Alright. I'm already on it. Have masters already, certifications is my next agenda for 2020
That's sweet... Also, have you ever considered learning a foreign language?
It depends on your career though.

Because when you hear a Nigerian graduate tell you that she or he is looking for a good job, all he or she want is a job where he or she will be pressing computer and be receiving like 300k salary every month, then you will see him or her rushing to give big testimony in Church of how God has blessed him or her with good job angry angry

I hired a guy, his job role clearly defined he has nothing to do with computer, few months later, he Emailed me requesting that he would love to be transferred to computer department, what nonsense is that angry angry angry

Is this computer department different from the one I do? Because I think I even enjoy doing the pipeline corrosion engineering than the computer thing. Though with the computers, I need more of my brain to work. What I do when seen with a computer isn't what others do. A times, I'm dismantling and repairing, troubleshooting, setting up and others.. Sometimes, I don't even have time checking my mail.

I think if jobs are described well and one wants to do more they should just genuinely desire to do more. There is nothing in that computer without internet except they want to be watching movie on it.

Some of us who work for companies don't really like it. Especially those of us in the east working for igbo own companies who don't care about how you fair and don't do pay raise if you are not related to them. If I mention how much I get paid with all my experiences and expertise, you will even help and cry for me. Sometimes, we just try as much as we can not to let ourselves into bad things. the little we earn we help family and friends as well as try to save so one can startup his own.

My bro/sis. Everyone who knows what really to do with a computer will apply in that area. Anyone who asks for that when it has nothing to do with their job isn't ready to work.

I left my bank job because my wife and i were bankers and it was hell tough for both of us to cope...so I had to resign when I was badly needed that is at my peak.

Thank God I took that bold decision.

Well said, but unfortunately, all they want to offer to an employer is how to press computer and be using company free wifi to be posting pictures on Facebook, Instagram and browsing pictures of hot boys and hot girls, so they won't heed to your advice angry angry

Lol.. Your IT support should do their jobs well then. Let there be restrictions over the wifi. There is nothing we can't achieve and however we want it over the use of internet.

I was underpaid and overworked.

Closing at 8pm. 30k salary for a graduate.

Transportation alone was like 25k for the month. But I needed to leave the house.
Worked there for only 3months and ran.

Got another one for 50k afterwards, I was going to work from Sunday to Sunday, the employer kept on owing. He will pay January salary on the 16th of February and pay February salary on the 30th of March, I worked for 2months and ran after I made enquiries and realized he's owing some staff for 6months.

I stayed at home for a long time before I got this one. I'm being paid just a little above the last one but salary comes every 26th. I observe all the public holidays, close at 5pm dot and I dont work weekends.
I'll keep searching for better offers until I get my miracle job. For me, a good offer is one that pays me well, doesn't owe, and still gives me time for myself. Come work no be come die.

You made sense bro.

Let us discuss about John and see if he's gaining or losing.

John works at a company.

John earns 120k monthly

Expenses

He spends 1k to and fro

He spends # 700 on food and water

He subscribes 2k for his Internet

He shops every month with 10k

He spends 5k monthly on deodorants and soaps

He pays 3k monthly for electricity

He pays 1k monthly for security

He pays 12k as tithe

He spends 2k monthly for maintenance of house hold equipment

He spends 10k on dstv suscription

He pays 12,500 on house rent monthly

He sends 20k to his siblings monthly

He sends 10k to his parent monthly

He spends 5k on other expensive on visiting friends on transportation

He also spends 10k on a tour

Total monthly expenses = #104, 200

monthly Salary = #120,000

Savings = 120,000 - 104,200

= #15, 800

In a year you would save up to 15,800 x 12 = 189,600

Which is not even up to a wedding expenses even if you save the next 4 years of your salary.

If you were John, would you continue with the Job or quit the job?

Hahahah even when we don't earn half of this, we save more than that and still give parents and siblings.

I might not be Mr John but I would for now to receive what Mr John receives and at when due you will hear that I've employed Mr BEN and others.

Note: I know my job well. Na under payment day still day keep many of us.

Most Nigerians are lazy to be honest and that is why Nigeria is struggling economically. We all want a job that will pay us 1million naira a month and our job role will be to be pressing computer from 9am to 5pm, monday to friday, and on the 25th of the month, they will pay us 1million Naira.

Once you are made a manager or supervisor in Nigeria, it automatically means you are not supposed to do any work again, you become overnight boss bossing every employee around to do the job....

The maintenance manager in a Nigerian company will never touch the spanner, will never know how to loosen a bolt, will never know how to apply grease......that is the Nigerian failed, lazy work setting....but I tell you guys, it is not like that abroad. If you are the manager in a company in Europe, Asia, or even USA, you are the one that will lead the work...you work more than your subordinates not pressing computer and browsing fine girls on Facebook and booking hotels and flights and be forming boss like all Nigerian managers and head of departments do, and reason Nigerian firms don't last more than 50 years.

If you have a relation or close friend that live outside Africa, ask them the work ethics of Asians, Americans, Europeans, etc. You must work for your pay...you must justify the hour you are paid for.

Haven't you guys wondered why your friends and relatives living abroad hardly have time to answer your calls or engage in frivolities like those working in Nigeria It is because they work their pay!!

If you doubt me, try and travel out of Nigeria and work....then you will realize that Nigerians are not working, they just want to be paid huge without working for it.

Don't generalise...it's unintelligent to do so..

