All they want is your money..trump is not interested in giving Nigerian visa into his country. Student visa, business visa, all these thing cost heavy money..atleast 1.5 million and above to get a USA visa now. USA isn't friendly anymore, they don't want us there. Look elsewhere.

Eiya, someone must have done you something. It hurts I know. But it's not entirely true. Information is power

This is where you are wrong. It affect students who intend to stay back in USA after studies on H1b visa.

H1b visa is a work sponsored visa which leads to residency (work based Green card).

What this mean is that no company in the USA will sponsor a H1b visa for any Nigerian again from Feb 21.

Every Nigerian student will now be required to go back to Thier country after completing OPT.

Hummmmmm deep. Is this true?

Tried to read some of it yesterday and it was vague so I left the news alone . If this is true. I wonder if it's only applicable to incoming student and not affecting students who are already there. It will be very unfair to those already there

If this is true then Nigerians shine your eyes. There no point schooling in USA especially if you are paying your hard earned money (hard truth)

please stop misinforming people...You have no idea about the student F1 visa that is still issued, how did you come up with 1.5 million. Seems you just came into the thread to spread misinformation probably after being denied

There are still assistantship and scholarships. What he means is that student with F1 visa won't be able to convert to H1b visa after schooling. It is a ban that might probably change after 2 years, 5 years etc...some are there for PhD or Masters so you can't be very sure what will be the situation after those years

Okay keep giving the USA embassy your life savings. Why encourage people to spend money in a place where they are not wanted?

I am more worried on the general effect of this ban on admissions. I wouldn't know if any adcom will still be willing to give acceptance and assistantships to Nigerians when they're not sure of their arrival.
Amidst all these, some people might still get lucky. It's so unfortunate how this can affect well meaning Nigerians.

The area is extremely gray.

Best bet is to get experience during opt and also learn French.

My thoughts anyways. Since F1 is temporary and by default, all F1 visa holder are expected to return to their home country in the first place, the h1b is a way to adjusting to residency (work based) and the visa is just like every regular residency/immigrant visa (K1, IR1, etc).

But according to rumors that I heard. Citizens of Countries who were part of the first ban in 2018 couldn't get work based visa as most of them went back home after graduation. I don't know how true is it sha.

I will research more about this and modify/update my post when I get a detailed information

I would like to study “special education” and for me to do that here in Germany I need to have advanced knowledge of German. That’s why I wanna try USA. I’m currently studying Literature. So language is basically the reason I wanna leave.

Exactly. The next plan of action is for Nigerian students (prospective and current) to obtain the education and work experience in the US and move to other countries. If I'm not mistaken, the period for applying for jobs after one's studies (STEM based) is three months? If so, then more of this article to come in few months: https://www.zikoko.com/money/naira-life/relocating-back-to-nigeria/

People can stay back after studies and look for jobs but you and I know that the purpose of you going to study there is to stay back and work and after that get a green card. With this new visa ban, it makes getting a green card impossible and let's be realistic, companies are the ones that sponsor your H1-B visa and with this ban, how many of them will be willing to sponsor knowing that there is no long term guarantee?.
Lightp:

Are you trying to say that people can no longer stay back in the US after graduating even if they get a permanent job?

Largely.

Would have said it doesn't matter two years ago but it matters a lot now. Your chances will be really low.

What is the implication of this restriction placed on Nigeria by the US for F1 Visa applicants in Nigeria? I hope this is not like saying 'your journey has come to an end'?

My village people finally caught up with me. embarassed

Suspension of entry for Immigrants, except as Special Immigrants whose eligibility is based on having provided assistance to the U.S. Government.

Whatever this vague statement means...I just hope they actually ban all of us. At least, our private jet owners n ministers will quickly fix d problem that directly affects them.

Personally, I feel this ban is 50percent to due to "compliance", d other 50percent is due to our romance with Russia and China.

Let me save my $85 application fee that I wanted to use to pay before today's deadline expires.

My people, the good God is fighting our battle...the elites...our senators, reps, ministers, Generals, private jetters are already restless, they will fix it except if the US is not telling the whole truth.

It doesn't affect them. They aren't immigrants, the tourist visa is unaffected.

Well, I am not an "immigrant" too if I go for their f1 visa...but it will still affect me in some ways.

All those dull reps or senators...u really think they know the difference between immigrants n non-immigrants? Besides, they have families too.

Actually, the cable carried a news as at last week that Nigeria was already working on the biometric thing. The ban won't last but it's still not good news anyways.

We also don't know how it will impact h1b visas...even tho that one too is a non immigrant visa.
