But that's the truth now.

How many jobs does the government provides

Even when the Democrats were in power it was the middle class that was still paying for the higher and lower earners.

Job that can still be provided without the huge tax breaks.
The middle class has always funded the lower and higher class. That’s a good reason to not make it worse than it already is. Very soon there will be no middle class left

Are you sure about this? It could work both ways. Tax may reduce due to less EU freeloaders, or tax may also increase if EU professionals earning good wage leave the country.

North Korea? The rocket man might use you as a bargaining chip to obtain favour from the UK government grin

I strongly believe there will be tax cut.
UK carry eu wahala for head. So many freeloaders here all in the name of eu countries.
Them dey born anyhow and na so govt dey feed them.and their children if they come up with one useless excuse.
And if it happens, more vacancies, I even read it will affect housing too.
Folks who want to mortgage are lurking around to see if it will happen. House here is outrageous. I will use the money and build mansions in Nigeria, walai grin

Haaaa cheesy, north Korea or south is like naija to me o.

Yet some other first world countries have been managing to do this without killing off its middle class. We can do better honestly.

Their intentions are shady anyways and it’s not primarily about fear of capital flight.

sassysure:

They said una external debt is too much so middle class has to be taxed more grin
If u tax the rich more, they will run away from una country and every country fears capital flight so its kind of woeing them to stay and continue to grow the economy and also for those that 're away to come back.

It will not continue indefinitely.
That money is needed to strengthen the dollar more.
The competition is becoming aggressive.

Those tax breaks was given to help those companies avoid moving their Companies to Countries that have very low taxes. Most of those Companies laid-off workers when they needed to move out of the US. And as a result the availability for jobs was not as surplus it is now with the current tax break.

I have no idea how they cope. Interestingly they set up giant billboards in China advertising US and Canadian passports to future and expectants mothers.

Canada has been on their case for a while. There was a documentary about it just last week or so. Ironically, the member of parliament (Alice Wong) leading the campaign against birth tourism in Canada is a Chinese immigrants herself grin

If they are giving tax breaks, then they should give it to everyone. But no. Because that money has to come from somewhere. Unfortunately it’s not coming from Mr $$$ who definitely doesn’t need a 6th island. Or another mountain in the alpines.

It’s coming from my breaking back so that they will keep jobs in the country. Yet somehow, before his tax reform, the economy was growing fast and unemployment rate was drastically reducing. Why did anything have to change for the worse at that time?

Was there any justification at that time for it except to reward his republican billionaire friends?
And still they go to China to manufacture. Despite the tax breaks.

Greed can not be satisfied no matter what you do. With the way unbridled capitalism is going, They will keep taking from the middle class until there’s no middle class left. Only the poor and the ultra rich. Then either they kill off the poor to keep them subdued or the poor will eat them for sustenance.

Capital flight is the worst enemy of any administrator.

When companies move, people are laid off, it will still affect the economy negatively.

One of the problems with trickle down economics aka cutting tax for big businesses/the wealthy is that the government would still get that tax income from somewhere. This would likely be at the back of the working class. It's not uncommon to see a rise in school fees, property or council tax, longer wait times at the hospitals, reduction of wages of teachers/healthcare workers, decaying infrastructures and hospitals etc. So the middle class end up paying more for services.

Immediately you miss your period, just file fo visitor’s visa if you qualify and nothing is showing on your tummy yet. If you are given the visa, just leave even if you are only a few weeks or days pregnant, at POE they will stamp you in with the usual 6 months visa, at the 4th month of your stay file form I539 to extend your stay for another 6 months.

After you give birth make sure to visit the Whitehouse and take a picture with your baby there as a poke to their collective ignorance.

From responses here, Nigeria's "lower class" are elated by this development and why should they not be? The contract worker in your bank's branch will never get to give birth or sponsor his wife to do same in the US; the dude doing his ND has resigned his fate about such privilege; the lass who struggles to fend for herself never imagine doing same and lots more in Watt Market, Ladipo, Gboko, Offa etc. They are happy with this development because even when the law was there, they never benefitted. So is it now it has been restricted that they would be worried? Ta! The persons who are worried about this are your upper middle class in Lekki, VI, Maitama, Ikoyi, Ikeja GRA, PH GRA etc. who believe their children lose out of a powerful passport which confer on them unfettered access to some of the world's best institutions at affordable rates and ease of entry at different POE stations globally. It is the middle class families who are in Yaba, Surulere, Ibadan, PH etc. who are worried that since they cannot afford $1M for investor's visa or even that of countries in the Caribbean region ($100K+) citizenship by investment, the citizenship by birth can afford their children (not them as parents) same opportunities as those in Lekki and Co.