Most employers here are exploiters....we don't have strong labour laws here

l left my last job for two reasons

First, the staffs have this eye service, all trying to impress the CEO with what you did and what you didn't do so he would like them more and treat them better. Plus they won't mind their job role, they always want to know what you are doing and how you are doing it

Secondly, my colleague in my department resigned and I was asked to over work before another colleague will be employed, I covered both shifts for two months with the manager saying he hasn't found a good replacement that I should endure meanwhile I was expecting a little increment for this periods and when it never came I opt to resign and when I did, manager said he won't pay my last salary.

Trust me, I gave them a run for their money cool

This is a very tactic questions for applicant especially when they are fired from their previous job.
To answer this tricky question, let's start with things you shouldn't say!.

*Do not say things that express negativity towards your old employer, the recruiter see this as a red flag, they will see you as someone who is bitter and negative and you would not he hired. Ensure your language is neutral and try to be calm.

*Do not over load the interviewer with details and in depth reasons, don't sound defensive and go into details of what happen from your own side of the story.

* You should not lie about the reason you left your old job but be very smart with how you tell the truth! Lying could hurt you if they do a reference check and trust me, most organisations do!. What I mean by being smart about telling the truth is.... not lying but not saying the intended truth...for examples. You don't want to tell the recruiter you left your previous job because you got a better pay in another company, they feel you are all about the money even though that's one the big reasons we work. You could say you left because you got a more challenging job that put your talents into resourceful use and in the previous job your talents was not fully utilised. Or better still you could say because the reward do not commensurate the effort and your cost of service compared to the pay do not leave anything to save. That is a smart truth!. ( but this is when you left the company on your own)

*Do not feel awkward when answering the question try to be calm, your body language could mean you are lying even when you are telling the truth and being nervous denotes a lack of confident in the eye of the employer.

What you should do

*Tell the truth and be Honest. It always pay
*Always give detail not a novel you dont have to tell the whole story in other to make sense that's not the best use of your interview time.
*whatever reasons given, ensure you go back to why you are the suitable candidate for the position they are hiring for. Your focus is not on your old job but this one so stop spending time why you left the old job and start convincing to why you are better at this new job.

If you are fire because your performance was bad.
Do not lie about it. Remember, say the truth smartly. You do not want to say you could not perform because you don't know how to do your task well ...... the recruiter will you as unteachable and someone who does not want to learn.

Answer like this: After some management changes it become clearer that the new director had new expectations for my role that was didnt line up with my strengths so he eventually brought in someone from the previous company who had more experience. This experience taught me that my real talents is (the position you are applying for) I would like to discuss my expertise if you like.

I left my job to pursue my entrepreneurial dreams, which is my passion & destiny that I had always longed for since I was very young.

I was earning about half a million naira per month but I didn't get the fulfillment I wanted, I always felt like a fish out of the waters, so after many years of being unhappy, I decided to heed destiny's call, I resigned from the financial institution I worked for and set out for an 'uncertain' future.

The first 2 years did not present pleasant experiences as I wasn't even making up to 25% of what I used to earn but as time went by, my faith and doggedness keep me going and things are much better now.

Do I regret my decision? Hell NO, it's about the best I have taken so far in my life. The future is even more exciting because I would be making in a year what I used to earn in 4 years (or more) combined out of my many years of career.

When Abraham Maslow ranked 'self-actualization' top of the hierarchy of needs, I didn't understand, now I know better. Please pursue your dreams without fear even if it means getting out of your comfort zone. Self-actualization is priceless.

PS (Post modified)
Oh, sorry for veering of course, I just carefully read the post of the OP after I had made this post, the question was within the context of a job interview, didn't realize this but then, I have made my post already, the time I spent writing would not be wasted....lol.

The acceptable reasons for leaving a job would be, better opportunities or a pay rise. Other reasons could be, to change locations or explore other places.

To those seeking for employment, I pray that you find favour today and that this incoming week will bear good news for you all.

A big Amen to that. Thanks

My boss's fiancee was my supervisor. She was so in love with me that I was promoted to a rank I didnt deserve. Initially i thought I merited it only for me to discover that my supervisor was in love with me and had masterminded everything. She started making advances. I even had to take her out just to make my intentions known respectfully but she didnt listen. After thinking deep I decided to resign just to avoid future problems. It was tough initially for me after my resignation, had some bills to settle, no money for weekend flexing and all that. But God still made a way and am back on my feet now.

Lol...unfortunately, that's not how life works. Earnings and taste is relative.

What you might consider to be big pay, is someone else's pocket money or is not even enough for the next man to get by. Some people by virtue of taste, lifestyle, upbringing, bills, ongoing projects, job experience, age, family, plans etc will turn down offers that you would have ordinarily accepted.

Las las, God go bless everyone so that we get to that level.

Beautiful ma'am. Actually I have a client with a very complicated issue. We make a CV for her, she got an invite for an interview, she passed the first interview after our preparation , she was asked to come for the second during which the company did a reference check on her with one of previous employer and unfortunately, they called a company where the CEO was making sexual advances at her. ( it was a one man business tho) The man said alot of negative things about her. When she went for the second interview she was asked why she left that particular job ( you know you can't speak bad of your previous employer, that's the rule she thought) she gave an excuse saying she needed a more challenging....so forth. The whole interview questions and answers thing. The recruiter told her he did a reference check on her and her previous employer said alot of bad things about her, long story short she lost the job.

Nigeria is a very complicated country, things are really tight here, so job applicant have to be very careful.... study your recruiter, study the company, its environment. Always tell the truth!!....

She's got another offer now
