Saw this on Visajourney so i thought i should share since it's a recurring issue here:

Post by K1 beneficiary:

Hello everyone, I recently booked my interview appointment at the US embassy in Lagos Nigeria on 16th October hoping to get an earlier date before my approved I-129f becomes invalid which is going to be December 5th, unfortunately, the earliest date I got happened to be December 18th which means my approved case would have become invalid by then.

i wrote the embassy requesting for an expedite date or a validity extension and here is their reply...

We advise you should attend your interview appointment as scheduled. During your interview, you should present documents/evidence to the Consular officer to show that you qualify and justify why the petition should be extended. In order to qualify for a K-1 visa, the beneficiary/applicant must convince the Consular officer that he or she has a bona fide spousal relationship with the petitioner. The decision to extend the validity of the petition will be at the discretion of the interviewing officer. However, if you are unprepared for this interview it is not likely the petition will be extended.

So guys.....if your interview is outside your validity.....make sure you are prepared for the interview. Go with every or any document that will prove your case. Think outside the box. Go with primary and secondary evidence. You don't want them asking for a document and you having to tell them it is at home.

Success to everyone.

Really? Are you sure? No appointment was needed during my time. You just need to go there early in the morning, drop your name with the security men and your name will be called on a first come first served basis.

So unless this is a recent development, then I doubt it.

Hope you are not confusing the US Visa Applicant with the Canadian Visa Applicants there? Those applying for Canadian Visa need to schedule appointment with Qlife but US Visa applicant don't....unless the rule changed this Month. The Clinic in Abuja however needs appointment for US Visa applicant.

I thought the same too, maybe they just decided to be crazy on that day,so in my case,I just went there the day before my medicals to see things for myself and cos I’m not familiar with Lagos,I wanted to know the place so I’m not looking for it the next day and when I got there in the evening,I asked the lady at the counter and she said and I quote ‘you have to book an appointment for your screening’ and I was like that’s not what I read online and she told me that the next available appointment is 10am tomorrow so I got there around after 9 and they asked me if I have an appointment and I asked them if it was necessary, they said yes, ‘we can’t screen you if you don’t have an appointment’ I just told them my name, they checked a paper and Asked me to take a sit.

Thanks everyone that assisted me.
I called the Embassy, I was told that the expiration date on the petition means that one must secured an interview date before the expiration date, that it doesn't mean that one must be interviewed before that date.
If anyone didn't secure any date before the expiration, the approval becomes invalid.

The Embassy also gave me CGI to call for correction of the mismatch between my Ds-160 form barcode and my appointment confirmation code. The CGI also corrected it and sent it to my mail of which I have printed.

Pls @studyforlife i have similar issue,i was able to see dates january 6th 2020 for my interview while my approved petition expires 21 dec,all effort to get dec dates proved abortive,i have written the embassy in lagos as regards this and was told would get a response in 5/7working days, pls can u give more indepth clarification as per what they told when u called ,that one must secure a date before expiration of petition and not necessary one to be interviewed before the date, pls shed more light as am worried and line to call@the embassy..thank you

Hey guys, so it turns out my fiancée will be going on deployment come the 18th of this month, meanwhile our case is still at the NVC even after they said it has passed their administrative process. Now they encouraged my fiancée to call the embassy and explain the situation to them as she won’t be available to send me her paystubs for November and December, plus our case will expire on the 26th of January.

My question is, is there a number i can call? Because we’ve sent an email over 5days ago and no response yet. @Legitbachelor @Sukey @Sharpman1 @drenimarcus and others i couldn’t mention.FYI pleasee

Had my interview today

Got to the embassy at 5:30 am for my 7:30am appointment ,heard everyone including the security talking about the new fees of 40700 once your visa is approved and no one could explain what visa category needed to make that payment ,so I had to rush back to the hotel and got my atm to withdraw from the bank ,the guys outside were helping people for early interview withdraw and charged 1k.When I got back did normal security checks given number 14.

Went into the main building, submitted documents at window 16 submitted appointment letter ,Ds160,medicals,police report, tax return,w2,paystub,birth certificate ,gave me back some evidence my fiancee submitted to uscis and told to sit and wait for my number, there are seats for immigrants to sit and the non immigrants stand.

There were only 2 officers to interview immmigrants and they were approving people ,by 9am i was called to window 17.

He asked :
my relationship with my petitioner
How we met
When we met
How many visits
Dates
Why not marry in Nigeria ,didn't ask to see any document ,then he gave me 2 papers one for my rights in america and one circled where to pick up passport and visa would be ready in 2 weeks .

Pls my brother what was the response you gave to the CO when asked why not marry in Nigeria?or do you know the best kind of response to this question?thank you

Legit bro, did your status of your I145 change before the ead? I meant was it on fingerprint review completed before the ead came in?

Legit Bro,

Please how is the adjustment of status documentation packaged? Do we have to fill and submit form I-765 along with the I-485 and other docs (affidavit of support and vaccination doc etc)? This is because i read that employment authorization card comes sometime during the wait period for green card and i read again that you can separately aaply for Employment authorization within the 90 days of landing....a bit confusing bro...please help throw more light...

I didn't see this info on the link you said Drenimarcus posted, detailing the Adjustment of Status process....

Yes the Embassy told me that the validity dates on the petition form is for securing an interview date. One must ensured that he or she secured an appointment while the petition is still valid. If ur petition form expired on 21st Dec 2019 , and it happens that you secured an interview date 20th of January 2020 on 22nd of Dec 2019 , it will be invalid cuz it was secured after the validity of ur approved petition.

I got a response from the Embassy today.
Their response is smiliar to what sharpman posted.

That their advise is that I should attend my interview as scheduled. During my interview, I have to present documents/evidence to the consular officer to show that I am qualified and justify for my petition to be extended.

In order for me to qualify for K1 visa, I must convinced the CO that my relationship with my fiancee is a bona fide one.

The decision for my petition to be extended be will be at the discretion of the CO

That I must be prepared, if I am not prepared for the interview, is unlikely that the CO will extend the petition..

My people that's their response

Actually, you need to book an appointment contrary to popular opinion,I had to go there a day to my medicals in my case but you can always call them but they’ll most likely send you back if you don’t have an appointment cos they brought out a paper of the people that were booked for that day on the day I went for my medicals
. I read something like that on their website that an appointment will be needed.I asked just to be sure cos I will be annoyed if I have to travel to Lagos for the medical exam and they will be saying something else.

That's what I was told not to worry.
Since the day you got a slot was on 5th of Nov, (as of 5th of Nov, your petition has not expired, that's what made it valid.

Had it been the calendar was closed till 21st of Dec 2019, and was opened on 22nd of Dec 2019, let say you picked 6th of January 2020 on that 22nd of Dec that the calendar was opened, then it means u picked an appointment date after your petition date has expired., that's what will make it invalid.

The way it is now, one has only one opportunity to proof he or she is qualified to get the visa at the interview day, cuz we can't reapply for an interview after this, unless the Consular officer extend the expiration of the petition form ( from what I understood, [ I stand to be corrected]

I dont knw if you understood it now? This was the way the Embassy explained it to me when I called them.
