As long as you want to. But it will be best to ask: how long will it take to understand PHP basically. Yeah. You only need to understand, you won't learn everything. That shi*t was released in 1994 and since then, improvement upon improvements. After understanding it basically, then you can delve as far as you want, if at all that s what you want.

But back to the time it takes, I would say: there is no set time. As you live, you love, you do it.

I started with Java but I can't recommend it for starters. You should rather go for a simple language like C# or Visual Basic.
If you start with those, it helps you understand syntax constructs which is same in ALL computer languages.
My portfolio carries: C#, VB.net, MATLAB and Python and I do almost everything with them

Boss can u tell me what's the next stage to move in java, it just finish learning the basis in java with core knowledge of OOP concept.

19 started with c++ but along the way I fell in love with java.

I still have crush on php python and R though.

I started off with java at 15. My first love was Andriod dev. But my 1gb ram lappy couldn't run Andriod Studio. I had no direction then, I jumped from php to c++ to Javafx framework. Nothing to show for it apart from command line based apps.
I ported to python.
Am 18 now. And I use django framework.
Stack is HTML, CSS, Js, python.

I learnt nearly half of that with my Mobile phone and I built my first django powered app with my mobile phone. See screenshot below.
Some guys won't just do their due diligence. You mobile phone is a s powerful as your PC.
Why do you think it is called a mini computer?
I know of a guy who built a chat bot with his Andriod. I mean an A.I chat bot just like JARVIS but a mini version of it.
PS am not saying having a system is not important. Of course there are some limitations of a mobile phone. The only problem I have is with people who have Mobile phone but keep giving excuses of not starting to learn programming due to not having a system.

started with the usual HTML,css,basic JavaScript, and PHP. During which I created a web application which enable CBT test to be written online but couldn't deploy it.

But currently am loving Java and developing Android apps.

What is limiting me is no laptop.
Everything I have done is via my phone.

I discovered programming at the age of 37 in 2012. It all started when a friend taught me how to automate my design works in excel with VBA MACRO, venturing into MACRO opened my eyes to further the studies into Visual basic VB6 and I was able to publish my little works for running on windows that same year. While attending the VB training, I inquire how to reach wider audience with my works, another road was shown into web development.

I gradually learned HTML, Javascript and PHP online. between 2012 and 2013. By 2015, I enrolled for Diploma course in Web Development with NIIT Port Harcourt. And today, am a fulfilled web developer (PHP specifically).

Provided I am able to get what I needed with PHP and Javascript, needless to must learn every-every and thus, dropped further studies into VB and .NET since 2017. But my next take is Python or .NET. looking forward to middle of 2020.

If you never thought of coding, you will be looking at programmers like small gods. until the first day I wrote a functional MACRO, I used to believe that programmers are special kind of people not knowing I can code "HELLO WORLD" in less than 10 minutes class and take off from there.

At 14-15, i always wanted to be a software engineer but i learned my first programming language immediately i left secondary school (18). I struggled with java at first. I learnt core java for like six months but i wasn't satisfied with the results (solving algorithmic problem). I had to meet experts both in person and online. Their response actually compelled me to start my programming carrier with C language. I am proud now to say that i am a C programmer. We all know that C language is not fun but i love it because am not a fan of web dev. I am a loyal disciple of Software Dev. After learnig C Language i will now move to java, c++ and python + their technologies/frameworks.

Note: Programming is not all about developing sites n software though it is good to learn the technologies but make sure you learn your data structures and algorithms very well. If you cannot solve algorithms with the languages you have learnt. YOU ARE NOT A PROGRAMMER!.

You won't go very far with this mindset.
I keep telling people that programming is not a side hustle that you can just enter and start seeing returns immediately. You need several months of rigorous training and practice if you really want to get something from programming.
Dedication and preserverance is the key. I have seen guys who quit programming because they couldn't understand a particular logic.

If you use that mindset above and happen to hit a bug that will take your several weeks to debug, you will lose interest in no distant time.

Code for the knowledge. Take programming as your career path if you really want to squeeze some juice out of it.
Money would come naturally when people see you works.
In my department I do run mini projects for my niggahs. It is not much but can help a long way.
I even run tutorial for some of my course mates. So you see when you are good, people will flock around you. And money will come to you.
Chase knowledge bro. Knowledge is not just power but money!

I am encouraged by your post, I have learnt alot with VBA for excel and I am venturing into VBA. Net. My problem is that the institution that I am learning from does not really explain much so I have to resort to you tube, Google searches and figure out most things on my own.
