Adedamola92:
I applied for the family renunion visa in May, 5th to be precise and I got an interview date for December 5th. I have few questions however for people that have gone through this process or have a know how of how it works.
How long after the interview will the visa be issued?
Is Proof of residence of the spouse living in Germany the same as "Meldebescheinigung"?
What did your spouse use as proof of residence? Also, does the proof of residence need to be in original?

@Adedamola92 how was your family reunion interview today. Hope it went well. Please i also have a family reunion interview on tge 12th if this month, any tip and what were you asked. Thank

Good evening guys,
Had my interview yesterday and it went well. First ensure you arrange all the documents according to the order that is on the checklist. Although Paulonius will want you to arrange it his way, but it's a lot easier once you have already arranged it according to the checklist.
I got to the embassy around 6:30am, I was allowed in 15 minutes later . My invitation email printout was stamped, I took my sit and waited to be attended to. 8:15am, Paulonius attended to me and told me to arrange my docs according to his own order which isn't far away from the way it is on the checklist. This process took about 20mins because he was deliberately wasting time and trying to assert his authority. Once I was done, I proceeded into the embassy to eventually meet the interviewer.
She asked me if I had both the document verification and the visa application fee and I said yes. She then told me to rearrange my docs according to her checklist, she scanned my passport photograph and that of my spouse. She told me to re-sign my application form and write Lagos as the "Place" and yesterday's date as the "Date" did this for both application forms, my questionnaires and the data protection forms (she gave me this form there).

She asked for my Spouse's phone number, email, date of birth, the city my spouse resides and what spouse does. She asked if my spouse is on scholarship or not, I told her my spouse is not on scholarship. This was when she told me I will only need to pay for application fee and not the verification fee. I was confused, I brought out my spouse's work contract (this was part of many supplementary documents that I went with), she took the contract to her superior and came back to tell me that I still don't need to pay the document verification fee. I asked her if I could ask her a question and she smiled and told me to go ahead. I asked why I wouldn't need to pay, she said it's because my spouse is a Researcher (PhD student) so I don't need to pay. We then proceeded to interview questions, in my mind I was like (what questions again o). I can't remember the whole questions she asked, but I will drop some.
How old is your spouse?
Where was your spouse born?
Spouse's date of birth?
What date did your spouse agree to start dating or vis a vis?
Were you friends before you started dating?
What year did your spouse first traveled to ?
How long has your spouse's parent know about you?
Have you been to Germany before?
Have you been convicted before?
Has either of you been married before?
How long have you been dating?
How long have you been married?
What does your spouse do?
Where does your spouse work?
How long has your spouse been residing in Germany?
What is your spouse's home address?
When did the actual marriage take place?
How often do you see?
Have you at any point stayed together in the same house? If yes, from when to when (date /month).
When was the last time you saw your spouse?
Where was the last time you saw your spouse?
How much does your spouse earn? (exact figure).
How many times have you been together? 100? 350? Over 500 times?
Do you stay alone?
Are you working?
What qualifications do you have?
What were you doing when you met your spouse ?
Describe in details how your first meeting was?
When your spouse came , did he/she come home for the sake of the marriage?
How did the marriage proposal go?
Have you had your church marriage?
Do you speak German?
Do you have children that you will like to travel with?
Where did your engagement take place?
When did your engagement take place?
Where did your marriage take place?
She returned my passports to me and told me I will be contacted when it's needed. She has another checklist where she ticked the docs I provided and told me to sign. She created a file on which she wrote my name , where she kept my original documents,my pre-paid envelope and the copies of the documents I submitted.

Ps. She requested for 6 pictures from the engagement and the wedding plus all the old pictures we had, she ended up collecting 6 engagement pictures and 3 wedding pictures plus all old pictures. She was particular about pictures that show you and your spouse, you, your spouse with witnesses.
Also ensure you use the new application form on the website, it makes the whole process easy.

The entry and exit stamp is important, it helps you answer questions on duration and the last time you saw to avoid contradiction.

The original Proof of Residence of your spouse is required.

If I remember more, I will update accordingly.

Please naira Fam I need ur help. I applied for a German family reunion visa 10 of October, but I haven't gotten an appointment date yet. Pls anybody with an experience of filling the form? I need to know what they meant by this question (1) my Residence permit no?

I'm not sure if Nigerians uses residence permit number, I have not heard of it. Or is it suppose to be our national ID? I'm really confused about this question. And the second question
(2) they asked intended duration of stay in Germany? (From - To)
Hence I'm going to be with my husband, should write from now till forever?
And the third question
(3) do I have health insurance that covers Republic of Germany?
Should I tick yes which mean it's my husband's health insurance OR should tick NO.. Which will mean I don't have any health insurance in Germany.

Please good people help me
Thanks in advance

Residence permit number should be that of your spouse, ensure its the new forms and that is on website that you are filling. And be sure they are not referring to "residence number" which will be your home address number. If your husband is there for a specific period of time, I. e. If he is there for his masters, use the duration of the expected time he it's suppose to take him to complete his program. If he is there for work purpose, I will suggest you use a reasonable duration, Maybe 3yrs. I also advice you start filling this form once you get an appointment date. Regarding the insurance, ask your husband if the insurance he has covers his family, if No, tell him to look into getting one that will cover his family. If he does, then you can tick that you have health insurance. In my opinion, get all possible relevant documents that you can lay your hands on, take them to the embassy as part of supplementary documents incase you need to show them, if they don't ask for it, you will take it back which doesn't hurt.

