Onne port will be far better, problems of Lagos port congestion are far too many like no Parking spaces for the trucks that carry cargoes to destination, so they park on the road.
There is a railroad from Aba to port Harcourt that will enhance easy evacuation of cargoes to Aba. All rivers government needs to do is to ensure the railroad is up and running
Railway belong to Federal govt.

Nigerian government knows what to do as to make other ports viable but they choose to be selfish and greedy to their graves

“Cargo freight from Europe to Lagos ports is higher than from Europe to the Eastern ports, but despite that, Lagos became the official port under the policy of cargo destination since Obasanjo government. The pressure on Lagos ports also led to the explosion and failure of support infrastructure. The limit of unfair policy regime and unfair market control is what we are experiencing now.”
This is what has been drawing back functionality in other ports.
Why make the already congested port the official destination rather than decentralize?

Onitsha is another example of a city that is groaning under the weight of decay and government neglect.

No doubt, they are all the same. But Lagos suppose to look the part, given its strategic position, how long it's been exposed to "civilization" and the kind of money that change hands there.

The way our cities look shows how we think as a people, we don't think like humans with functional brains that want to do things better for tge sake of improvements, innovations and the sheer pride of being supposed humans, not primates.

It is a shame and it makes me wonder what kind of systematic education are they offering in that part of the world because.there is no sign that anybody is that kind of world that is structureless, lawless and senseless.

How is this an Igbo issue?
Not entirely an Igbo thing.
If you knew what it takes to land a car from abroad and then get driver to drive it down to the eat at almost N60k, you will understand the joy here.
Bros, one can spend as much as N350k on just freight of a 20ft container from Lagos to the east and if there's an accident, the owner loses everything just like that.
If you knew how many eastern traders became poor out of road accident loses, you'll appreciate a river port at Osha or even a seaport at Onne.
Not just for Igbos, but other parts of the country

My friend I don't live in Lagos, and the reasons Igbo's move to Lagos to do business that much is the lack of functional sea ports in the east but all that is about the change now that ship companies are relocating to the east

Lekki Deep Seaport will decongest Apapa port, but it's going to be decongestant by another port in Lagos, not by any other port outside Lagos.

Lagos state saw this coming hence initiating another deep seaport to take care of that problem and also to service LFTZ and products from the massive Dangote refinery and fertilizer complex.

Btw, why won't shippers and ancillary services shift to the deepest, the largest deep seaport with the best and modern facilities in West Africa?

This is strictly business, not emotions and sentiments.

Lagos is still and shall remain the main Port of call in Nigeria and West Africa .

Even Badagry deep seaport is in the horizon.

The guy wrongly claimed that Obasanjo was in charge of Port-Harcourt which I debunked.

During 1969-1970, Obasanjo was the Commander of The (3rd Marine Commando)3rd Division of the Nigerian Army with Head-quarters in Port Harcourt.

Obasanjo was never in charge of Ports or the city.

Dedetwo:

Ports in Nigeria are never the charge of governor of a state. Federal government of Nigeria has always being in charge of Nigerian ports. Neither Obasanjo nor Diete-Spiff was in charge of the port in Igweocha.

Nigerians.. when ever you see an illiterate and incompetent relative or friend of a relative who does nothing but kiss butt-cheeks. please send them away with N300 Naira rather than giving them a job.. stop favouring incompetent illiterates otherwise they will use butt-cheek kissing and make thei rway to the top where they will hire fellow illiterates into similar positions and ruin Nigeria the way they have done till this day

Decongest the Lagos ports by dredging the others across the nation(Calabar, Onitsha, Warri), all the successive govts have consistently refused to do so because of economic, parochial & regional considerations

I keep wondering however why the south south state can not do this privately or at the NDDC level. This would explode the economic of the south south and south east

Lagos is still very much a slum. When i see Lagos on tv in this part world and sometimes, unfortunately with normal people, i do tend to wish the ground will open up and swallow me that I come from a world like that where common sense is not applicable in everyday life. The whole place looks like a piggery and people just go about there businesses like it is normal.

Yesterday there was a documentary on BBC 2 about the unsustainable increase of the world population and Lagos is one of the examples they use to show what happens when people breed without common sense

So True. Yesterday, I was watching a TV show with my sister. The show is called 90 days fiance. One of the individual in the show is a Yoruba living in Lagos. The camera crew pretty much follows him and his soon to be "wife" around and lord knows when they showed Lagos, I busted out laughing. I honestly couldn't imagine that's the Lagos Yorubas/Nigerians tout their horn on. The place is disgusting and a huge slum! I couldn't even imagine why anyone would rate that as a city. Last time I visited that area was years ago and based on the narratives and images on this forum, I assumed the place have gotten better but, my God Lagos has gotten 10x worse. When I compared it to even the slums of other nations that's been on the show, it's the worst. I was shocked. It shows what posted on this forum is never a reality. That place is too disgusting to be called a city, talkless a business center one. Just too disgusting..Idk what the fuss about it over there.
If Lagos is supposedly the best "city" in Nigeria, I actually feel extremely sorry for those living in Nigeria.

I now realize why the md's wife might have been murdered some few weeks ago but does it have any correlation with the decision to port to onne port Harcourt .

Cargo freight from Europe to Lagos ports is higher than from Europe to the Eastern ports, but despite that, Lagos became the official port under the policy of cargo destination since Obasanjo government. The pressure on Lagos ports also led to the explosion and failure of support infrastructure. The limit of unfair policy regime and unfair market control is what we are experiencing now.”

So unfair business policy of Obasanjo government is the reason why igbos have been flooding lagos, people will come online and still blame igbos for flooding Lagos when all the while it was Obasanjo that used unfair business policy to cause it

The question now is why Jonathan did not use the fair policy to make things better?
