smiley Of course justice was served, that's karma for you. You play with fire you get burned, that's the message it was trying to pass.

I admit, I was very shocked when that happened, I didn't expect it, but to be fair, the film wouldn't be as regarded if it had done one of those generic everyone is happy at the end. That ending is what will make the picture more lasting.

But that ending was fvcking sad. angry The fat ass chick did come out on top tho, so... cool

when i watch films based on history, i want to feel what the main characters are feeling....

i want it to tug on my heart strings...

i want to be emotionally invested...

the only way i can digest everything is if i am convinced of the story's genuinity.

i connected with PRIVATE RYAN (1998), THE THIN RED LINE (1998), 1917 (2019), DUNKIRK (2017), BRAVEHEART (1996) & WE'RE SOLDIERS (2002). they all have hearts.

i couldn't connect with MIDWAY (2019). i couldn't connect with the story or the characters.

biographical films ought to be more than just action scenes. the emotive aspect of it is far more important.

MIDWAY sacrificed the emotive for action scenes, thereby killing the soul of the film.

in short, MIDWAY was a forgettable experience, a waste of 800mb.

Lol you burn 800mb for that film? Kikiki.... Na Joker I spend that kind of MB for last and one Chinese Military Aviation movie cos no 480p version. grin

Midway na just visual splurge and Action. The ONLY endearing character in that film na "BEST D!CK" played by Ed Skrein. And the eagerness to see how Battleships, Destroyers and Carriers looked like then.

Too bad Japan is now a shadow of itself back then Militarily, although partly because of their Pacifist ideology after the War. Funny thing is they could easily measure up to those heights if they really wanted to, with their massive technological might.

Funny thing about history: now they are being bullied by China, an enemy it pummeled to Near-death that time. China really learnt a huge lesson back then, saying to THEMSELVES— "NEVER AGAIN". grin

It was not fair what America did to them, but then again when I read about the horrors committed by Japanese soldiers against the Chinese, I say good for them

At your last paragraph, It is all well and good till shiit hits the home front.

You support the murder of 250,000+ Japanese civilians because of the atrocities committed by their military.

Whatever happened to rules of engagement?

So because Buhari and his military cohorts are committing war crimes, you will leave Aso Rock and go and drop atomic bomb on Rivers and Benue state.

Why not bomb the Emperor's Palace?

Nuking Japan wasn't even to make them surrender because they would have surrendered anyway, it was to prove a point to the Soviet Union hence the start of the Cold War.

I never claim to support the nuking of Japan, IMO it was absolutely not necessary but Hiroshima was targeted because it was an industrial city and there’s no war without casualty. To minimize the number of civilian death, fliers were sent from airplanes warning the civilians to vacate the city

Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by Nobody: 9:26pm On Feb 17, 2020
History is written by the Victors and USA will definitely tweak the narrative to justify the use of the A-bomb.

What really happened was Japan was ready to surrender provided they are allowed to do so with "minimum loss of face".

Only stumbling block was that USA wanted post war Japan to eradicate their Monarch style of governance which Japan wasn't ready to do because it will go against everything they stand for.

Guess what?
After nuking Japan and accepting their surrender.
Japan was still allowed to retain its monarch.

Japan wasn't nuked because of surrender, it was nuked to make a statement to Soviet Union who was already expanding its territories in Eastern Europe and is becoming a threat to the US.

Virtually all US major top military officers active during the WWII were against the use of the A-bomb because Japan was already overwhelmed by conventional bombs, why bring in the big boy?

They used the bomb to kill two birds, a Third World War won’t look good at all

Holding a nuclear weapon in 2020 to me is like holding a luxurious toy.
Why?

You have your own nuclear weapons, I have my own.

You fire, I fire.
You win and wipe me off the face of the earth and you will have radiation to deal with all the days of your life.

At the end of the day, nobody really wins.

Nuclear power is simply a deterrent, we will probably never witness its use in a war again unless those yeye terrorists can lay their hands on one (which I pray never happens)

Mutual Assured Destruction, to think that the world was almost at the brink of a nuclear war at a time send shivers down my spine

My 2020 Top 10 Fated/potential Blockbuster Movie FLOPS ................................what's yours??
[s]Sonic: The Hedgehog..... (Paramount)
Just seems Fated to flop, even moreso after it's extra expenses in redesign of Sonic after fans backlash on an estimated $90mn production budget.[/s]

Bloodshot....... (Sony)
This looks like an outright FLOP from the Valiant Comics adaptation. Nothing spectacular to draw general public in. Not even Vin Diesel can save it.

The New Mutants ......(Fox/Disney)
This one is a Bloody FLOP with it's numerous change in release dates (4 times)— something we could have seen since 2018! Disney seems Fated to continue losing on this Fox buyout for a while.

Artemis Fowl ....... (Disney)
Looking like a potential FLOP.

[s]Fantasy Island ........ (Sony)
Potential FLOP.[/s]

Ghostbusters: Afterlife ...... (Paramount)
Outright FLOP in the making!

Monster Hunter ....... (Sony Screen Gems)
Gonna FLOP. Game adaptations for live action movie have a history of not doing too well at the box office. Even the Director of this movie have a not so glamorous game adaptation history. Although things might be different for Sony's December "Uncharted" movie starring Tom Holland.

Coming To America 2 ......... (Paramount)
Possesses some potential FLOP vibes, coming after 32 years for a sequel! And Eddie Murphy's lost his box office mojo/clout.

GI Joe: Ever Vigilant .......(Paramount)

Possesses outright FLOP vibes.

Dune .......... (Warner Bros.)
Potential FLOP especially since the first live action adaptation was a Flop. I'm hard pressed to include this in my LIST. I honestly don't see it as an outright flop but maybe a lesser disappointment cause of it's Killer CAST. That CAST alone is "Butt in Seats" guaranteed, also Denis Villeneuve has some critical pedigree. Even the release date pushed to December holidays makes it a likely HIT, with slight competition in a season with no Star Wars or clear Box office Juggernaut except The Croods 2.

PS: I just feel this is the most likely WB blockbuster movie to be a FLOP— even a better candidate Flop than Kong vs Godzilla. I just included it to make it more Transparent, objective and seemingly Unbiased.

** Seems Universal escaped...hmmm. it's looking like a super duper YEAR for Universal. IMHO. OOH I FORGOT DOLITTLE, it's out already and a FLOP TOO.

2 failed predictions, 8 to go. grin grin

IP man4 - 9.5/10

This was a perfect ending to the Ipman legacy.

The guy they cast as Bruce Lee was perfect, the fighting scenes were perfect, touching storyline which was perfect as you learn a lot from it.

Most importantly, my boy Scot Adkins did me proud. He acted his part perfectly.

Overall, a must watch movie

FANTASY ISLAND was a feature film of 7 million USD.

it was projected to gross at least a minimum of 13 million & maximum of 20 million in 4 days...

it grossed 14 million in 4th day of release, exceeding the minimum projection...

today is the 5th day of release, and guess what, it has grossed 21.6 million USD.

numbers don't lie.

it's already making profit and exceeding expectations.
