@basalt, I don't have to reply Ur insults.

Lol, I never claimed to have gone to the US or visited it. I have not been to the US nor do I want to go there.
As regards crossing the shores of naija, that one got me Rollin on the floor laughing.
Cheers!

Apologies if you feel insulted but you started it bro. What do you mean by Ur eyes will open soon enough and u'd have to rethink Ur plans in your first comment?
Are you hoping for me to rethink my plans or what? I am really pissed off when people claim to know it all even knowing the future as if they are God. I hate that post with passion and you should learn how to be constructive and mature in your posts. That abroad didn't work for you doesn't mean it won't work for others. This is an Educative thread let's reduce insults and learn believe it or not both sides have advantages and disadvantages

But in my 1 cent advice comparing how much u earn in dollars to how much earned in naira may not be a good idea its better u compare both currency strengths in the two countries

A man that earns example $10000 cannot be said to earn 3.6million cos he spends d money in dollars and not Naira therefore both values are not same

You made a nice point. The bills here is really much especially when compared to the bills in Nigeria but we are talking of what remains after spending money in a month. For instance, with my single salary last month for night job, I cleared all my bills including TK insurance (because I am less than 30) and bought Samsung s9 (German version), wireless headset, etc and have some small money remaining in my N26 account, this is what I COULDN'T have done if I was still teaching in that private school earning less than 30k in a month. Imagine if I didn't buy all these things, I will save it in my firstbank account just within one month of working. This december, I am planning of sending 100k to my parents for Christmas celebration, I know it is a chicken change but I dare not try it when I was in Nigeria earning peanuts. Infact I have never given my parents money since I was born not because I didn't feel like but because I couldn't give what I didn't have.
Don't get me wrong, there are people in Nigeria that can afford samsung S9 four times every month with their salary but how many percent?
If you are among those few people Nigeria is favouring then you can stay and enjoy but if it doesn't favour you, my brother my sister find your way out LEGALLY if you can, don't listen to all these people discouraging you, the fact is that you stand a better chance of making it more if you plan yourself well, I can't lie to you guys.

I didn't mean any disrespect by my statement but that statement remains true and I won't be changing it or withdrawing it.
The statement embodies many experiences I have had along the way, seeing Nigerian and how they live and suffer.
Some years back my general manager (wifey) was looking for a help around the house but it was not easy to get here, something that one may have easily gotten in US, UK or Naija.
We were finally pushed to speak with Nigerians, men when u hear their stories u'd weep. It's esp difficult in a country that is getting hostile to foreigners. We had to respect ourselves and re-evaluate our strategy. I went off work and did the house help stuff myself,....lol.

I admire Ur spirit and rightful so, it's within Ur right to want success for urself. Pls don't let anyone take that spirit from u, fight for what u feel is right.
But remember this, not everyone is entitled to travel out or entitled to leave and work abroad. Me am living my dream so live urs.

You see why it appears I have problem with you?
You just type without carefully reading into the points others are making.
NOW LET ME REACT TO THESE POINTS YOU MADE ABOVE

1. seeing Nigerian and how they live and suffer
If some few Nigerias (illegal immigrants) live and suffer abroad, is it now enough to say one shouldn't travel abroad legally?
Do you know how many Nigerians (legal and educated) that are suffering in Nigeria?

2. Some years back my general manager (wifey) was looking for a help around the house but it was not easy to get here, something that one may have easily gotten in US, UK or Naija.
First of all, I thought you said you have never been to USA? How did you know that it is something that might easily be gotten in US and UK?
Thats apart, is it now enough to discourage people from furthering their education abroad or will I say Germany simply because your wife didnt get help around the house?

3. I went off work and did the house help stuff myself,....lol.
I am new in Germany and single too but believe me, once you have the money you can employ Nannies to take care of your baby or find a way to do it. There are many family people here with children and they are not complaining. Now let me shock you all. Do you know that German government pays money to you for every child you have? just for the maintenance of that child (about 200 euros a month for each child) if you have 3 children, the government gives you over 600 Euros monthly to assist you take care of them, I mean even if you are not a citizen sef provided you are in Germany. Can Nigerian government give you a penny to support your children?

4. But remember this, not everyone is entitled to travel out or entitled to leave and work abroad.
Did you see any part of my post which says that we must all leave Nigeria? I kept on saying it from the onset that if you are doing well in Nigeria, there is no point leaving but if you are not doing well, then leave and try somewhere else. That has always been my point.

Please always read other people's point very well before responding

Am only going to quote this portion cos I want to react to it specifically; yes it's possible to hire any nanny to look after Ur child but we weren't looking for any nanny. The money to pay the nanny was not the problem but rather the nanny itself (one can't be too careful).
In some cases but only when one pays tax and has a good health insurance one could even get the health insurance to pay for the nanny if one can prove that one is incapacitated to do so (that by the way was the situation we found ourselves then).

The other comments u made like the government raising one about 180 to 200 per child only goes so far and really doesn't cover much or any of the expenses one runs with ones children. Children are expensive in Germany but I see now what entices u to the country. Money is not everything.
The people suffering I mentioned earlier was yes mostly illegals but I also know and met students who ran out of funds and had stress keeping body and soul together.

Like I said, Ur life Ur decision. Let noone discourage u otherwise. My intention wasn't to discourage but to give other perspective to the discussion.
Cheers!!

