Amotekun: Atiku Indirectly Attacks Tinubu For His Silence by SweetJoystick(m): 2:25pm On Jan 21, 2020
Self Defence Is An International Human Right, Guaranteed By Article 51 of the UN Charter.

As a nation, our police, armed forces and paramilitary bodies have shown great gallantry, patriotism and dedication to duty. They are our first line of defence against enemies of our nation and saboteurs within our midst. I laud, value and acknowledge them, which is why I awarded scholarships and gave other support to the children of some of our fallen heroes.

Having said that, I must add that the reality on the ground in Nigeria today is that our armed and paramilitary forces are overstretched. To deny this is to put their lives at risk unpatriotically. This we must not do. They deserve better from us.

To say that we do not need the services of those who are patriotic enough to voluntarily put their lives at risk to ensure the protection of the lives and property of Nigerians is to deny the obvious.

I salute groups like the Civilian Joint Task Force in the North East, who provided and continue to provide an invaluable service to Nigeria and her people at great cost to themselves, both in human lives and in productive hours, for which they are not well remunerated. Without their selfless services, where would the war on terror be?

I also acknowledge and appreciate the work that hunters and vigilantes have done and are still doing to help boost security in states scattered across Nigeria, including in the North East and Zamfara, Jigawa and Taraba states, to mention a few. Not a few Nigerians are able to sleep with two eyes closed, because of the action of these bodies of dedicated and gallant countrymen.

Nigeria has crossed the rubicon and cannot go back. There is too much insecurity in the land and too much inefficiency from the Federal Government, leading to wanton and unnecessary loss of lives. It is easy to think that all is well when you are inside secure statehouses, but the reality is that the security situation is far from fine for the average Nigerian citizen.

In such circumstances, people have an inalienable God-given right to self-defence. This divine right, as long as it is limited to self-defence, cannot be declared illegal by man. Not by any stretch.

What I counsel is that the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary must wake up and smell the coffee. When they do, they will realise that people who have volunteered to provide the internal security that the government has not been able to provide, need encouragement, and more importantly, a legal framework and central support to make their dream of preserving the dignity of human life a reality. Internal security is not a call for secession, and we must abandon the paranoia that makes us see it as such. The might of the Nigerian state must quash all calls for secession, no exceptions!

But on the matter of internal security as a means of self-defence, I call on all and sundry to speak up. Yesterday was Martin Luther King Junior Day, and we remember that that great man said:

“The time is always right to do what is right.”

Such is the apparentness of the right to self-defence, including the right to combat terror, that it is guaranteed by international law, enshrined in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, of which Nigeria is a signatory.

Therefore, no human power has the authority to criminalise the protection of human life, and no human ambition is worth the failure to speak in support of the people in order to remain in favour with the oppressors of the people.

Most Nigerians don’t understand politics and how it’s played in Nigeria.

Why should Tinubu talk? Will his talk make any difference? What will be the main goal of his voicing out?

People with functioning brains should know Tinubu will be consulted by the SW governors before they can proceed and I’m quite sure in the background they are doing everything possible to make Amotekun successful.

However, politics is a crazy game and most of the guys shouting Tinubu should talk are his enemies. It’s very easy to use his words against him when the time comes as being an ethnic bigot. Tinubu is wise and he should remain silent in the press and work in the background to make Amotekun a success.

As Yorubas, there no need for all of us to be shouting at the same time, there should be the silent workers and the front men that do the speeches.

We Yorubas shouldn’t lose focus, this shouldn’t be a game of throwing banters and abusing people online. We should keep the eye on the target only without listening to ariwo oja!

Amotekun is here to stay!

, you should stop acting like you don't mind sacrificing the blood of your people to herdsmen because herdsmen are buhari's brothers or because of the stipend you get as an APC errand boy in benue state. The money isn't even enough to shave your bushy beard.

Stop acting as if your personal pocket is more important than the lives of your people.

Yes. The heading is misleading.

But I do not agree with you. Those in the know claim Tinubu is not down with Amotoekun.

Not because he doesn't like the idea, but because he is not in charge of it. His enemies like OPC, Afenifere, Fayemi and Akeredolu have highjacked it.

Tinubu played a big role in dividing the Yorubas with his counterfeit Awolowo personae in order to retire the likes of obj, osoba, onogoruwa, Late Ige, falae etc from Frontline politics.

Now same people have gathered together in the name of Amotoekun trying to stir the fragile dirty political waters with their confrontational stance to the central government all in the name oodua unity. A UNITY HE FOUGHT SO HARD TO BREAK WHEN HE BACKED THE FORMATION OF YCE to futher deepen his political hold on SW.

I understand your concern and you’re right to some extent. However, I am of the opinion that Tinubu supported this and there is no proof to say the contrary.

You are right about Afenifere and Tinubu enemies hijacking the network, but still I think that shouldn’t make any difference coz they are all Yoruba first!

Afenifere leader initially condemned Amotekun by saying they are not what we needed, he opined that state police would have been the best thing. They later fall into line when they see that majority of the Yorubas supported the network and I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t have condemned it a bit if they had been the pioneer of it.

Tinubu currently still hold some influence in the SW and the governors loyal to him wouldn’t have subscribed to Amotekun if he was against it. Remember this planning was initiated since last year and DAWN commission were the one that did the planning while all the SW governors supported with the necessary funding.

Although no one dare compare Awolowo to Tinubu coz Awo is far above Tinubu league. However without Tinubu currently, the Yorubas wouldn’t have had a bargaining power in politics at the center.

Tinubu is behaving like Pa Akintola of those days. Normally people like him will be seen as a sellout by conservatives, but I am of the opinion that we need someone like Tinubu in this current political scene of Nigeria.

Osinbajo do not need to say anything coz he is the Vice President. He is the Vice President of all Nigerians and he shouldn’t take sides in the media. These guys can do all this in the background and them coming to the media to give pronunciation about Amotekun might not sound logical.

My own grievances is directed at Oyetola, Sanwoolu, and Abiodun. They should lend their voices to this in the open and stop behaving like sissies.

Its not about compromising, its about having representative on both sides of the table for proper negotiation.. this is how to play National Politics, Obasanjo is doing the same

Atleast Osun, Ogun and Lagos contributed their fair share for vehicle purchase and recruitment, and since Makinde and Fayemi hope to politicalise it they still havent stopped their support in terms of pledge salaries and funding

Being the president of this country isn't so important. It's just to add to his CV, he wont be different from the presidents before him because the system/structure is flawed. If Amotekun will lead to disintegration, so be it!

What bargaining power? Politics in Nigeria rewards the politicians and his immediate family and friends. We need to look beyond little or marginal progress. Singapore had to break away from Indonesia to be the wonder of the world it is currently. I'm sure there were people in Singapore that will be shouting One Indonesia then but see what they've become. When a horse is dead, there is no need to keep flogging it. Nigeria is like a dead horse, time for ambitious people to restructure or disembark!

think bro, without presidential powers, if we fail in 2023, many people would pouce on Yorubas and the so called Amotekun would be victimised by the next fulani president especially if we dont have a vice president or a top legislative head
