in 2019.

Do you know there was no Yoruba player in Fani Amun's 1993 Golden Eaglets team?

Do you also know there were not more than one or two Igbos in Yemi Tela's 2007 Golden Eaglets?

But sometimes too, we have a mix of ethnicities like the John Obu's era of U17 and U20s.

Things like these happen. It switches sides and then balances again. But the most important thing is that they are all representing Nigeria and we have to support every of our teams irrespective of the ethnic composition.

Your post just made so much sense and I think we all should take a cue from here and move on. We can't keep wallowing in this unhealthy Ethnic discussion. Las las we all have one common goal. Let's discuss the way forward for the team.

Super Eagles Duo Star In League Cup Win For Bordeaux
Published: October 30, 2019

Super Eagles Duo Star In League Cup Win For BordeauxSuper Eagles attackers, Joshua Maja and Samuel Kalu combined brilliantly for their Ligue 1 club Bordeaux in a French Coupe De La Ligue victory over Dijon on Tuesday evening.

With the game just eight minutes old at the Stade Matmut-Atlantique, Samuel set up his compatriot with an in swinging cross from the right channel which the striker glanced home for the opener.

It was Maja's second goal in all competitions this season, and his first since scoring in a 1-1 draw against Montpellier back in August.

The result ensured Paulo Sousa's team ended their two-game winless run as they prepare to take on Nantes in their crucial topflight game on Sunday.

Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr will undoubtedly be pleased with such decisive and telepathic combination between the two even as he prepares his squad list for next month's AFCON qualifiers.

he is right sha... save for few from the south west region....
the south south particularly Edo and Delta state have produced more footballers from the south south region....

you have
Kanu
Okocha
Victor Ikpeba
Amuneke
Yakubu
Aghahowa
Victor Moses
Mikel
and lots more...

south west have produced too...but of a truth they can't match the south east when it comes to football talents so far Nigeria have produced

The SE and SS have produced more football talent because their cultural values allows and tt's not because they are naturally more talented than others. Unlike the other regions who are either restricted by their cultural values or religion. Fact.

How many of these players won or were nominated for African footballer of the year or even won individual lauels in European league?

Asides, Kanu, Okocha, Victor Ikpeba, Amunike, Mikel, West, Enyeama and Sunday Oliseh......who made the top three, who else?

Do you know Odegbami made the top three twice and was runner up at one point even before any from those regions ever dreamt of any nomination?

Rashid Yekini won it. Emmanuel Adebayor won it.

Even Daniel Amokachi from the North made the top three on two or three occasions.

This is despite the fact that most footballers allowed to play for Nigeria came from these regions (SS/SE)

If we draw up first 11 from SS/SE against other regions, you will realised you are wrong.

Go and find out about the selection process for this team.

On the issue of scouting of players for the team who are expected to play their first qualifiers in April, the coach said he has done most of what he need to do, hence they won’t be any need for open screening like he has always done in time past.

Our first qualifiers is in April, hence we don’t have enough time to conduct an open screening. If you throw the gate open, you will say over 2,000 players in attendance. It’s not a bad idea, it has worked for us before but now we don’t have time.

As a team we have pencilled down players who will begin the commencement of training. I have been very busy touring Nigeria for eligible players, my assistants have also done their own bit. So we will harmonise our list before we start training hopefully later this month”, the coach concluded.

Source: http://owngoalnigeria.com/2018/02/15/manu-garba-speaks-on-chances-of-nigerian-players-born-abroad-making-his-u17-team-open-screening/

Like you see, there was a deviation in our working way and selection process that brought us impressive success which I put the blame on Amaju Pinnick. Very disappointing and I hope never happens again.

At the risk of being called a bigot, let me speak my mind.

To be honest, I was disgusted once I saw this U-17 team list. CLEARLY HEAVILY POLITICIZED. There is no way we can have such a huge percentage of Northern origin players if the screening was free and fair. How many football academies are in the North?. In the Southeast and west we have the likes of Diamond Football academy, Taye academy and other illustrious institutions that have produced us good players at this level.

When they announced there will be no open screening I smelt a rat. Now Mallam Garuba is showing us the stuff he is made of.

I only feel pity for the myriads of talented players that have missed out on this opportunity simply because they came from the wrong tribe and religion. SMH!

Villarreal left-back Alberto Moreno has revealed that Super Eagles star Samuel Chukwueze reminds him of his former Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane.

Moreno who played seven years at Liverpool was teammates with Senegalese forward Mane.

Now at Villarreal, the 27-old left back has used his former teammate Mane to pay compliment to his current teammate Chukwueze.

“Chukwueze is very good. I followed him last year because I had him in the Comunio (football manager) and he gave me many points,” Moreno told AS.

“That’s why I started following him again. He is a super incisive player, fast, you don’t know where he is going to go out, and he is very strong, precise in his play. He has everything.

“He reminds me a lot of Sadio Mane. I have seen them both in training and I can tell you that he reminds me a lot of him.”

Chukwueze broke out last season at Villarreal and scored nine goals in all competition in his debut season.

He hasn’t been explosive this season as expected but has managed two goals so far.

We can always improve but that should not discredit the players on ground who have shown magnificent passion for their country. There are mega talented children who don't even know academies exist talk less of having money to make it to those screenings.

I feel need even a more comprehensive process but what we had this time was totally off our screening process.
