Saltybear:Trashy advice from a pillage. Do you think some of these old teachers are fools? As you are doing your own permutations , they also will be doing their own counter-permutation. I have experienced the same situation with my father's inheritance. It was though for me at the beginning....some of the old people even wan to cause division in my family. But I thank God I break the circle of principalities in my father's business. Op , if you don't handle it maturely, it may cause a lot of damage to your family reputation. They may even involve voodoo to start remoting your life. Jesus Himself said that, you can pour a new wine in an old wine skin. It Will burst... |

Saltybear:Mr. City, sometimes breaking palm kernels by the fire and sitting with village ppl can save u from stroke and BP. At that point, u worry less. It's good therapy. See how peeps are slumping and dying from BP, cardiac arrest and stroke in the city. I have had to take a break from work and damn everything to hell, just to regain my sanity in the city. U think if I went to the village to break palm kernels for a break, I wouldn't return, refreshed? |

kimanna:I would reiterate this Leadership People management Diplomacy Go Digital Learn,Unlearn, Relearn. Take a cue from GIGM, ...., as well as other well reformed family business enterprise. If your school seems like the pre-amalgamated Nigeria you can go for the Divide and rule strategy. I believe in A/B testing but the former have worked for me. Peace |

Simply sack the old staff and bring in new staff Don't bend yr stand on the fees issue As for the security look for a reputable security coy and employ vetted guards QED |

![]() The first person to fire is your family member. From experience, having family in your business premises, working under you, is always bad. After you fire someone that close to you, everyone else will sit up. Do it with diplomacy and explain that you would like to restructure the school and you do not see a future for them there. Your mum will complain, tell her it is better to restructure as a limited liability business than to run a family business. Be mindful that some of these people might be fetish, and might want to challenge your actions, so have that at the back of your mind and prepare accordingly. Next phase is to begin to look for credible replacements in place of any other trouble maker in the old staff. If you can recruit a new but experienced teacher who will be loyal to you and make that person the head of schools. Ensure all the accounts are subject to regular banking processes and embark on marketing/promotion of the school's brand. |

Jokerman:Your teachers should not be having altercations with parents. Better warn them. If my kids are in that school and teacher are quarreling with me, i will withdrawal them from the school. |

Jokerman:You can call for a staff meeting And pour your heart gently.. Give them the reasons for all your behaviours and actions and tell them how you'll expect them to behave. Tell them you hear all their gossip and all.. Going forward... Tell them how you expect them to behave. Let them see the school as one big family.. 18 people shouldn't be too much for you to manage.. Lastly, read on emotional intelligence, people management and communication skills. |

Crystalclara:Don't sack them One of the teachers is even related to you.. If you sack the pupils will reduce buy atleast 25% in 1 year. |

Jayess:People are just ripping open the gibberish you wrote, absolute nonsense. The Op has a very weak presence. Listen I have led teams/managed huge number of employees across diverse industries, the number one rule is dedication/firmness. If you are paid to do job, there is no option, you've got to do it and very well. That's why there is performance reviews! |

| Re: How Do I Handle This Issue At Work? by charles009(m): 12:40am On Dec 29, 2019 |
wirinet:My exact reply to his comment was utter bullshit. This OP has a very weak mentality. If I pay you salaries then you should be respectful. You need to let them know things have changed, I LOL in chinese, if I manage that school all of them will align. I once led a team of 15 brand specialist all ladies, as tough as managing women can be, they all did their jobs fine. If you ain't ready to work, you have to Bleep off asap. |
| Re: How Do I Handle This Issue At Work? by charles009(m): 1:02am On Dec 29, 2019 |
If I run that school, I wont have to speak a word or fire anybody to make them align. Op you cut the figure of a man with a weak mentality/presence. You must NOT listen to the people advising you to divide and rule, its a sign of weakness that you are NOT in charge. For you to succeed in the business world, you must appear a man without emotion/ruthless/sinister/evil. HIRE a HR executive/manager whatever. I call them the ultimate snippers. Her first role will be a school policy book, with emphasis on the sanction grid. Weak personality is a recipe for disaster, you must appear unapproachable in this early time, ensure you have the PTA standing with you. Speak less, act more. For that security that talked back, ensure he is suspended/sacked. You must make people pay for their indiscretion. Gradually bring in new team that will be overly loyal to you. Every other person will fall into shape. Enough said |

First of all welcome to management, now it is a combination of power play and politics .you must never allow emotions.what you need to do is assess the importance of the old staff, draw out the plan on how to counter the effect of there sacking eg knowing your pupils parents, and getting people to understudy them.then sack them all, anybody who isnt loyal to you must go.at the top loyality trumps even efficency.but when it come to business your loyalist must be close to you and the efficent report to your loyalist.you become a master once you have gotten the efficent to be loyal. Or in the short term fire the most powerful of them all and watch the weak run to pleadge loyalty, but do not get carried away with there fake loyality. Jokerman: |

Jokerman:Even if the thread gets to seven hundred pages, I will drop my own piece on this issue. Don't lie to yourself and just be the person you're. They will test you and want to bend you but with time they will realise that, change is here and has come to stay. Don't worry, they will adjust to the new changes. Stop listing to hearsay. Set out what you want for the school and discuss with professional educationists. If you can afford to pay, hire a new head teacher who is a professional and that share same view with you as regards to way forward. From the way you compose your English, you can't win the fight alone. Be more professional and don't try to impress your family or yourself. |

Jokerman:Retrench all of them. Give them gratuity equivalent to their salary for 2 or 3months. Conduct a fresh thorough recruitment exercise. Tell your present teachers to reapply if they're still interested in the job. You can reemploy like 2 or 3 from them. Return sanity to the system. After 2years, appoint a headteacher, give him or her targets. Constitute a board too to oversee the affairs of the management from outside. You just be getting quarterly reports and open an anonymous online feedback portal for the staff of the school |