Hi Adedamola92,

Wishing and praying success for you concerning your visa.

Just needed to confirm if you had to legalise your marriage certificate or not and the process of going about it if you did so.

Yes, Meldebescheinigung is the proof of residence and you will need the original. This shows that your husband legally resides in Germany. There is also residence permit which is different from the proof of residence. You only need copies of this(residence permit) and not the original.

Please dear, I truly appreciate that you're carrying everyone here along. God bless you more...

Can you please clarify me on this... The last residence permit No you mentioned, my husband has only Meldebescheinigung and his German National passport ( as a white German,he thinks that he doesn't need a residence permit no. It's only applicable to immigrants) that's people that migrated to Germany.
And secondly, the copy of Meldebescheinigung I have, is original copy he scanned and sent to me. Does he have to resend it by DHL or Express? What I mean is that... Doesn't a scanned copy of original copy of Meldebescheinigung count ? Won't that be enough? Please be patient with all our questions

I wouldn't mind calling you on phone, if that's OK by you

Thank you
Re: General German Work And Family Re-union Visa Enquiries by Adedamola92: 12:53pm On Dec 11, 2019
I really don't think the copy of the Meldebescheinigung counts, the interviewer specifically asked for the original.
If he is a German citizen, then his green passport or his ID (showing that he is German) is perfect.

I am really curious to understand why the delay in giving out appointments and if really there are many applicants or they do not have enough workers

They held on to all original documents including the proof of residence. All original original documents documents will be returned to you, that's the essence of you submitting a pre paid courier envelope.

Hi guys,
I and my two kids applied on the 4th of may this year, and we got separate date for interview for 12th, 16th and 17th of December. I had mine on the 12th, it went quite well. I arrived the embassy at around 5:50am, although i left home using uber around 5 am because I dont want traffic to be an excuse for lateness. As i got there, i was told to go and stay at the motor park and come back by 6: 30am since my interview is 7am. I went to pray at a mosque in the motir park keeping my things with me because those people who came for USA interview were much about 150 and more.

I returned to the embassy around 6:30 and was told to stay beside the embassy, i and other people who also came for the interview were allowed in at about 6: 47am.

The security stamped our email invites printout and wrote time on it. We all were sited and Mr Paulinos came in at 7am. All phone were switched of before we came in and only small purse was allowed in with files, no extra baggage. Thankfully, Mr Paulinos was in a good mood.

We were about 25 that came for interview that day. Mr Paulinos first called those on visiting visa to go in, then he called those for work permit, he dictated how they should arrange their documents. A work permit guy was not with his prepaid courier, and went out to get one at the motor park without Mr paulinos written permission, he got a bit angry but later considered him by making his time of arrival afresh thereby writing a new time of arrival on his printout.

We for reunion were called in twos to rearrange our documents. I arranged according to how it was on the website and as suggested by @Adedamola92. I was asked if i had my 180k i.e 30k for visa and 150k for document verification by Mr Paulinos, because if i dont have it and have entered i will not be allowed to go out forany transaction except i amgoing home. I had my money with me, I entered, submitted my phone in a locked cubicle, security checked me and i entered the interview section.

I waited for my turn. My husband was for blue card, but have not left so i took his visa page, employment contract as his resident permit and proof of living in Germany because he just got his visa in November and leaving soon. My document was checked but i didnt put affidavit of spinsterhood because i thought my marriage certificate will suffice but no they said since i was not married before that the head of my family(father) should do the affidavit and i must bring it within 2weeks but i told them i would bring it on monday since i am coming with my kid on monday, and it was allowed.

My documents were checked again,
i was asked what my husband name is,
where he lives,
where he was born,
who take financial responsibility of the house,
how much he earns,
how long have we been living together,
How many wife he has (since we used an islamic marriage certificate and sworn affidavite of marriage).
How many kids we have.
And some other question i might not remember now.

I did my biometric capture, paid 30k for visa and 150k for document verification, i was given receipt and told to make two copies each for the kids and bring it with the original when coming for the kids interview since that 150k will be used for the three of us. I left around 11: 28 am.

Note : all document should be three i.e the original and two other copies except where specified otherwise. Also take all document you feel might be a supporting document, they will never send you back for it, least is they will say you it doesnt need.

They held on to all original documents including the proof of residence. All original original documents documents will be returned to you, that's the essence of you submitting a pre paid courier envelope.

Okay, thanks for the reply

WAAAAAT!
you got diff dates for all members of your family. I am in this category too and I wrote them to inform them but they wont reply.
I am confused about the checklist (document requirements) for kids. Pls which checklist applies to them?
Is it same requirements for the spouse?

Hello everyone, I applied for family reunion interview date on Sept 19th for my wife and son but yet to get a date, I am willing to apply for visit visa for them pending the waiting period, please I will like to know if this won't affect the application for family reunion ?
Re: General German Work And Family Re-union Visa Enquiries by knogbu: 2:26pm On Dec 16, 2019
It wont affect it. they will simply fly back to nigeria for the interview. It will also improve their chances and show that you have money and accomodation for them already
