THE GREAT TRIBULATION RELATIVE TO TIME OF RAPTURE
Text: Revelation 7:13-17
13 And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they?

14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

15 Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them.

16 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat.

17 For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

Introduction
When it comes to the time of rapture relative to the great tribulation, there are 3 major schools of thought among Christians. They are listed below. But before I mention them, let me also state that the two words ‘Tribulations’ and ‘Great Tribulations are used inter-changeably by some Christians for the purpose of preaching.

This teaching is meant to explore from the bible, the correct time-relativeness of the great tribulation to the rapture or vice-versa.
It is almost impossible to teach or preach about rapture without making reference to the great tribulation.

Propositions for the Great Tribulation Relative to The Time of Rapture.
-1. Pre-Great-Tribulation Rapture:
This school of thought believes that the bride of Christ will not witness the great tribulation. It believes that the great tribulation will begin after the rapture of the saints. Such school also believes that during this period of seven years, the antichrist, also, will rule the world.

For this school of thought, the great tribulation and the rule of the antichrist begins simultaneously after the rapture. For them, the bride of Christ will not witness any of the great tribulation and the rule of the antichrist.

-2. Mid-Great-Tribulation Rapture:
This school of thought believes that the bride of Christ would witness a half of the seven year period of the rule of the antichrist before she is raptured. Since the rule of the antichrist is a seven year period, the school thus believes that the bride of Christ will witness half of antichrist’s reign before she is delivered.

-3. Pre-Wrath-Of-God Rapture:
This school of thought believes that the church would witness the early part of the great tribulation but would be raptured out of it before God begins to pour out His fierce wrath and anger upon those that miss the rapture.

For this school of thought, the great tribulation will have begun, then the rapture takes place, and then the seven year rule of the antichrist begins.

This invariably means that the great tribulation may last a little longer than the seven year rule of the antichrist. It even means further that the bride of Christ will witness a part of the great tribulation but will not witness the rule of the seven year rule of antichrist.
For me, I stand with this school of thought for obvious biblical reasons which I will mention after I have first Critiqued the first two schools of thoughts.

Critiquing the Pre-Great-Tribulation Rapture and The Mid-Great-Tribulation Rapture
-1. There may be no tangible bible scriptures that back up the pre-great-tribulation rapture. It is just generally believe that the bride of Christ should not witness the great tribulation.

-2. The believe for the mid-great-tribulation rapture is based on two lengths of time mentioned revelation 11:2-3; forty two months mentioned in verse 2, and a thousand two hundred and three score days mentioned in verse 3.

Although, each of these two periods is equal to three and a half year or half of a seven year period of the rule of the antichrist, there is nothing to suggest that the rapture will take place at the end of those times. Also there may be no scriptural backings for such positions.

Why I support the Pre-Wrath-of-God Rapture
As a sequence of the pre-wrath-of-God rapture, we have the following.

-1. Tribulation begins.

-2. The tribulation intensifies and becomes the great tribulation.

-3. Rapture takes place.

-4. God starts pouring His wrath upon the earth and those who miss the rapture.

Having mentioned the sequence above, now, let me mention the reasons why I stand with the pre-wrath rapture. This view states that the great tribulation will have begun before rapture takes place but not before God starts pouring out his wrath upon the earth.

The followings are the reasons.

-1. The Lord Jesus Christ said it was after tribulation that the rapture will take. Mathew 24:29-31
29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with and great glory.

31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

The disciples asked the Lord, Jesus Christ, the signs of His coming in verse 3 of the book of Mathew, chapter24. By verse 7, He started mentioning the events that will signify His coming, which include earthquakes, wars, pestilences, hatred and others. The summary of all these events is tribulation.

Whether this tribulation mentioned in verse 29 is the great tribulation or not, does not matter much. What matters is that the Lord Jesus said it was after the tribulation the bride of Christ will be rapture. And this invariably means that the bride of Christ will witness some sort of tribulation before the rapture.

These scriptures agree with points 1 and 3 of our sequence above.

-2. The Lord, Jesus Christ, inferred that the elects (the bride of Christ) will see part of the great tribulation. Mathew 24: 20-22,

Mathew 24: 20-22
20 But pray ye that your flight (rapture) be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:

21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.

From Mathew 24: 20-22, the Lord, Jesus Christ, inferred that the bride of Christ will see the great tribulation as depicted below.
-1. The Lord, Jesus Christ said there shall be great tribulation such as was not before and after it, verse 21.

This means that the tribulation which the earthquakes, wars, pestilences and the likes that he mentioned in Mathew 24:7 refer to will intensify to a higher degree and become the great tribulation.