The more you try to proof a point the more your points become meaningless..The man in Germany explained what he passed through in Nigeria before he travelled out to Germany to further his studies..if he is ur family will you advise him to continue with teaching in private secondary school with less than 30k?what is the percentage of those ppl that are living fine in Nigeria? The guy even said he hasn't given his parents money when he was in Nigeria now there's divine breakthrough in his life for planning to send money to his parents for Christmas this December, now tell me has his life not change for good compare to when he was teaching in a private school in Nigeria?

Are you an atheist or Antichrist? Then why are you replacing Christ with X? It’s Christmas not Xmas. Atheists started and invented this bull***. Just to remove Christ from their celebration of Christmas. They are the only one that know what X stands for and not Christ. Be wise.

Yea, it's me Basalt and I always don't wanna paint words. I am a graduate of Geology from UNN (with over 4point GP).
I received much discouraging advice especially from my relatives in America and even my friends telling me that since I have a high GP and still young I should continue applying for jobs in Nigeria because Abroad is no longer what it used to be. I was listening to their lies and applying to non existing jobs for complete 2YRS.
Out of all those applications, I was able to secure only private school jobs which paid less than 30,000 with lots of stress on my life. After 2years of frustration and earning like a rat, I came back to my senses.
I studied geology too and graduated in 2017. Thank God I met this thread. Would u mind mentioning the course you are studying and the school? I'm considering starting a masters program in 2020 in Germany but It seems there's little opportunities for geologists in Germany. How long did your admission and visa process take?

Dumbhead, let me school your ignorance and stupidity again.

Standard working hours per week in America is 40 hours weekly across the country as against the 70hour you falsely claimed. Except you want to do over time which is mostly additional 16 hours weekly and it comes at 1.5% increase of regular rates..

Now let me give you an estimate of a regular person working normal 40hours weekly and 16hours over time at the rate of $15 per hour which is the average here for unskilled and high school graduate.

40hours * 15 = $600 weekly.
16 hours *15* 1.5 = $360 weekly

Total = 960 weekly or 3,840 monthly. Working for 56 hours a week. Convert to naira equals approx of 1.4mil naira before tax.

Now let's calculate average working condition in Nigeria which is 7am to 7pm for people living in lagos which amount to 12hours daily.

Multiply by 5 working days = 60hours weekly assuming he decides to rest on weekend.

Average salary in lagos for young graduate is 80,000 naira and that amount to $219 monthly before tax. Its not even up to the overtime weekly wages in America.

Now let's go back to America. Average medicare, fed income tax and SS tax from the 3,840 should be approx 500bucks so, you are still left with about 3,300usd monthly.

My analysis is 100% accurate cos this is where I am.

Average one bedroom apartment cost $400 monthly where I stay. Light, Internet, waste, phone subscription and other bills don't cost up to $900 monthly. So on the average, such person would still save about $2,000 monthly.

Do I need to remind you that he will enjoy 24hours light, 24hours water, medical access, within that range which only upper class citizens in Nigeria can enjoy such. Tell an average 80k earner in Nigeria to power his generator for 24hours daily in a month and see if he won't stone you to death.

Unlike Nigeria that employs a master degree holder and pays 50k per month, there is a wage scale here in the state where I live, I'm sure it's the same for every other states in America. If you are a high school graduate, no firm pays you less than $10/hour irrespective of your job description. For a com college graduate, minimum is $15 per hour. For a degree holder, minimum is $18- 20 per hour. For professionals like MBA and other masters, minimum is about $25- 30 per hour.

Lets see another angle of your stupidity. In a country of approx 200million, how many percentage of the masses are the multi millionaire with 6 bedroom duplex, 2 other houses, hiring drivers and paying 300k per term for school fees?. Abi no be same lagos where its people live for years and still rent house. Even the cost of rent alone is a war, let alone building 6 bedroom.

Common 30,000naira minimum wage has been war. If its that easy for the country, the government will pay it at ease.

Lets see it from another angle. Majority of the houses springing up lately in Nigeria are more from people abroad sending money home to Thier family to build up for them than the home based locals. If life is that difficult in the west like you paint it, where do those people get the money been sent to Nigeria on daily basis from.?

This is 2019 my brother, stop all this stupidity you display everywhere on the Internet, its not funny anymore.

You might be having fun with this nonsense BS, but everyone is beginning to see you as a mad man, me inclusive.

Just grow up and shut the Bleep up.
thank you my brother, when these fos start their madness they act as if no one else has travelled to that same abroad

1. Yes, you are correct, there are little opportunities for Geologists in Germany, but there are still opportunities for geoscientists here

2. Visa processing is usually 6-8weeks after interview (depending on condition) then admission to study in German universities usually comes after the deadline of application

Sorry for late response.
I am just coming back now from work.

Age is still really by your side.
The first question I will ask you before I proceed to giving my own advice is this.

Do you have passion for computers?
Are you good at logical thinking, mathematics and programming?

Going into a particular field is one thing, graduating is another.
I don't know about Bsc programs but in msc lecturers don't hold hands.
If you go into any area which you are not good at, you will end up frustrated out especially if you go into main universities (Germany also has university of applied sciences)

also, you can go for masters in any of the GIS courses.
GIS is also IT

My question is why would a grown man, or woman, rely on advice from total strangers online for life plans?

Nigeria has an open border, as in citizens are not stopped from leaving as in DPRK, so anyone can go and come as they wish. American visa is given everyday at the embassy, so is German visa, Canadian, Australian, etc.

Just do your thing.