However, these elites and upper middle class folks are in the minority or are basically infinitesimal in the scheme of things as the vast majority of Nigerians are poor. Those in the lower strata of the society won't feel concerned for the Ikoyi folks because these Maitama individuals didn't and don't feel concerned for the struggles of persons in my first sentence pass through. Which brings to the reality that Nigeria has to be developed and only the upper/middle class individuals can push for such development. But then, these Yaba, Ewet Housing, Ikoyi folks will simply move to Canada, Mexico, Brazil and other countries that offer citizenship by birth. After all, when the UK stopped post school visa, they moved to Germany and currently Canada.

In summary, the vast vast majority of Nigerians will be ecstatic with this news because it doesn't affect them in anyway let alone negatively. Call it schadenfreude, you won't be wrong.

You got the words from my mouth. Absolutely amazing way to put it. God bless you man!!

Exactly. They keep giving them breaks with little to no regulations to make it worthwhile for the average citizens. This should be about us, shouldn’t it?

They should have a job quota that they are required to provide with each million or billion they get. What do they pay their employees to keep them living a decent lifestyle (I’m not talking minimum wage). What are their maternity and paternity leave requirements? Sick leave? Etc
Corporations are requiring their workers to do more and more with less and less even with all the money they are getting from govt. Workers are paying these exorbitant taxes to keep jobs in the country and also breaking their backs to maximize profit for the corporations without adequate staffing to make the job easy on the workers or the incentives that should come from the extra money they are getting in tax breaks.

For example, I work in a hospital. There’s a giant corporation buying up a lot of the hospitals in the country. They are giving this company so much monopoly it sickens me.
I moved from the west coast last year and encountered a different (actually worse grin) system where I am now.

What would you know though, this company has bought its way all the way up from the west coast hospitals in its wake and is now here . They have bought the new hospital that I’m working at. Hello old friend! When one company holds that much power, it’s bound to be abused no questions asked

We are not saying the same thing

Let me give you an instance
I'm a well travelled person, who have met people from different walls of life in different countries, and what I came to discover in Asia, especially Singapore and the rest (Malay/South Korea/Taiwan) is that they are not much different from us
I was shocked to learn some of the superstitions some of them still hold (about luck and all that, tho it's mostly the older class)

But the difference was that the poor, and unexposed and uneducated and backward ALLOWED those who have gone abroad to learn the skills and get the exposure, as well as well educated and exposed that were home grown to run ALL sectors of the economy, even government (God bless Lee Kwan Yew )

That way they enshrined and enthrone merit over the years in their system, and there was a turn around of things for the better of the country

Overtime, the others keyed into the programme and got on board
But merit has already been the norm and the culture

However, for black people, especially NIGERIA undecided

Its like Satan tied stupidity to the hearts of them

The unexposed, stupid, incompetent and barbaric insist they want to be in charge of the affairs of this country
They use their numbers to fill up every critical place in the economy, and stifle any one who dares bring change to the system
It is across board

From the fool in Aso Rock
To the defence chiefs sending our boys to die
To the goat who is finance minister
To the dead wood in our unis that claim to be prof
And the list is endless

How can you then fight for such a country?
When the people who are to fight WITH you are FIGHTING YOU

Look at how Buhari got to power
Oga all this story will not change the basic point I am making that the more Nigerians that keep running abroad and lamenting from afar instead of coming back and playing their own little part in improving the country, the more things are going to remain the same for us.

I am well travelled too and have two degrees from the U.K. were I lived for 7 years before returning willingly to Nigeria because no corrupt political establishment is going to turn me into refugee in another mans country. We will make it work here or we die here. It’s our country to defend.

Sowore you speak of left His comfortable life in the U.S to try and spark a revolution in Nigeria which led to his arrest and harassment by the government..what he did went a long way in reorienting and enlightening our youth. so did Kalu and many other activists. More and more foreign trained entrepreneurs I know are coming back to Nigeria to play their part in at least moving the private sector forward since government cannot help. These are the little gestures I am talking about that if we all play our little part then with time, things will improve. Instead of running to foreign countries then lamenting when those countries no longer want you.

We can’t keep waiting for some politician to save us. We have to make it happen ourselves.
