It doesn’t have to be a clap back. It is more like an admonition. The endemic of broke females setting standards they themselves cannot afford is, to put it nicely, nauseating.

Some years ago, I realised many women class themselves based on the pockets of their boyfriends and husbands. Women who date rich guys feel superior to the rest. That’s why they are more likely to remain in their relationships even when things get toxic and abusive. It’s obviously not because they are more forgiving than the Pope. The pecking order must be maintained.

A young marketer once grumbled in my hearing about a rude colleague of his. He said she was feeling too big because she had an iPhone X which was obviously bought by her boyfriend as they could never afford it considering their salaries. I wanted to correct him but I realised he told the stark, unadorned truth. The babe would probably take her expensive wig and phone and travel across the state to the suburbs where she lived with her struggling family and probably drag change with the conductor.


Women should exercise this so-called strength they talk about. Work for your money if you want to measure up. Your relationship is not a poverty alleviation scheme. You are not to be respected just because of your gender. You will either earn it or settle for being the trophy of a man.
