The same people crying here will come tomorrow to remind us how beautiful and clean Rwanda is, but they will tolerate, support and defend what Rwanda wont tolerate to keep their city clean.

They love to compare other countries with Nigeria and bore us to death how about how Nigeria is backward, dirty and lawless, but their are too clueless to figure out that they themselves are pathetic reflection of everything that's bad about Nigeria.

They will go to the other countries that they compare Nigeria with and obey their laws over there, but when they get back to Nigeria, they won't obey the laws, they wont support measures and laws designed to reflect orderliness and cleanliness.

They want to live in a beautiful and well governed country like America and Europe, but they can not obey the laws that the people in America and Europe abide by.

Nigeria is not ready, there are just too many lawless and unruly people.

Have you been to Rwanda?
They allow motorcycles with helmet! That's from personnel experience.

You cannot enforce a draconian law when there are no alternatives. If you don't want public defecation provide public toilets! Is that too hard for us to grasp?

Look at Lasema Response Unit under Ambode, look at LRU under Sanwoolu.

This Governor with his misplaced priorities is banning bikes but you see that Otedola Bridge, an unserviceable truck plying our highways would still cause an accident there before weekend. He is blind to that one.

Sometimes I wonder how these guys make profit sef in this Lagos with so many terrific laws and taxes. Each of those bikes cost at least N400,000 (excluding registration, insurance and taxes). Those with lower capacity (the regular bikes) are sold at N300-330k.

If I were the owner of OPay, Lagos is the last place I'll establish this business. The business environment is too harsh and unstable. Sanwo-olu can decide to ban all motorbikes in Lagos without consultation!

Planned society...yes...how can remove the remedy for an issue without finding a lasting cure.

Fix 80 -90% roads...then ban them....infact you dont need to ban them...they will die a natural death....who wil not prefer a cheaper and safer mode of transportation.

Werey ni Government yi....they dont have common sense

They make more profit than the regular bikes

I once boarded opay bike from oshodi to V.I and it costs me 1,600 and they are expected to make a minimum of 10 trips a day as their target which is mandatory

Unlike the regular bikes that carry 100 naira per trip

Sanwo-Olu is a very clueless governor. He might end up being the worst governor in Lagos state history.
The same OPay that has been helping Lagosians meet up with appointments, avoid sacks and saved lots of productive hours usually spent in Lagos traffic on a daily basis ?
Why are these people allergic to anything that will reduce the transportation woes of the average Lagos residents ?
The traffic laws only banned motorcycles with engine capacity lesser than 200cc from plying the highways and other restricted routes. To the best of my knowledge, OPay , Max etc use motorcycles with engine capacity around 250cc upwards.
The amount of traffic in Lagos metropolis is unprecedented, Yet this point and kill Governor wants to to make things worse.
While tankers are having a field day on the roads and he’s at lost as to what to do, it’s the Bike that are helping to alleviate the suffering that he’s barking at.
All the roads he announced will be repaired or reconstructed as soon as possible are still the same thing. From Badagry to Ikorodu , Epe, Alimosho, etc.
Infact all the 5 divisions of Lagos state is worse than he met them.
I hope Cardinal Odumbaku and other Lagos APC stalwarts are taking keen interest on this accidental Governor they foisted on us?
AMBO was bad, pompous, not a good party man etc. But I don’t think Sanwo-Olu is any better.

It's not as simple as it looks.

It is believed that one of these Okada services belongs to the Ambode's (The wife presumably). That may explain why they were able to operate without a license for so long.

My heart cries for Nigeria cos of the height of cluelessness of our so-called leaders and any other sycophantic followers always celebrating mediocrity or beclouded with their personal greed like their leaders.

You have nailed the point.. They always hate anything trying to set the people free! I am more than fed up. They hate solutions that do not originate from them!

Good riddance! Is this how commercial motor bikes have invaded American highways where Google that owns the so called OPay is from??

Whoever must operate motor bike business has to comply with the laws of the land...there are specified routes that Motor bikes are allowed to ply in the state, period!

The arrest is as result of illegal packing on lagos highways when you get to iyanapaja you will the them in thousands packing on the highway just like okada riders .They are supposed to look for hiding location not packing on the highway, uber might be close to you but you can never see them packing their cars on the roads they look for streets shopping mall etc to cool off. O pay needs to educate their riders or create an opay station in different locations.

This stupid administration cannot even deal with tankers on its roads or decongest the Ports yet you are chasing small okada riders. I remember when I was getting visas in Lagos, if not for Okada, I wont be where I am today. Thank u guys. Nigerians instead of fighting corruption, you are stifling hardwork, innovation and entrepreneurship. Nigerians need to start embracing and supporting small business people. If you cant help them, get out of their way.

If you can't help them, get out of their way

The license issue is just an excuse. How can a company as big as OPay refuse to obtain such license that will smoothen their operations?
The governor and his advisers are just being petty. They’re scared that these motorcycle companies are threatening their BRT and LBS businesses.
It’s a basic economics principle of demand and supply. If the roads are free, why would anyone prefer OPay to fully AC BRT buses ?
They should do their responsibility by decongesting the road and stop chasing shadows.
A lot of graduates have resorted to riding these bikes as a means of survival in the face of wanton unemployments.
The LASG needs to be careful and have a rethink on this matter.

Did you read the part that said that Lagos state did not approve the operations of bike hailing companies?

I think we must not hide under the cover of irresponsible leadership and bad roads to support this very unruly behaviour of okada riders. They may serve to reduce transportation time from one end to another but have you thought about the risk factors to the riders and other road users?

Before the advent of okada on major roads we all went about our businesses successfully. They appeared on the roads and very soon we started to experience their lawlessness and irresponsibility. Okada riders never stop at traffic lights. If they feel that you are obstructing them they kick your car or hit it very hard thereby damaging it. Police find it hard to control them even as some police officers use them as their personal shops. They are very abusive and highly anti social. Somehow those who prefer okadas have taken to the bad mannerisms of their riders themselves. Please go to Igbobi, private hospitals and local bone doctors and you will see uncountable people getting treated from wounds sustained during their rides.

When El Rufai banned them in Abuja central business district people thought their movements had been completely restricted. Go and see how it is there today without them. Years since El Rufai left okadas still don't dare go to the CBD. They have been banned in some states yet there is peace. When they were restricted in Lagos we had peace.

Our problem is enforcement and very dubious leaders. Just before the elections they become emergency friends with okada riders. Immediately after elections they begin to remind them of the laws.

Okada owners have been asked to upgrade to keke napep several times. Most say they cannot afford it, yet there are thousands who operate hire purchase.

I support that they should be banned completely, no matter the name they cover up with.

Government on its own should fix the roads and provide more buses to make life easier rather than give room for embezzlement and extortion by transport unions and some dirty minded policemen. Government should stop using touts and unions to play politics and stay in power. Government should be responsible and manage the affairs of the people of the state properly.

Cheers.

Btw, it’s an executive order by the governor himself.
