So I just called emory and they told me there are still costs not included in that 13,600k bill, such as paed, drugs dispensed during delivery etc.

please who has like an idea of the total amount it would cost with these things inclusive just so that I am better prepared. Thanks.

you could consider towing the path of the previous poster, by getting your own doctor, who would then use emory hospital.
2ndly, since you already have a valid visa, you are a free agent, why not consider other american cities with more pocket friendly birthing prices...illinois, detroit oklahoma etc

3rdly, if you are tied to atlanta, there are still more affordable hospitals around emory..like piedmont, womens specialist hospital etc

Bcpump, I wouldn't advice you to fall for these highlighted statements.

Stick to the city and hospital you told or sent to the US visa officers that were going to be using for this birthing trip...so that you visa renewal won't end up causing you problems in the future.

Thank you. I definitely would compare the prices and not go for anything low such as <<10k. what I want is something totalling about 16k for hospital/doc and all medicals.

for the location, I am actually free as I was not asked where exactly I wanted to birth during my Visa update.

I had a valid Visa then I updated my records with the embassy for birthing purposes. they did not ask for new hospital correspondence. just asked me to ensure I return with all receipts and show them at the next interview. I had already gotten emory correspondence to send to them before they updated it though.

Hi Bcpump. Can you please walk me through on how you updated your records with immigration.

During my last interview I was asked if I was going to use this for medicals and I indicated yes if I got pregnant. Then I was given steps on what to do. So you have to first declare during an interview and they would inform you on what to do.

Unfortunately, even the doctors can not tell you what it would cost you for drugs, etc during delivery and hospital stay, as it is based on how the case presents
eg if patient A needs 2 doses of paracetamol orally for 2 days and patient B needs 2 doses of the same paracetamol suppository for 2 days you would agree with me it won't be the same price
and if patient A had nurses come into the room to care just twice a day while Patient B had nurses 4 times a day the cost will differ too.

these all what make up your final bill. That is why after you have been discharged you would be told to wait for a few days for your final bill to drop after the hospital has gone through all your records before you are issued an itemized bill and subsequently a zero balance letter.

na so the matter for hospital be everywhere in the world.

Hello Mrs, sorry If my question sounds very dumb, I am a guy (not married yet, just planning ahead) & i just want to understand some things.

- Why & how come delivery is so expensive in the US?
- Are these prices only for immigrants or Women who only come to give birth?

I understand people with jobs & insurance would have it cheaper but even that, insurance only caters for a small percentage of the bill.

- There are poor people in America, down town NY etc. How do they afford to give birth to their own kids?

Please guys, help me out here. I'm going through this thread & my brain is going ballistic because of the prices.

Hmmm. I don't really know why, but healthcare (not just delivery o) is expensive in US. I have read of how just calling an ambulance or going in for a toothache can cause so much.

That is why the VOs are not accepting low Bill's because they believe if their citizens can pay so much why would we come and think we can get it at ridiculous prices. They also claim that the hospitals that give us low self pay prices somehow claim the discounts from their government. Now that is one battle we cannot win, esp as their guests. So the way we avoid going through that nonsense talk is to look for hospitals that give little or no discount and still have reasonable prices. I know reasonable varies but you can Google different states to know average costs of delivery. That is what should guide you in the term 'reasonable'.

it was not always this strict, but it is what it is now. I had my first baby in the US. Maryland Precisely. And even though I was soooooo mad over the Bill's, I appreciated it during my renewal. the VO that interviewed me even gave me payment tips. And now that I applied to go give birth again, I had no problems being approved by the embassy even without an interview, in this day and time of no dropbox and unsuccessful change of intent.

So do the right thing when you are ready. And pray for God's favour.

This is a very good question. I don’t know of any but I’ve personally seen two moms successfully approved despite paying low bills. They were just warned against taking discounts in the future. I don’t know why the VO’s approved their visas considering most got denied for low bills. A friend paid $4k with the original itemized bill stating $33k & got approved at renewal. She owned it to God. Back to your question again and more. Has anyone here got renewed after denial for low bills/ discounts? Do moms low bills payment affects other family members I.e dads & other children? Does it mean mom’s, who paid low bills will never be approved again?

Goodmorning everyone! Its been a while I posted here but i have been silently catching up.
I just wanted to ask if anyone has used Miami as POE before. I arrived in Atlanta yesterday.. Miami was my POE, however i was surprised there was no CBP interview issh. We had to use a self service machine for scanning passport and fingerprinting, which printed out a receipt that i handed over to the officer . No stamping of passport whatsoever, and we were asked to go. I travelled with my daughter (had her in US 2015).
Im still abit confused. Just wanted to see if anyone has had similar experience.. as I haven’t been to US Since 2015.
Thanks guys.

SO DID YOU JUST GET THE ENTRY for 6 months. No questions asked
How many months are you due?
How long is the waiting time to get birth certificate and passport for the child ?

You should also tell them you are a man to further conceal you true intensions. I mean its not like they have computers where they can later verify if what you said was true nor is it going to affect other people applying after you that may be judged as a liar because, hey, “al Nigerians are the same”.

Thank you for helping us all with your original and clever thoughts, you are truly a genius whom we must all try to emulate.

After you have done the bolded without declaring your intention, maybe the next line of action you will tow is taking government aid.

Then you will come here to tell us how you could not renew your visa out of no fault of yours.

We don't encourage this kind of behaviour of trying to beat the system. Even if you think you have succeeded the next time you go for visa interview it will shock you that they will know you delivered. After all what are you spending 6 months in the US doing when you are not ill.

You are not the first person to think like this and the others who have done this have had it end in tears.

Hey guys,

It’s obvious this person is not very enlightened and there is no need to bash her. We are all here to learn.

Dear please forget about concealing your pregnancy. If you have your visa, even if you did not tell the visa officer at the time of your application that you were pregnant or were not even pregnant when you got the visa, there are ways to go about it.

Please when you arrive at whatever port of entry you are landing at first. Let the visa officer know that you are here to have your baby and explain the reasons why. It is not illegal to have your baby in the US.

Also if possible try not to accept any discounts from hospitals and make sure that your bill is totaling at least $10k. Most of all please DO NOT use medicaid or any government assisted program. Also try to read this thread from around January this year even if you can’t read entire thing.

Good luck with your plans

I agree with you but the bashing probably stems from the fact that we have seen people like this online and offline. She has probably read the last 50 pages of the thread and knows all of the above. This question is coming from the mindset of how can I beat the system and have my child. Why would anyone want to beat the system. its either because they plan to not pay or use government assisted programs to birth. Travelling at 5 months when you don't have complications is not a normal occurrence. Then she will come back and when next she goes for an interview will pretend she has never given birth in the USA before.

We know that the consulate monitors this thread, when they see this kind of posts it reinforces the stereotypes they have about us and puts the rest of us who are trying to do the right thing at a disadvantage.