-2. Perhaps because of the severity of the great tribulation, the Lord, Jesus Christ said if the days were not shortened no flesh (including the bride of Christ) shall be saved, verse 22a.

-3. The Lord, Jesus Christ then said because of the elects, the days shall be shortened, verse 22b.
The question we should ask is this. Why should the days be shortened because of the elects if they will not witness the days? And the answer is simple; the days were shortened as a form of protection for the elects to be able to withstand those few days of the great tribulation they will witness before the rapture.

While the days are shortened for the protection of the elects, the Lord asked them to pray for their flight (their rapture) because the shortening of days of the great tribulation that the elects will witness is just a temporary protection for them to cope with the great tribulation before they are eventually raptured. The rapture is their permanent escape from the great tribulation.

These explanations agree with points 1, 2 and 3 of our sequence above.

-3. Apostle Paul mentioned that the elects will enter the kingdom of God through much tribulation, Acts 14:22c

22 c. and that we must through much (great) tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

The adjective, much, can be replaced with another adjective, great. Both of them show or represent a higher intensity or higher degree of tribulation, and that is the great tribulation.

-4. The elects that Apostle John saw in heaven were raptured out of great tribulation, Revelation 7:9-14

9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;
………….
…………..
13 And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they?

14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

-5. Apostle Paul mentioned that the bride of Christ will not see the wrath of God.
1 Thessalonians 5:9
9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

Apostle Paul, while writing to us about rapture in 1 Thessalonians, chapter four, told us that the Lord we descend with a shout and the dead in Christ shall rise, first, and we that are alive shall be caught up with them.

He continued in chapter five by charging us to watch and be sober so that they can make the rapture because God had not appointed us unto wrath. It can thus be inferred that making the rapture is the way God has provided for us to escape the wrath of God coming upon the earth.

-6. Other scriptures tell us that the wrath of God is meant for the wicked, not the bride of Christ.

Example of such scriptures is Nahum 1:2 which states that God has reserved His wrath for his enemies. His enemies are those which have not repented from sins, not the bride of Christ. The bride of Christ is not appointed to wrath.

Nahum 1:2
2 God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.

-7. Wrath of God was not poured on Sodom and Gomorrah until Lot and his family left the city.

There was already much tribulation in Sodom and Gomorrah. There was homosexuality, reveling, street robbery, rape, sex orgy and violence in Sodom. However, the wrath of God was not poured on Sodom and Gomorrah until Lot left the city, genesis 19:22,24-25.

The Lord, Jesus Christ told us in Luke 17:28-30 that as it was in the days of Noah shall it be when he shall come. By this it can be inferred that the bride of Christ, like Lot, will witness tribulation but not the wrath of God.

-8. If all the terrorism, church bombings, kidnappings, earthquakes, flooding, mass shooting, Ebola, HIV, economic recessions, rape, suicides, sexual perversion and the rest we are witnessing do not qualify to be great tribulation, I wonder what else will qualify.

Summary
Through this teaching, it has been scripturally pointed out that the bride of Christ will witness the beginning of the great tribulation but will be raptured out of it. Then after the rapture, the great tribulation will enter into the phase of the seven year antichrist rule and the outpouring of the wrath of God upon the earth.

For the sake of the bride of Christ, the length of the days of the great tribulation that the bride of Christ will experience will be shortened for their protection and sustenance.

This is called the pre-wrath-of-God rapture and is the only stand-point-of-view of the great tribulation relative to the time of rapture that can be scripturally explained

Conclusion
It is possible to escape the wrath of God and the rule of terror of the antichrist through rapture by becoming the bride of Christ. This can be achieved by giving your life to Jesus Christ and preparing for his coming in absolute repentance and holiness. You can see the steps mentioned under the ‘to make the rapture’ below. You can also write for clarification of any of the steps.

Actions
Are you an elect of Christ? Are you truly saved? Are you on the narrow road? Do you want to make the rapture/heaven? If your answers are yes, then,
• Make all efforts to heed the warnings of Jesus Christ.

• Be watchful. Pay attention to what is happening around the World and see whether they match what the scriptures say.

• Be filled with the Holy Spirit and be in the Spirit all the time.

• Fast, consecrate yourself, run away from sin and worldliness.

If your answers are NO, then you can repent today. Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. Kindly sincerely and faithfully pray the prayer of repentance below and make a determination never to commit sin again.

