Mr, you are likely not Nigerian. I watched an online program with a Ghanaian minister. Going by all he said if Nigeria decides to close its border for a longer period, the economy of many Ecowas members will collapse. Do you folks think in terms of numbers. A 200 million market surrounded by countries with population of 8 to 30 million. The minister said certain Ghanaian products are only good for Nigerian markets because our standards lower than say Asian countries or Europe. This is not about chest beating or anything of sort. The entire Ecowas market is sustained by "standardless" Nigerian economic system. Demanding high standard products will have a huge impacts in terms of cost to these Ecowas countries, not to talk of totally closing land borders. Other Ecowas countries are lucky that Nigeria have always been "blessed" with dumb leaders.

truth is that most nigerians are new to the internet and react newly to things that has been happening for ages!
it pains some people when they see the Christians celebrate heavily at yuletide season, one way to stop this is to instill hardship by closing the borders....

as earlier mentioned, argue with your talisman grin

And the foolish Nigerian introduces religion to the issue

Unfortunately, her type of opinion is quite popular among Nigerians, even within the intellectual community.

Many people have become sociopathic without any regard to human suffering all under the assumption that irrational suffering can somehow transform to good life after some years a la China.

Almost all the comments concerning borders closure focus attention on rice and nothing else. Should everything be about stomach?
I remember Fela's record, "Jęun koku."
Intelligent and thinking people would have looked at the positive sides of this policy if there are any and at the same time highlight temporary hardships the policy may impose on the citizens.
It is unfortunate that some people are
checking their blood pressure on 3rd November because of what they will eat on Christmas day (25th December ).
Haha!

Since the borders were shut how many people have died of hunger?

Stop blackmailing the government.

Don't mind that noise maker. To eat rice no be by force
Nigerians are already losing interest in rice to face other Naija delicacies.

The demand for rice will soon go down
Re: Nigerian Government to Open Borders Next January by jamad1612: 2:31pm On Nov 03, 2019
Am sure u know that even when the borders are closed, it doesn't mean it security will be left in d open. So, FG still has to pay them for manning d borders. I agree they've not bn doing their work, not because they don't know their work but bcuz they've bn compromised like many other Nigerians.

id911:
You close borders but you continue to pay custom their salaries and the CG Of Custom, whose duty is to check smuggling along the borders, has not been sack. Why not disband the Nigerian Custom Service since they have failed in their duties to police the borders and close the borders indefinitely? Using archaic method to solve contemporary problems can't solve anything but will rather aggravate it.
Very useless Government

Haha!

That should signal to you that the situation in the country is at the most critical stage.

When all the majority of the people think about is nothing but how to survive - where their next meal is coming from - it should indicate peril to any deep thinker.

The focus on provisions for 25th of December and the festive period is because it is, perhaps, the only time that a lot of people look foreward to for succour amidst failures and disappointments of the past years as a result of the economic downturn.

That is how human mind is wired. The mind begins to search for the faintest ray of hope for assurance when survival is being threatened. That is why Maslow put food at the base of all human needs.

If they can't eat rice daily because of cost prohibitions, they can at least make provisions for only Christmas day as advised by some "cut your coat according to your size" advocates.

Unfortunately, it is looking like the Christmas day rice is being threatened too.
