What is that moment that made you realise that you are now an adult or you have reached the age to do something important.

Mine was when I came home during my second year 1st semester holiday.

I was trying to sneak of at night to go and watch champions league when my dad just said "If you're going to watch ball, you should take the front door key so you will not didturb us when you get back". I was beyond shocked.

1) We attend deeper life
2) My father is a church worker, not just any worker oh but head usher.
As I dey waka I just dey feel like one lord.

The next holiday was when my Mom stopped calling me to come and take my food from the kitchen.

So Now I visited my elder brother's wife last week and I noticed she has stopped calling me just by my name, she always adds uncle and she now greets me if I did not see her first. Na now I know say I suppose go marry oh, but the money never dey.

I was 17 then, after attempting JAMB and didn't get the Post-UTME cut off mark I got a Sales Rep. Job in a Pharmacy...

When first salary came it was N15,000 then. I shared it and gave my aunt whom I lived with N5,000 for Pocket money, bought foodstuffs and toiletries for the house.

Guess what, the Sunday that followed, She legit gave me her lipstick and eye Pencil to do make Up for Church grin

By the end of the second month, I noticed that even my cousins who were older would seek my consent before going to Watch ball. If I had gone out, my aunt called me to tell me what they intend cooking for Dinner or asked me what I wanted to eat..

Till today, even when I am broke to stupor I will just package myself so that nobody will know I am leaking tongue
I did not only come off Age, I brought Self Respect along..

When my mum served me rice and stew in TWO DIFFERENT PLATES- You know this was usually reserved for visitors and the head of the house.

She put more than one meat and proceeded to ask if I will take water or juice. In fact, I can have both grin.

I was like "oboy! Try get work o. Make them stop to ask if all the food you have been eating in THIS HOUSE is manna..."

When a girl visited me and we sat under the staircase... My mum sent my younger brother to call me in and ensure I show up with the girl. I was already sweating on my palms till we got there and she said.

Why were you seating there? Are these not sofas? They all left me and my friend there and went to the room.

I was like... Is this really happening? On Sunday I tried her and said, I'll be going to see my friend again today after church. My mom said, nope you'll go after you've changed this Babariga you're wearing. grin you don't want to go there and be looking like a village clown.

I was 16+

The day I made myself the 3rd parent. No waiting for parents to come home, I pronounce you guilt and allocate the appropriate punishment.

I like your mum's style- open parenting. Allow them bring their friends home, that way you can see who they are associating with and instill some fear factor or sense of responsibility in those friends. Works sometimes...

Reminds me of a guy that came to check on me way back. We attended same church. Dude saw my mum and didn't know when he said he came to collect WAEC past questions. My mum had to remind him, he is in the university. That is before letting him in though. cheesy

This is one important mark of a grown up. Anybody who does this in my presence, Be it adult, teen or minor earns my respect there and then because, It very unlikely and IMPOSSIBLE for a dummy to tune in and listen to the news.

Fellas, if you bring a girl home and she puts on the TV and willingly tune to the news channel and start listening in, please go see that girl's parents the next weekend for marriage plans.

Like most other stories shared, mine is also related to money

Ever since I started giving my mom allowances monthly, I'm now given fatherly respect.

Once money comes, you'll automatically come off age in Africa.

So in all your getting, get money.

After treatment of malaria in a clinic,I was waiting for my mom to pay for the medical bills as usual only for her to tell me to go and pay it by myself. It was then it dawned on me that I have come to age to take certain responsibilities. This happened after my graduation...I had to run off to go and hustle... Samfloxin

Mine was when I made my then landlord's wife moan for me.
She was 46 and I was only 18.
There and then, I knew I had come of age.