Prayer Of Repentance
Lord, Jesus Christ, I am sorry for all my sins. I confess them with my mouth and I ask for mercy. Please forgive me and wash me in your blood. I accept you as my personal Lord and Saviour. Write my name in the book of life. Give me power over sins and fill me with your Spirit and Joy of Salvation. When rapture trumpet sounds, let me make it. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus name, I pray.

Begin to read bible. Begin with the book of John. Pray always. Fast regularly (you can begin with once in a week). Look for a bible believing church where they teach repentance, holiness, salvation and fellowship with them. Pray before you go. Always run away from SINS.

I know that God is not a God of confusion, but this stuff is way more confusing than it should be.
It’s almost as if the writers of the different books of the Bible had conflicting views about what would happen.

I wonder how the holy book which was supposedly from the perfect almighty would contain so many confusion and contradictions.

Imperfection cannot come from perfection.

God did not give the whole of His plans (revelation) to any single bible personality. That was why the bible was not written by any single person. He was giving them the revelation of His plans bit by bit to different people until the last book of the bible. We are the ones that will combine the pieces of the revelations and arrive at the whole plan of God.

Shalom.

Where did you get this seven years rule of Antichrist?

You tried in ur understanding, only that it was long. I agree that there is no basis for this belief that the saints will go to heaven before the great tribulation.

Daniel talked about it. He called it one week; one day for a year

Until the Temple is rebuilt in Jerusalem, forget all this rapture and second coming talks.

There has to be a temple in Jerusalem that’ll be defiled as written in the book of Revelation.

This desecration happened before (Anthiocus Epiphanes slaughtered a pig on the altar in the conquest of Jerusalem). This defilement shall repeat itself at the time of the end.

Now, the interesting bits though, things are falling in place gradually for the construction of the third Jewish temple.

There will not be a great tribulation (global persecution of Christians) anytime soon because Christianity is the most popular religion in the world. Christians are in a better position to be persecutors than the persecuted today. Persecution happens to minorities and the powerless; Christians are numerous and powerful.

There will be a great tribulation. If you are alive then, you will see it with your two eyes. It has nothing to do with popularity but everything to do with divine agenda laid down in the scriptures. Everything the Bible says about The kingdoms of the world up until the time of Jesus Christ(in relation to the Jewish History) has happened precisely. From the time of Christ(using a lunar calendar not a solar one) the 2000years before the last seven years of the great tribulation has run out. We are living on borrowed time. Whether you believe it or not does not mean a single thing. Intellectualism, politics, money, nothing will matter. Only two things will matter: do you believe in Jesus Christ or do you serve the Anti Christ?

The great tribulation has not started. If you read that same Book of Daniel very well you will know this. The Jews will erect another temple first and the Antichrist will sign a peace treaty with Israel that will be broken after three and a half years.

Besides, there is yet one great revival that will happen before these events. One final surge of the Spirit of God that will cause the power of God to sweep through the world. We are at the verge of that revival.

What we have currently are signs of the end of days, and persecutions of Christians. The Bible says the great tribulation will be so horrible that "there will be no time ever like it nor will there be any like it upon the face of the earth"

I don't agree to this Muslims and non Muslims have been persecuting Christians long time ago and Christians have never for once retaliated.

You are right and wrong. Many Christians are actually no Christians but Judas in the Body of Christ. They will manifest when this tribulation heats up and will be separated from the Body. Then you will know what true Christianity looks like and that TRUE CHRISTIANS are actually in the minority

What we have currently are signs of the end of days, and persecutions of Christians. The Bible says the great tribulation will be so horrible that "there will be no time ever like it nor will there be any like it upon the face of the earth"

What you need to know is that Christians, over the years, have erroneously thought that the great tribulation is going to be for 7 years. I don't think there is anywhere in the bible where that was said. I stand to be corrected. What the bible is very clear about is that the antichrist will rule for seven years. And may be that is where the thought that great tribulation will be 7 years come from.

Now, consider the scripture below

Revelation
9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;

10 And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.

11 And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God,

12 Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.

13 And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they?

14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

John, the beloved, saw people from different parts of the world, who made the rapture, in heaven. And John was told that these people came out of great tribulation to heaven.

This statement clearly makes us to know that these people witnessed the great tribulation before they were raptured to heaven. For how long they witnessed the great tribulation we don't know but they witnessed it. After the rapture the great tribulation develops into the wrath of God and reign of antichrist. This we are clearly told will last for 7 years.

The scripture and explanation above agree with the underlined part of the scriptures below

Acts 14:22
22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much (great) tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

I Thessalonians 5:9
9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

While the first scripture says it is through the great tribulation we will enter the kingdom of God, the second says we will not see the wrath of God.

