A lot of people think they are too old to start programming while others think they are too small when asked to learn to code

The Question is, AT WHAT AGE DID YOU STARTED PROGRAMMING? you could mention your first tech, how it went then and your experience now.

Let's inspire one another

At the age of 24.

My stack is java and and android currently learning Java EE after which I will embrace spring framework.


But I am jobless with the skill I have. I have attended interviews no feedback yet. My laptop got spoiled no money to get another one.

I started at age 18 precisely and from then I have been coding and improving.

Now a master at my own game(web dev)
Stack: Back-end
Language: PHP

16, now 21

I started off with java at 15. My first love was Andriod dev. But my 1gb ram lappy couldn't run Andriod Studio. I had no direction then, I jumped from php to c++ to Javafx framework. Nothing to show for it apart from command line based apps.
I ported to python.
Am 18 now. And I use django framework.
Stack is HTML, CSS, Js, python.

I learnt nearly half of that with my Mobile phone and I built my first django powered app with my mobile phone. See screenshot below.
Some guys won't just do their due diligence. You mobile phone is a s powerful as your PC.
Why do you think it is called a mini computer?
I know of a guy who built a chat bot with his Andriod. I mean an A.I chat bot just like JARVIS but a mini version of it.
PS am not saying having a system is not important. Of course there are some limitations of a mobile phone. The only problem I have is with people who have Mobile phone but keep giving excuses of not starting to learn programming due to not having a system.

Android

at first it was difficult cos Android studio is heavy and can discourage some but after few months, it was well.

I started at 15 but was very lazy. 6 years later, i have average knowledge of python, java and c++ with a little html knowledge.


If i was more disciplined and consistent, i could have learnt 10 languages by now

Learn 10 languages in 4 years
You won't even be able to do great stuffs with any.

No wonder you became lazy, you were learning boring languages you were not gonna use.

How I wish you realize that programming languages are similar to spoken languages, how does it make sense to learn many languages by just doing nothing.

Most people who are conversant with many languages was because it was important to them at one point in their live, either they lived in a new location or they were gonna work with some new people who communicate with another language.
Only mis-orientation would make some learn multiple languages locked in a room

Advice
Start learning how to solve problems, learn a new language if it only becomes necessary.

Started at a relatively young age <17

started with the usual HTML,css,basic JavaScript, and PHP. During which I created a web application which enable CBT test to be written online but couldn't deploy it.

But currently am loving Java and developing Android apps.

What is limiting me is no laptop.
Everything I have done is via my phone.

Mods please help this thread.

Languages are tools to solve a problem. Learn how to solve the problem first and pick the took that best fits.

Exactly.
Some people actually feel that becoming a professional in programming is about dancing around different languages.

Without solving a real world problem with a certain programming language, the one who is conversant with 10 languages is not better than a person who cannot code.

Application is all that matters not the number of programming languages you know.

So far I am Master in HTML, CSS, PHP, JAVASCRIPT. Currently learning React , ReactNative, Flutter and Laravel cos I have a dream to travel out someday and this skills are in top demand.


Focus on easy language to help you write your code very short.

For example ReactNative enable you to write your app in Android and iOS at once. This help you to cut cost of employing Android developer and iOS developer. Example Instagram, Facebook Messager.

But Google came out with Flutter... Another monster you just write your code for Android and iOS ( I think also for Destop App) at once which enable developer to write faster code without needs to be switching view in ReactNative or Trying to Re-arrange your code when there is new version of ReactNative.

Follow the trend to eat. and also have your own personal project.. that one is the big jack pot if you succeed.
