You don't need a huge capital to buy fgn bonds (not fgn savings bond)as earlier suggested.

Here's what I got back from stanbic.

Dear Sir,

We would like to thank you for your interest in Stanbic IBTC Stockbrokers Limited (‘’Stanbic IBTC Stockbrokers”). Please find below a brief introduction to our organization.

Stanbic IBTC Stockbrokers Limited (SISL) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Stanbic IBTC Holding Plc., and a member of The Standard Bank Group, set up to provide world class stockbroking services to local as well as foreign investors in the Nigerian Capital Market. We are currently the largest stockbroking house in Nigeria with a market share of 19.38% of the value of shares traded on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange based on 2018 trading results. We have also successfully acted as the stockbroker to major primary market transactions in Nigeria.

SISL is also an approved Market Maker of a basket of listed equities on The Nigerian Stock Exchange and the Government Stockbroker to Federal Government Bonds. We are currently promoting Retail Bond trading on floors of The NSE.

A stockbroking account will be opened once you fill all the relevant forms and provide the supporting documents. Please note that the minimum amount required to open a Stock broking account with us is N5million (five million naira) which can be a cheque, transfer of shares already resident with other stock broking firms or a combination of the two. Stanbic IBTC Stockbrokers would then act as stockbroker, the agent on the Exchange, to deal in the stocks selected by the investor while the minimum amount to open a stockbroking account with us for the purpose of FGN bond is N100,000

.

We also offer an on-line dealing service, which enables clients view account details and would also be able to provide e-mail confirmations whenever transactions are executed. With our robust software, you are guaranteed on-line access to your account, which would facilitate easier placing of orders, monitoring of account and review of transaction history.

The under listed items are required to accompany the Completed Individual Account Opening Form:

Means of Identification (National ID card, Permanent Voters card, International Passport or a valid Driver’s license)- the original ID should be sighted at any of our bank branch near you or notarized by a notary public if you reside outside the country.
Passport Photograph
Proof of Address (Copy of a recent utility bill in your name) – the original utility bill should be sighted at any of our bank branch near you or notarized by a notary public if you reside outside the country.
Completed copy of the attached DCS form

Please find below bond quote for the available FGN bond as requested.

They called that 100k a fee. When u are done with account opening, another story of minimum amount to buy bond will come up. Ask them if u can buy bond with that N100k.

Please you first have to create an account with them. But before the account can be opened, you also need a resident permit from with their immigration service.

You don't need to open any special account to purchase fgn bond (secondary market) from Stanbic. Open the normal current or savings account and any time you want to buy the bond, send a mail to your account officer indicating the tenor you want. He would forward the coupon and yield of the available tenors to you to consider. Your account will be debited accordingly. I have been doing this for some time

You can call stanbic to confirm if it's possible. What I said is that my account was debited for the transaction and 'Confirmation of Bond Trade' sent to me. Meanwhile I have received the payment for the first 6 month

Why dont u find out yourself instead of being pessimistic.

I saw what @Nigsrdumb posted. i was in doubt, so i put a call across. I was even told categorically that the 100k is for fgn bond. They even told me the ones available and none of them was a savings bond. some over 10 years sef. Stanbic Stock brokers, being the largest stock broker is too big to confiuse people or lie about the 100k.

what they do is pool fund together. That's why the account opening is different from that for shares.

[qplease i will also like to have a read through of your reply to the DPM enquiry.. uote author=ukay2 post=84251224]

Please don't invest with this bond.
It's expensive.....just look at brokerage fee of 1% instead of 0.05% with stanbic ibtc bank itself ....these brokers de make money. ....

Use stanbic ibtc bank. ...

Moreover I have responded to your DPM for other enquiries. [/quote]

Hi guys!
I haven't been chanced to go to the Bank but my T-bills transaction failed the last time primary market auction was held and I was credited back but two days, I got debited again without filling the form or authorise any transaction for the same amount and same tenor for the next primary market auction.
Is the Normal or I need to go to the back to fight the guy in charge of T-bills at the branch I went to.

If you don't want it, go to the "back" and tell them to cancel it.

You guys are mistaking FG savings bond with FG bond.

You need 5k to buy FG Savings bond, but you need from N50 million to buy FG bond. It used to be N100 million in the past.
But some Stockbrokers firms or Investment houses will accept N20 million for secondary market purchases

With 5k you can buy FG savings bond, from the bank.

FG bond can be bought from Stanbic IBTC Stockbrokers and other investment houses and you will need about N20 million

But it was stanbic stock brokers that sent me the email , I expressly stated fg bonds and not fgn savings bonds.

How do we know the difference, is there a ticker or some sort of differential equation?

Please first of all open the stockbroking account with them, you can buy the bond after the account most have been opened and it is not 100k.