Hello,

No where in my post did I say or imply that the tribulation will be for seven years. While you are right that the Antichrist will rule for seven years, you have used some scriptures wrongly to buttress your point concerning tribulation as a whole. I am afraid, your response did not really address my post.

My initial post was in response to your assertion that "the tribulation has started". While we are admonished to watch and pray, we should also be careful of falling into error and using scriptures to fit our narratives.

Let me reiterate, the tribulation has not started. Study your bible very well and other teachers on this topic. Certain things MUST happen before the time of trouble that Jesus Christ talked about.

Shalom.

9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;
………….

Conclusion

Lol...the tribulation is far from occurring. Tribulation means Christians will be hidden in their homes and will be scared to come out, they will not have the effrontery to move about preaching. They will be hated and persecuted(we see the likes of DEPS,ADEBOYE,KUMUYI,SULEIMAN) being praised and celebrated across the globes.

Seun:
There will not be a great tribulation (global persecution of Christians) anytime soon because Christianity is the most popular religion in the world. Christians are more likely to be persecutors than the persecuted today. Persecution happens to minorities and the powerless; Christians are numerous and powerful.

Before I tell you how it will happen, read the prophecy Revelation 20:4
4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

First, 25 egyptian Coptic Christians were beheaded by the footsoldiers of the beast in Libya being Christians, not for committing any crime in agreement with the scripture above.

Another Christian, a Christian Association of Nigeria Chairman was gruesomely beheaded in Nigeria.

Many others are also being beheaded by the footsoldiers all around the world - a water testing exercise.

The question you should ask is ‘why beheading?’ and for what crime? Are there no other way of killing apart from beheading?
If God had prophesied thousands year ago that Christians will be beheaded for just following Christ and is happening now then the rest will be fulfilled.

Now, let me tell you how the persecution will be achieved.
The bible says that the antichrist is very wise; in fact wiser than Prophet Daniel. Immediately after the rapture, He will hijack the whole economic system and make the whole world go cashless with the introduction of implantable chip to replace all smart electronic cards. The plan is on-going already.

Now considering the state and condition of the church, many Christians will likely miss the rapture. And the antichrist will step in immediately as the world leader. He will make a law across the world that no man buys or sells except through the chip. All banks accounts will be frozen until the owner receives the chip. In fact not receiving the chip will be criminalized. GPS will be used to track people. Many left-behind Christians will collect the mark to be able to buy. The others will reject and be persecuted and beheaded.

Read the bible.

So, if all the beheading of believers, bombing of churches, ebola, coronavirus, distress and earthquakes don't qualify for tribulation, what are they? merry making?

25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;

26 Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

Signs in the sun, moon and stars, wars, distress of nations are not peculiar to christians

Tribulation = 3 1/2 years (dragon reigns on earth, the Woman gave birth to a Man child and she is persecuted and her children sorted after, God's prophets spoke God's word worldwide, the beginning of sorrows for the world - cosmic disturbances, earthquakes, wars, diseases and pestilence and death )

Great Tribulation = 3 1/2 years (Beast reigns on earth, Mark of the Beast, God's people and prophets are martyred worldwide(God's people is the third temple the beast wanted to reign in and destroy) for 3 1/2 days - symbolic of 3 1/2 years).

Day of the Lord = 1 year... The 8th year, a (Wrath of Lamb and Christ Authority Manifest on Earth, Christ Rapture and RESSURECT ALL SAINTS (some days into the 8th year day of the Lord (according to last chapter of Daniel) and destroys all previous Kingdoms on earth with the MOST DEADLY FORCES OF NATURE - Like Noah's flood)

Millennium = 1000 years (Christ and Resurrected Saints Reign on Earth)

I know that God is not a God of confusion, but this stuff is way more confusing than it should be.
It’s almost as if the writers of the different books of the Bible had conflicting views about what would happen.
It's confusing because the devil is the author of confusion, He confused eve and tried to do the same to Jesus by giving a wrong interpretation to God's word and that's exactly what devil's servants do.

Na wa, where I'm scripture did you discover all this abeg

What you need to know is that Christians, over the years, have erroneously thought that the great tribulation is going to be for 7 years. I don't think there is anywhere in the bible where that was said. I stand to be corrected. [s]What the bible is very clear about is that the antichrist will rule for seven years.[/s] And may be that is where the thought that great tribulation will be 7 years come from.

Now, consider the scripture below

Revelation
9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;

Please oh, I don't disagree with the believers will face tribulations but where in scripture did u get the and the Antichrist will rule 7years
