EPISODE FIVE

The park was busy; parents, children and lovers were having a nice time with each other and their pets.

A little white girl ran past me chasing after her kite. An Italian man and his three year old son were playing throw and catch with a base ball. There were some black men sitting alone, I couldn't tell which was Mike. My phone rang. It was Aunty Esther.

Aunty Esther has been a very cool friend of the family since immemorial. She always brought me expensive presents especially on my birthdays.

At age seven she got me my first Rolex watch. At age 12, i was the first of my peers be receiving monthly allowance of two grand. Grandma hated it, she would yell and yell saying they were spoiling me, but my numerous uncles and aunties kept spoiling embarrassing me with gifts. I could remember her gifting me a Honda civic during my graduation from high school. I love her. A very sexy single aunty she is. To be frank, I'm really crushing on her. I smiled and replaced my phone in my pocket then continued my search. I scanned the place for any stranded looking guy. There were three black guys looking as though they were waiting for someone. One sat on a cemented chair, the other was under a flower tree a little farther from where I was and the third was strolling across the field looking around.

I wanted to move closer to them so as to hear their thoughts, but didn't want Mike to know I didn't know him facially, so I stylishly brought out my phone and dialed his number. It was ringing, non of the guys made any attempt to pick it up. Then the phone connected.

" sorry, I'm on my way". Mike said.

" okay, how long should I wait?",

" give me five minutes"

" right". I said and hung up.

In five minutes time, any black guy who walks into this park is who I'm looking for. So I took a seat with a young white couple drinking chapman from a cup with a straw.

A black man in black outfit and black face cap with a red star in front of it walked towards us hanging a blue bag across his chest. He didn't bother to acknowledge we were there before he sat beside me. He seem worried and tensed. His thought caught my attention.

Man: Where the fvck is he? Blue shirt and black pants. Non fits the description. I hate jobs without pictures, it makes things difficult. Just as I mistakenly killed a wrong lady last week. Anyways, she will die some day. This place is very busy today. Hit and move. Nobody will know, the silencer is world class ( he smiled and looked around cautiously).

I was shocked and scared. Could he be an assassin?

Just then a black man in his late twenties in blue t.shirt on a black shorts strolled into the park brought out his phone and he seem to be dialing.

Man: Could this be him? Damn it! Why didn't he give me a picture? He said a black man, blue and black. This guy fits the description. I must move! ( he stood up walking slowly and pretentiously towards the man)

I was confused. I needed to do something, but was scared.

Then my phone ran, it was Mike calling. I quickly picked up the phone and saw the guy in black and blue out fit talking with the phone on his ear. I immediately said to him without listening to what he was saying.

" get the hell out of here! A guy in black is coming for you!". I stood up and followed the guy from behind.

" what? Who is coming for me? You called me! Where the fvck are you?". Mike said still looking around.

" get out of here! An assassin is coming for you!".

" a what?".

I saw the guy dipping his hand into his bag and raising it towards Mike.

Oh shit! I need to act fast!

I ran to the man and grabbed the his hands from behind. Everyone stood looking at us.

" he has a gun! He has a gun!". I screamed struggling with the man who seem too powerful.

Man: Who's this? Get off my!

To my surprise everyone started running away from me. The man gave me a head butt on my nose with the back of his head, I saw stars but didn't let go. I buried my head on his back and tightened my grip.

" somebody help me! He has a gun!". I screamed louder.

Man: I'm going to kill this fool! Get off me fool!

The man pulled himself down wards forcefully and i rolled over through his head and fell in front of him and held on to the bag. He pulled himself free and began dragging the bag with me. I refused to let go. I was scared he would shoot me if I left the bag. I also felt he would likely stab me any second or shoot me with his other gun, but yet, i didn't let go.

Man: Let go! I'll kill this fool I swear it! Let go!

A blinding kick landed on my face twice, I didn't know when he pulled the bag From me and was about taking off, I grabbed his leg and he fell. Climbed on top of him punching as hard as I could. He pushed me off him and tried to pull the bag, but i held on to it screaming. This time breathlessly.

" he has a gun! He has a gun!".

He looked around. A cop was approaching, then he left the bag and ran off.

The cop approached me and asked. " are you okay?".

" he has a gun!". I said lifting up the bag.

The cop took the bag from me and opened it. He slowly nodded and said to me. " how did you know?".

Cop: How did he know?

