Good morning madam,

Please I recently got an Honda City 2007, it's my first car, I dont know the oil that has been used before but I noticed the oil has dropped below the guage point. And the car doesn't smoke.

The recommended oil i saw online is 5W40 and another place 5W30. Which do you advise is right and can I start using it immediately.

How long? Manufacturer says 5w30 but step up to 10w30 because of wear and tear and you don't know what was in there.

Since i got it last 2 weeks, and the oil has even dropped slightly but the engine is not smoking and mileage is 151k.

A friend says I should use Mobil 20w50.
Is he right?

Thanks for taking out time to reply

Hi, I'm in a similar situation. My car is shorting oil and smokes when u rev it.

I want to replace the piston rings and other necessary parts then i plan to start using the recommended 5w30.

Is this adviceable?. The car is a 2005 honda accord i4, had her for 9 years now.

Yes but make sure you get good standard rings or oversize rings you can file down and make sure you get USA valve seals.

At this stage, you'd only be wasting more money for the 5w30 oil.

Ok. Your reasons pls?

Your car shorting oil and smoking means the oil is sipping out from your rings and/or seals, so using a lighter oil now would only worsen the already bad situation. And 5w30 oil are much more expensive than the conventional motor oil.

going by your statement, what oil grade do you suggest i change to, after I make the needed piston rings and oil seals replacement on the car?

With no visible smoke, it is very likely that your engine does not have issues with the piston rings. Could be a bad pcv valve or an oil leak from a weak seal.

You could go with a 10w40 or 15w50 oil grade.

good day everyone. i have a troublesome one on my hands.
i drive a 2006 honda ridgeline (meticulously maintained) which recently started experiencing neutral drop out on the (less than a year) tokumbo transmission. This means the gear gets into neutral when i come to a stop or really slow down. It only revs and does nothing until its thrown to park or neutral, then it drives till another random time. This used to be once in a while till i decided to replace transmission fluid with genuine dw1 (the other oil i"ve used is Car quest's Type H ATF) and serviced the 2 switches. Instead of fixing the issue, it became worse. Now the transmission drops out into neutral at every stop.
Accompanied with these are a few other issues:
1. the drop-out is sometimes accompanied with rough idling and the car goes idle rpm hunting
2. my odometer was mysteriously rolled back from 250k plus to 220k plus suggesting a brain box malfunction
3. no CEL

Kindly advise sirs, are these issues connected or they are to be treated separately. Your advice/ guidance may save me thousands of Naira.
Have i lost my gear or will repairing make some sense, (how much does a BJFA or MJFA h5 transmission cost?)

Sounds like you need another gear.

Disengages on deceleration.
Probably revs before engaging.

A few questions,
1) how long after tokunbo swap did this start?
2) why did you drain the type H?
3) where did you get the dw-1?
4) what was the timing of the roll back?

There's a slim chance it is the low sprag clutch assembly but I hate to tell you the tokunbo was a lemon. You need a new one or maybe a rebuild.

About your odometer, you sure you're not looking at trip B? Maybe post a picture?

Good morning All
I just check the tire pressures of this newly delivered 09 accord with new tires, and found out that 3 of them are 48psi while one is at 42psi , both cold air at 7am(and my guage is very accurate).
Prior to this I drove it for the first two days and noticed the tires where noisy and bouncy.
I have reduced the psi to the recommended average of 35psi. Yet to test drive it again now

But my question is what is the effect of driving with such psi in a interstate journey of over 350km along northern roads? Are the tires not in anyway already affected?

Please check again with a digital tyre gauge. It is more accurate than that analog gauge on display.

Thanks for your feedback. I align with you about the tokumbo being a lemon. But we must move.

Answering your questions.
1) how long after tokunbo swap did this start?
About 8 months after

2) why did you drain the type H?
Vehicle had a wiring issue, car went into limp mode, it was smelling burnt after wiring was fixed, plus it was around 3000 +/- 200 miles due for service.

3) where did you get the dw-1?
From oyingbo (luvinhubby)

4) what was the timing of the roll back?
Roll back was noticed about a week ago. My wife has been using the truck recently, I noticed when I drove it that it was displaying a familiar mileage. And its same mileage on both trips A and B.

I'm confident your workshop can handle the rebuild, I'm just not confident about my pocket. If you would have me, I'd like to schedule an appointment.

Regards

Thanks for your time sir.

It disengages on deceleration. Though better when really worked up. It just revs and does nothing until you throw it into park or neutral and then into drive again.

Good day everyone, I drive an 08 Honda Accord V6, I recently gave my mechanic to scan the vehicle and fix it , because the Check engine light was on, after about 4 days with the vehicle he brought it back, and after i drove the car for about 3hrs the Check engine light came back, and just yesterday I noticed the car is also overheating, since I got the car, this is the first time its overheating, I'm just tired and confused, don't know what to do. Would appreciate some good advice here.

Good evening everyone here.
I drive a 2003 Honda Pilot. I've been having some problems with this vehicle for about 6 months now. It starts late after the engine is cold. When I continue trying to start it, it also makes a kind of screeching noise when rolling for like 5secs. After it eventually starts, the idling starts fluctuating and sometimes it goes off or sound changes during idling. I'll have to leave for at least 5mins idling before the it runs smoothly. I took it to my mechanic for scanning and it complained about a bad crank position sensor. The starting became okay after changing the crank position sensor only to start same thing after driving for about 1-2mths. This is the 3rd crank position sensor that has gone bad now. What could be the cause of it turning bad quickly?

Same car also have also spilling gear transmission oil when on a long distance but not seeing where it's spilling from. It has done this twice now.

During my last journey to Ogun state, when coming back, when decelerating from a top speed it'll just be jerking and and the D indicator light started flashing until I change to Neutral and then change to drive again before it moves but slowly but not the sharp movement it's supposed to make. I took it to my mechanic for scanning where it brought a code complaining about knock sensor and they cleared the code.

I just don't understand all these so I decided to seek a second opinion. Thank you in advance.

The good news, check your engine oil. That should take care of the first one.

The bad news, you need new catalytic converters. Let us hold hands and mourn because they are not cheap.

Thanks.
I however noticed something yesterday morning and this morning that driving from sangotedo was problematic (switching gears at every stop) but the problem seems to go away from around jakande. I drove to lekki and back to chevron yesterday morning without any drop. Today, I'm sure it was from around Chisco that I drove all the way to oyingbo wothout any drop.
This looks like its transmission temperature sensitive. What do you think sir?
