VGIF still the same 11.43 while AMMF 8.3. You can check on your account online as a client

I thought both of them are mutual fund. Why is VGIF significantly higher than AMMF?

Or rather, my question should be, what is the main difference between the two?

In this hard interest rate times, little interest is better than losing all of ones capital due to wrong choice and greed . The funny part is that fraudulent people are ready to take advantage of this panic period to milk people dry of their hard earned investment savings. I agree, my risk appetite is small. MMF and other regulated investment windows follow economic realities and government policies of a country. Nothing just happens.

Incorrect. It's for Saturday and Sunday, that of Monday will enter later in the evening.
Rates are too poor now, 6.

Where then can someone invest and get reasonable interest.

Your capital is safe! Depending on the type of mutual fund. Whatever affects the under laying assets affects the fund. The major asset for MMF is TBills and right now the TBills rates are down across all tenors hence the MMF rates are going down. If you look closely to equity base fund the reverse is the case because right now the NSE is bullish since the year began.

So, what's the way forward? We should keep an eye on MMF for now or?

Good day people. Gurus in the house, how advisable is it to invest in the Stanbic IBTC Bond Fund especially as regards capital preservation and steady (albeit small) interest rate?

Transfer your money to the bank account details of the fund you are investing in following the instruction as shared by you.
Re: Mutual Funds by emmasoft(m): 12:38pm On Jan 22, 2020
Some factors that determine where you put your money:

Risk appetite: Most cases the higher the risk the higher the returns
Investment objective: what you intend to achieve could be immediate or futuristic
Experience and knowledge: in most cases determines your success or failure
Age: Most cases it’s advised to do less risky investment when getting older and vice versa.
Funds available for investment: This most times determine the type/form of investment you can do
Investment duration: Most cases the longer the higher the profit
Don’t forget there are always exceptions to the norms.

Forms of investment:
Real estates
Stocks
Mutual funds
Treasury bills
Bonds
Commercial papers
Bank deposits
Business
Training
NB: The primary aim of investment is to make profit. However, some of the factors and types of investment as stated above now determines the level of your profit/returns

In investment, beware of Greed and Fear.
Fear will stop you from making the money you ought to make
While greed will cause you to lose the money you already made.

Call Stambic IBTC Asset Management to obtain their MMF account, then proceed and make payment (for the planned investment amount) quoting the supplied e-account number as reference during the bank transfer.

I don't understand what's up with United Capital PLC.
I placed N1,000,000 in their bond fund just over a week ago.
Each time I check not one kobo accrued as interest.
Only for me to check this afternoon and almost N10,000 has been wiped from my account balance.
I thought my capital should be preserved in a bond fund.
I sent WhatsApp message to customer care. They read but are yet to respond.
I have been calling Customer care but no one is picking my call.
I also sent email, and I am still awaiting response.
Can't one do business with these people and hold them to their word?

The net asset value of the bond fund fluctuates from day-to-day. It's traded and marked to market. I'm not sure it pays interest until perhaps mid-year or year-end. Or whether they do at all. You have to find out when they pay interest. On the flip-side, it can rise beyond the price at which you bought it

It's unlike an MMF where the unit price is fixed at N100 and all the interest less fund expenses is paid out quarterly.

Thank you for the explanation.
But are you saying that my capital is not preserved?
Do you also suggest I pull my money to money market mutual fund

No, capital isn't. You can have gains and losses if the value of the underlying bonds rises or falls. I'm not sure if their bond fund pays interest or adds the interest to your NAV. Please find out.
I can't say which is better. If you can't stand a loss, maybe an MMF would be better. The low rates won't be here forever.

Perhaps Mr emmanuelewumi and emmasoft can proffer advice on this.

I will advise him to buy bonds of 3 to 5 years and hold this maturity. Interest rates will affect the prices of bonds. It is very rare for a bond bought in the primary market to lose price.