I slowly stood to my feet thinking of how to hide my ability while catching my breath.

" I... Caught a glimpse of it".

Cop: What a brave young man. That was stupid though.

" next time Inform the authorities, don't go off being a hero". The cop said. And brought out his radio. "we have a situation here. A 9 millimetre gun with a silencer found.".

I looked around for Mike and left the cop. Mike stood a distance away looking at me. I wanted to go to him, but the cop stopped me and said.

" I need to ask you some questions sir".

I nodded and said to the cop. "I'm around, just want to see that guy". Pointing at Mike.

The cop nodded. " don't go far".

I turned and walked up to Mike. He was looking confusingly at me. The crowd were all gazing at me whispering amongst themselves.

Mike: Was he the guy calling me? I don't know him.

" good day mike. I'm Gabriel, I called you earlier".

Mike: He's the one. How did he know that guy got a gun?

" I don't think I have seen this face before". Mike said extending a handshake. " how did you know he has a gun?".

We shook hands and i replied. " I saw a glimpse of the gun when he was coming after you".

" how did he know I was coming here? I didn't tell one I was coming here? And why would he want to kill me?". Mike asked looking at me with worries in his eyes.

I was about replying him when a white man in blue sleeve top on a black jeans walked in with a slim model like girl.

This could be the man's target.

Mike followed my gaze and asked. " you know them?".

" no! Thought she looks familiar".

He smiled and said more relaxed. " thank you for saving my life! You were brave out there".

Mike: And handsome too. ( smiling at me)

I smiled and went straight to the point .

" about Anthony". I said.

He nodded attentively.

" he is loosing it. He literally threatens and fights everyone since you left".

" is he okay?". Mike asked.

" I don't know for how long". I said.

Mike was looking at my face.

Mike: He's got a swollen.

I immediately felt beside my left eye where the man kicked and noticed a little bump and continued with what was important to me.

" I know you are no longer interested in him, but I heard something bad...". I pretended to be hesitating.

" what is it?". He asked curiously.

The cop came behind me and said. " I'll need your statement and description of that man".

I turned to the cop and said Impatiently. " a minute please".

The cop nodded. " two minutes please".

I turned back to Mike whose thought has been boring holes in my ears.

Mike: What did you hear? Hope it's not STD he got? I can't deal with HIV. Did he attempt suicide? Come on tell me I cant wait!

" what did you hear?". Mike asked keenly.

I heaved. " it's a secret, promise you won't tell him coz he may not like that I told you".

" I promise!". Mike said hastily with his eyes boring holes through me.

I looked up into the sky and then to Mike. " I can't". I heaved and shrugged. " Just call him, you'll avert the worse from happening. Call him now before it's too late".

He looked at me, hesitated then took out his phone.

Mike: I don't even know why I'm doing this.

He placed the phone on his ear looking at me. Then he said. " hello.... Where are you.... I hope you're fine?"

I looked at him and told him to mention me to Another. Then i remembered I had gave Mike a wrong name. I abruptly waved him not to mention my name again.

Mike kept looking at me puzzlingly.

Mike: what is wrong with him? Why is he all worked up?

" yes, I'm in town. I'll like to see you... Evening is okay. Alright, bye".

He hung up and turned to me. " what were you trying to tell me?".

"never mind". I said, feeling embraced.

" hey!" The cop shouted. " I ain't gat much time to waste!"

" I'm sorry, I'll join you soon". I said impatiently and turned to Mike. " actually, my other name is Mike also".

Mike looked at me and smiled." wow! Nice to know"

Mike: Mikes are handsome people.

" I would like you to tell him you met with me, I mean Mike". I said and slowly turned to the cop waiting for me. " don't forget please!". I added behind my shoulder as I strolled to meet the cop.

" I won't. And thanks for saving my life. I owe you Mike!". Mike shouted.

The cop took my statement and I was back in my car. Something kept pricking me like I made a mess of it all. I sighed and remembered I had to visit aunty Esther. I engaged the engine and was about navigating into the road when someone entered my back seat and placed a knife beside my neck.

" don't act smart". An airy voice said.

The strange man: If he makes any move I'll kill him. Just stay cool.

I was completely perplexed. All my body stood still. I looked at my rear mirror and saw the same black cap with a red star in front the one the assassin wore.

" move the freaky car!". He whispered in my ears and snappily looked both sides.
